OK, my best friend and I watch this show and loved it from the very first episode. But both of us had a really hard time watching these past two episodes featuring the returned guests. It was downright scary to watch Zach's incredibly childish taunting of Zach. When PH first began, I found Zack amusing, as he just seemed so incredibly cocky that it was silly. But now, he's gone far beyond that and into the zone of horrifying. And I mean that, truly, truly horrifying. I'm amazed that these people could go home, watch themselves on TV, and then come back and behave a thousand times worse. I laughed when Zack said that everyone watching the show believed Keith to be a loser. To be, nobody on PH has done a better job of keeping their composure and coming off as someone who is both "playing the game" and remaining civil at the same time.
I actually had difficulty breathing during the past two episodes, my stomach was so tied up in knots. But I loved the twist at the end of the last episode, when it was revealed that the remaining guests would decide which two visitors were allowed to remain in Paradise. Andon, whom I actually liked during his first visit, and who morphed into a complete jerk while away... well, I cheered to see him put in his place, to watch him go from big, muscled-up bully to "uh-oh, I better make nice to Dave... he's got some power here." It's almost like seeing the geeks take over the schoolyard. Woo-hoo!
Meanwhile, I noticed a week or two ago that Amanda stopped saying "you will be checking out of paradise... FOREVER." I was disappointed, because I loved mocking her. Heck, I thought it would make a great drinking game. Do a shot everytime they say "forever," whether it's hostess Amanda or the voiceover (has any show in the history of TV ever done more "coming up on" which do nothing but give away the twists? I try to turn them off). I really truly believe that a lot of the twists and turns of this show have been made up as they go along. For example, they probably wouldn't have had Amanda say "forever" all those weeks if they'd known early on that they'd be bringing back the original guests at some point. The show was originally scheduled to end 8 episodes ago, and then Fox decided it was doing well enough to extend another eight episodes. Obviously, at that point, they had to think of some way to stretch things out, thus the return of all the guests and the eventual return of two chosen from that group to go from visitors to actual guests.
Oh lord, I can't believe I spent this much of my morning typing this missive about a show that is so... well, I believe in the future, when you look up the word "cheese" it will have a picture of the Paradise Hotel cast.
Can't wait until the next episode...
