Paradise Pier or DL Hotel?

Hi!
I got some great advice yesterday regarding a decision we were making about whether or not to stay at a Good Neighbor hotel or at a DL resort. When I broke down the prices, we will probably spend three of our nights at a DL resort. Yay! :yay:
So my question now is....should we go for Paradise Pier or Disneyland Hotel? PP is the least expensive. Does anyone have some advice based on what they've experienced? We would be at the parks most of the day and since we need to go back to HoJo's at the end of our stay, we can handle it not being the most posh of settings. But I just wanted to know if there were advantages to one over the other. Thanks for the help!!

I don't think you can go wrong either way. We have always stayed at the PPH and we love it there. One of it's best perks IMO is how close it is to DCA and being able to use the GCH guests only park entrance. About a 5 minute walk!!

However, the newly renovated rooms at DLH look amazing and the new pool area looks fun, too!

Either way you should have a blast!! :cool1:

We were trying to pick between the two hotels for our upcoming October trip and went with PPH just for the Theme Park view. Somebody correct me if im wrong but i don't believe DLH as an option for a Theme Park view.

I've stayed at both hotels (before/during the DH renovation) and I definitely prefer the PP. Mostly just because it seemed closer to the park than the DH. If you are staying mostly for the benefit of EE, I would go with PP. If you are staying to be more immersed in Disney, go with DH.

PPH has superior park views. You can see right into Paradise Pier.

DLH has what it calls Resort Views because you look mainly at DTD. You can see DL at an angle but mostly just the tip tops of some attractions. You can see a little of DCA too.

Stayed at PP in June. We were really pleased with it. We had a park view room. Loved our view, we turned on the TV to the WOC narration channel and watched from our room. You can't see all the images, but it's still fun to see.

We enjoyed the walk through GC, either to DCA or to DL through DTD. Next visit, I might like to stay at DLH, but this trip, I wanted to save the money.

If you can afford it, stay at the Disneyland Hotel!

This is by far the best resort hotel on property and is arguably the best resort hotel of all Disney properties (including WDW). The renovations are now fully completed and the room are simply amazing. The hotel property is wonderful and there are so many extra things to do within the hotel complex itself. The new E-Ticket pool with the Monorail Waterslides is great and if you've got kids they will want to spend a morning or afternoon there. The new Trader Sam's lounge is an attraction in itself and the food and drinks are unique and exotic. And then there is always Goofy's Kitchen for the best character meal at DLR, and Steakhouse 55 which now has a breakfast that is getting rave reviews.

I can't say enough good about the new rooms at the Disneyland Hotel. There are many pictures available, but overall most agree that this is a huge improvement over the old classic style rooms. (You have to see the Castle headboard with the lighted fireworks!) The rooms are large and comfortable. Most views are good with either a view of Downtown Disney (my favorite, which also provides an excellent view of the fireworks), or a view of the pool area. (Note that some of the "standard" views do face the parking lots.)

I wrote several blogs on the construction and refub. Check out the last one on the completed Hotel. http://www.disunplugged.com/2012/02/05/disneyland-hotel-refurbishment-completed/

The walk from the Disneyland Hotel to either park is about the same as the Paradise Pier (in fact, I think the walk from PP is a bit longer). And all DLR hotel guests have access to Magic Mornings, early entry to Disney California Adventure (through the Grand Californian entrance). And the Disneyland Hotel also has convenient self-parking in the front.

I really recommend staying at the Disneyland Hotel if you have the chance. You absolutely will not regret it!

I've stayed at the GC and the DLH and the DLH is my favorite, by far. This next trip we're going to try PP as it was much cheaper yet still close to the parks. I've read pretty good reviews here and felt it was worth trying.

The Dobies have stayed at all three. We were not impressed by the DHL. If a helicopter dropped a bunch of money on our heads, we would get a theme park view at GCH and have room service bring us margaritas all afternoon so we could sip them on the balcony...:drinking:...otherwise, it is PPH for us!!!

We love the PPH, but I think the theme park view makes ALL the difference!!!!!

I TOTALLY agree. We won't stay anywhere else now.

I stayed at the PPH during my last visit to DL and LOVED it. The staff was amazing, and the views we got from our room were incredible...of both the Grand Californian and Paradise Pier at DCA. Hope that helps

I'm having the same dilemma.

Can someone compare the size of the rooms at DLH with PPH? I'm looking at a King room with kid on the sofa/twin bed and a crib in the room. Considering a standard room at DLH or a Concierge room (ideally Cabana) at PPH. Which will feel less crowded?

If you can get a park view room at PPH, then I'd vote for that. The entrance to DCA is incredibly convenient from the PPH, and DCA is becoming a rather popular park nowadays!

Without a park view, I was not really impressed by the PPH, aside from park access/short walk (it felt overpriced to me). It was really magical to leave DCA after the 8 PM WoC/park closing, go to White Water Snacks and pick up "room service" and walk it back to my mom. With DCA being so popular now, I would find the PPH even more appealing.

I've heard many good things about DLH too (I haven't been there since their refurbishments...2 refurbishments ago, I think!). If on-site restaurants mean anything to you, DLH is probably the way to go, and if you have small children they may prefer the DLH's pool.

Have a great trip!
