Panic Mode!

I have just received notification that I have been hit with a speeding charge.

It will be in the form of a fixed penalty (£60) and 3 points on my licence

I will return the form first thing in the morning on the way to work. I will then have to wait for the paperwork regarding paying the fine and returning my licence for the endorsement.

Now I am in major panic mode.

We fly out to Orlando on February 18 for a small break after Christmas. Obviously I will need my licence as I have booked a hire car.

Anyone had a similiar experience and if so how long before you sent off the licence and got it back.

I am very concerned although her indoors:mad2: keeps telling me not to worry about it (I am the only driver!)

John,

I would have thought you would be fine - recently DH had to send his off for points to be added and he had the licence back within 10 days. However this close to your holiday I understand your concenr - is it worth ringing DVLA and asking what they suggest?

Good luck!

Karen

Thanks. According to the paperwork the fine will have to be sent to the Ipswich office (I live in Ipswich!!). I assume the licence will go with it and they will put the points on it prior to returning it

you could try finding out where your nearest DVLA local office is and go down, they will put them on straight away, although you may have to wait in line for a while. my dh has used the dvla office in preston loads of times for things like that.

Thanks for replies. I have just phoned the local office in Ipswich and when I explained the situation regarding needing my licence in the USA the girl on the other end of the phone said if I called a week before flying out they will allow me extra time to get the necesssary fine/driving licence back to them.

Now feeling loads better.

Once again thanks for all the input

John

:rotfl:

DH posted the one above in my name.

I think he should have thought about what he was typing.

"he's been to the preston office loads of times for things like that". I'm supprised he still has a licence then. :teeth:

Exactly the same thing happened to dh before our trip last July. I posted on the boards and got some very helpful responses.

The upshot is, he wrote a letter explaining the circumstances and he had the period for accepting the fixed penalty extended.

Edited to say that he didn't need to send his licence until after we returned to the UK just in case that wasn't clear.
