Paper Piecing - Just a peek!

Ok I have found a new obsession. Since I have figured out the correct way to make these I've been online searching for new patterns. This is one I just made tonight since I can't sleep

There is NOOOOOO way I will ever be in the same league as you my dear..lol.. These are not even close to the quality of yours, trust me..lol.. I'm just dinking around with them. Trying to find some good ones with not alot of details to play with.

i still have not even ventured into that! i still want to learn what my big bug can do. really. i made the lumpy last week with it and i thought i was just something!!!!!! and all i did was glue it together.
i'm a visual learner. so i'd need someone to walk me through a paper piecing.

It's a little shadowy in my screen, but from what I can see, it does look just like something a someone we know would like to reach through the screen to take.

Did you put the blue water pieces on top of the green canoe? That is some tiny cutting. They look good too.

You can add me to the list of one who loves all these great paper piecings that everyone is making. I love how these are something you will not see in anyone else's books.

Thanks Yes i did cut out the tiny water drops. I didn't do a blacker outline I don't think the scrap booking pen I have is the right kind. What does everyone else use to darken the lines.

Great work Kat. That is like 1000% better than my first try at it. You would laugh if you saw my first paper piecing. I still have it.... its your favorite disney character. I do not even want to put it in my book it is so bad.

I use a felt tipped pen, something where you can run the side of the pen along the edge of the paper. The one I have now is the Marvy 1122 Le Plume II pen. I really like it.

1. I darken on the computer before I print it out. I use Paint Shop Pro, and I do it when I am cleaning up the image and breaking it apart.

2. I don't darken anything.

3. Sometimes I do the edges with the thicker tip of my Marvy Memories Pigmented Artist pen. Its just one of those markers they sell at M's.

I use a zig marker -- either the chisel tip or round tip. I run it along the edges where you can see I either didn't cut close enough tot he line or I cut too close to the line. I don't darken the interior lines.

Unfortunately, I don't know how to use the system Hope does where you take apart the image. I have been using up a lot of paper reprinting the entire image over and over again.

If you are familiar with the graphics programs like Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop. You can make "layers." So I duplicate the layer for as many times as I need colors. Then on each layer, I erase what I don't need. It takes a bit of time, but not as much as when I first started.

I am not and I don't have those programs. I should put it on my to do list. It is getting backed up. I am still getting familiar with SCAL, haven't really figured out much with CDS and I have a cuttlebug which is still in the box. I need to slow down on my swaps so I have some time to learn these things!
(I did master flock though!)

I love hand-made paper piecings. I also use Hope's method but use a different photo program - one thing about it is for really intricate pieces (many different colors), you really have to think about what you need and what you need to erase.

But Susan, there's another "basic" way to do the same thing without expensive programs. Most computers come with a Paint application, you can use that to separate the pieces by color/layer, once you've opened the picture in it. It's not as user friendly as the photo programs, but it gets the job done. Just remember to rename each layer when you save them. Then you just put each layer on a different page of Word (or some other program), and print on that color cardstock. Easy! (if I explained it right?!? )

Great job, Kat! That's really cute. Along with darkening the lines with black marker, I sometimes use a white paint marker to make sure the mouth and eyes are the right color. Then I sometimes use chalk, stickles, and glossy accents to bring it even more to life.
