I see all of these neat paper piecings on ebay and in layouts, but have no idea how they make them. I know sometimes they use coloring books, but that's about it. Anyone willing to give me instructions, or refer me to a website that tells how to do paper piecings. I don't have a clue. :confused3 I have the WDW theme park coloring book, but I'm not sure what to do now.
Thanks for your help.

I'll try and help....I do lots of paper piecings and teach classes at our local scrapbook store.

First of all, make a xerox copy of your coloring book page- you don't want to use your original.

It's extremely helpful to have a Hermafix dot adhesive (the little blue dots rub off). Now, let's pretend that you are going to do a Pooh paper piecing. I've found the easiest way is to cut a base and build on top of that - so, using the Hermafix, attach the entire picture of Pooh to a bright yellow piece of cardstock. Cut Pooh out and then remove the xerox page and rub off the glue dots. You'll now have a base shaped like Pooh and you can build the rest off of this.

Now take the pattern and place it onto a piece of red cardstock. Cut out only the parts of Pooh's shirt. Remove the pattern, rub off the dots and adhere the red pieces to your base.

I've used Pooh, because he's very simple - a good one to start with.

Add all of the detailing and edging with a black marker. This is the most time-consuming part, but really makes the character stand out.

Hope this helps...

Patty

Thanks! That's a lot of help. I will make copies of my wdw coloring book and give it a try!
Thank you. :)

I use graph paper to transfer my image to the colored paper. Just take a photo copy of your picture. Then place the graph paper between your copy and the colored paper and trace and then cut out. If I making Mickey for example I just make his whole body in black. Then glue on his face, shorts, shoes, and gloves on top.

I make cardstock templates and trace around them. I like to use a base, too. I may try the hermafix next time, thanks Twinmom7 for the hint! :flower:

FYI - I posted a linnk to online Disney coloring book pages a week or 2 ago in teh sticky at the top. There are some great ones for paper piercing in there.

I was wondering too - thanks for the great thread! Now I'll have to try this.
