Yep. Your photo really captured a good bit of the clutter under the newer version of the PPH tree.
And, for the record, I realize that most people who have never seen the PPH tree in person before will have no problem with the tree in its current state. You will be struck by the gorgeous, stunning, warm blue-green lights and those are what will stick out. Those lights are what roped all of us in when the tree was a simpler tree.
This is what the tree looked like in
December 2010 -- and even though the colored lights were in full effect, you can't tell in these 2 photos (which was my fault!). But you can see the topper on the tree was the sun, a prominent symbol at the PPH. The ornaments were classy and elegant. The presents under the PPH tree were made of the same material that the presents under the GCH tree are made of -- some kind of cloth, maybe? I'm not sure what it is.
In 2011, I think the presents under the PPH tree changed to hard, shiny presents. They were no longer made of various fabrics and ribbons.
This photo is from
December 2012, and you can see the new, shiny presents. (The sun topper on the tree was still there, and the ornaments were still elegant.)
And then, in
2013, the new version of the PPH tree appeared. Thank the heavens the colored lights remained but everything else changed. Large seashells and surfboards surrounded the tree. Presents with various sea-themed designs on them rested below the branches. Ornaments consisting of shells, seahorses, starfish and orange sea grass/garland suddenly dangled from the branches. I think there was even some "prop sand" stuck in there somewhere.
And good ol' Mr. Sun, who used to top the tree, was replaced by a shimmery starfish. Visually, to me, the length/height of the PPH tree was cut down a bit by all of the clunky clutter -- but it may not seem that way to anyone else...
Gotta love this charming new fish ornament
