Paradise Pier Superthread

We stayed at PPH back in February for the first time and we really enjoyed the hotel. They knew it was our anniversary because I was wearing my button from the previous year when we checked in and they spread rose petals all over our bed that spelled out "LOVE" while we were over at Steakhouse 55 having dinner. We had really great service there, tbh, and I would stay there if I wanted to splurge again.

What is the somewhat unknown shortcut through GCH that brings you out onto DTD in a door you can exit, but can't enter back in? I know I have seen a map somewhere, but can't find it now!

This is a thread for PPH, I think you would have better luck finding the answer to this question over in the GCH thread....:)

Thx, tried that too, finally found my answer. We are staying at PPH & are looking for the quickest route to the parks. :thumbsup2

We are booked for Dec. 9-13 at PPH. This is our first trip to DLR. I have a standard view room for now. I hope to upgrade to a theme view. What is the best room for a standard view? A theme room view?

I was waiting to see if anyone else replied, but no one has so far so I will chime in.

I've had standard view rooms at the PPH that either included what seemed to be a view of a parking lot or a view of the pool. I preferred the pool view room. I believe it was a 5th floor room that I had.

Of the DCA park view rooms, at least 2 of those were on the 12th floor. As I mentioned in this post (with photos), this past December I had the room at the very end of the 12th floor hallway -- room #1200. That was the best park view room I have had to date.

I also had room #1234 at some point -- I am trying to remember if that was in 2010 or 2011. Also a really great view, but not as great as room #1200! So the 12th floor has been awesome for me so far!

In 2012 my park view was good, but not as good -- I think I was on a lower floor and further down the hall, away from the direction of DCA.

I have to look at my pictures and see what the other room numbers were that I can't remember -- I usually take a picture of the number on every trip, specifically so I will be able to reference it later.

blackjackdelta had the 14th floor last year, and his view was amazing, as you can see -- Here and Here.

Just returned yesterday from a six day stay. We loved this hotel! Thought I would post some pictures, since our room layout was a little different than others I've seen here. Instead of having the closet and a little nook with a chest of drawers and the coffee maker in the entry way, all of that was in the bathroom. I believe this was because our rooms had a little foyer that adjoined with the room next door and that took away some of the in room space.

But I present to you room 1434, a concierge level theme park view room.

So walking in, there's just wall to the right. On the left is the door to the bathroom. Immediately to the right in the bathroom area is the vanity, and straight ahead is the shower.

Across the space from the vanity is the closet (which is huge) and the towel rack is all the way over behind the bathroom door, next to the closet.

When facing the closet, the toilet was in its own little room to the right. The inside door knob plate was falling off the entire time we were there. While we didn't call about it, I'm surprised mousekeeping hadn't noticed it either.

Aside from the odd bathroom layout, the rest of our room looked pretty similar to others I've seen.

The beds and pillows were so comfortable, we were trying to figure out how to sneak them home! :rotfl:

There was plenty of drawer and closet space for me. My friend could have had the top set of drawers, but he just lived out of his backpack all week.

And of course....the view!

And while I couldn't get a good camera angle, we could also see Big Thunder Mountain if we really looked to the left!

A few shots of World of Color from the room to finish off.

I've had PPH rooms with the coffee maker in the bathroom before, as well as rooms with the little nook! I prefer the little nook rather than having the coffee maker in the bathroom (I also charge my camera battery in that spot and leave my smaller items there), but if the view is good I will deal with it.

Thanks for posting the great pictures!:cool1:

Ooh, what did you find??? Where is it?

I did, but it wasn't really helpful to us. I think it only helps if you are staying in a certain wing of GCH. We went through GCH out to DTD, or (depending on the time of day) to the GCH entrance to DCA.

This room looks bigger and nicer than the room we had at PPH a couple of weeks ago. The separate toilet room would have been a huge benefit.

A trick I learned from DISboards was to bring a power strip so that you can make use of one outlet on the desk to charge all your electronics. So much easier than searching the room for all the outlets!:thumbsup2

What kind of room is when the toilet is separate? I would prefer the sinks separate from the toilet.

We would have liked the nook as well, for the same reason. The coffee maker took up quite a lot of space on the counter. We ended up putting most of our small things on top of the dresser.

We found it very quick and helpful to cut through the GCH to get to either DTD/DL or take the special entrance into DCA.

The room was very big, plenty of space for the two of us. We certainly didn't mind the toilet being in it's own separate area, but it still didn't really help with two people trying to get ready at once.

I think it just happened to be a design thing for our wing of the building-the right tower when facing the front of the hotel. Our room was a premium view, concierge level.

That is the way we went, too. There is a somewhat unknown shortcut from one wing of GCH to a door that brings you out in DTD closer to the back check. You can go out it but you can't go back in. It is tucked way back and hard to find from DTD side. It involved stairs and I was in an ECV this trip due to a knee injury, so we didn't even bother trying to find it. I think it only helps if you are on that end of the GCH so you don't have to backtrack to the regular entrance to DTD from GCH.

There is no reason to use the "secret" stairs when staying at PPH, you would need to take the elevator to the 3rd floor and walk down the stairs :headache:

This. We were in 1400 a couple of weeks ago and it was the room with the nook and toilet/sinks/shower all in one room. We were on the left side of the hotel if you look at the front of the building.

I would probably bring the power strip if I were sharing the room with other people -- then it would make a lot of sense because everyone would have phones and cameras and who knows what else to charge. However, I almost feel guilty admitting that I have become quite fond of staying at the PPH by myself in the last couple of years, with no one else there, and so I always know I will either be charging things in the little nook where the coffee maker is, or on the desk/table closer to the window...or both. I can fill up the entire mini-fridge with water bottles and use up all of the outlets without worrying about anyone else's stuff!

One of these days I must, must, must try the concierge level, though. That is one thing I have never done at the PPH, although I have seen countless concierge photos.

bellebookworm9 -- I know I would have loved those pineapple beef skewers, strawberries and cookies (I was looking at your concierge food photos over in the Hotels/Concierge Photo thread)! Yum!

That's precisely what I found out. :) I had hoped it would help me from PPH, but indeed not.

We always have at least 4 of us, so the power strip comes in quite handy. Although sometimes I think DH alone could fill one.:)

Monster Cable makes an excellent travel power strip. Outlets are on both sides, so large power adapters do not block other outlets. Cord wraps around and plugs into itself for compact storage.
