Panic Buying!

It's two fold for my family

1) we're in an area with a large outbreak of the virus. I don't want to end up quarantined and run out!
2) we have no idea how wide spread this virus will become, nor how it will disrupt supply chains.

We didn't buy more than we normally would, but we did buy a Costco package sooner than we would have otherwise.

I admit I did some panic buying today
4 bottles of wine
2 bottles of vodka
a couple sampler bottles too
If I'm stuck in the house for 2 weeks with dh we are both going to need it

When we did our preparedness shopping last week, a case of wine & beer were the first things in the cart! Quarantined with 4 kids for 2 weeks = bottoms up!

Good point. I think I might need to beef up our stash... Alcohol and junk food. I need to maintain my sanity.

My honey has a thing about running out of paper towels and toilet paper. We always have an open 6 pack and and unopened one. We have a case of paper towels in our RV, a case of paper towels in a RV where storage is at a premium. I laughed so hard I cried when handed them to me to load. We won't run out any time soon since I rarely use them in the RV because we try to cut down on filling up trash bags. He is actually at the grocery store right now, he went to buy ingredients to make a german choc. cake because I've been craving one. I have no doubt he will come home with toilet paper and paper towels since I've never known him to go there without buying them.

If you don't buy it someone will. Wait till next month when you can't find it.

I ran into a friend at the grocery store. Her cart was loaded with tons of toilet paper and bleach. She and her husband are retired, and he's on a long term regimen of chemo. She's terrified of the virus, and them having to isolate themselves in case of a local outbreak. She's usually a very calm person.

This is completely understandable!

After I stock up on TP.
We interrupt our programming to bring you this special announcement. Due to virus outbreaks among our sewer plant staff we request that you refrain from using toilet paper for at least the next month. Also, due to shortages at our hospitals, we will be confiscating all toilet paper you have on hand. Thank you for your cooperation. And now, back to our show.

It’s 2 ply for my family. Lol.

Went to Costco and and people are panic buying. We have 49 cases in our entire country of Canada.
People are buying cases of toilet paper and water and Costco knows what their customers want as they have put the stockpile items near the front cash.

I went to Kroger this morning and I think every single person in the store had toilet paper in their cart.

The thing I wonder about is the bottled water. Why are people stocking up on water - are they afraid their utilities are going to cut off? Kroger was almost totally out of water.

I hate to buy into the hysteria. That's what makes things worse for everyone. But when I see the empty shelves where the toilet paper should be, it makes me think I should buy some too. We really don't need to buy toilet paper this week. But if everyone else is buying it, I'm afraid there won't be any available when we do need it. We will probably pick up an extra package when we shop today. Like I said, I hate to buy into this, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I really don't understand why people are buying so much water. We usually have a case of bottled water to grab on the go. When we're at home, we use the filtered water in our refrigerator. I use that to make coffee and fizzy water with my Soda Stream. If we were prepping for a major weather event or some disaster that would affect infrastructure, then it would be warranted. If we have to quarantine at home, I'm assuming we will have water, electricity, gas and Netflix. And after we shop today, we'll have plenty of toilet paper.

I swear it only seems to be people shopping at the club type stores, or maybe the people around me are just slackers because we went shopping last weekend and then again yesterday and the shelves all look normal--even for toilet paper. :-)

Was at Publix where I shop at and all the toilet paper was gone....
I do commercial flooring and the places we get our safety gloves and glasses and dust mask from are all on back order been in this trade for 30 years and never seen this before.....

Definitely justified under their circumstances.

We do Amazon Subscribe and Save so we were already overloaded on paper products anyway.
