Pancreatic Cancer (Update... pg 2)

Our neighbor across the street sadly passed away last year from pancreatic cancer. His wasn't operable, but he did survive a little over a year with it. Toward the end he was very ill, and it was very heartbreaking. I do hope your friend's dad comes out of this OK. Prayers for him.:(

Update:

I talked to my friend (Sally) last night and she said that her dad just got back from the surgeon who said that he NOT a candidate for surgey because of the size and placement of the tumor... :(

Sally said basically she feels like she is in denial because she feels everything may work out for the best, even though she admited to knowing how bad it really is.

Her sister has begun a quest for information and has already sent him a big supply of some sort of tea that helps bolster the immune system. Sally said the worst it can do in nothing.

I am assuming he will go in for chemo but after what I have read here and what I have seen other places, it may not turn out as well as we all hope.

Sally is my best friend and has been for 34 years. We met in Kindergarden and our friendship has endured the years. Her dad has always been a little odd (to the point of wearing a helmet in the car in case he got into an accident), but hes been in my life almost since the beginning and I certainly do not want him to die a painful death. He has always been a tremendous health nut. Shopping at health food stores and taking loads of vitamins ever since I can remember. Maybe this will help him... but who knows... :(

Oh. :(

With my mom, they didn't know what it was, after taking test after test after test. Finally, they did an exploratory surgery and found the cancer. They don't know what it was originally attached too, it was too much, and too entwined with her organs. They couldn't do anything for her.
They set up the 6 week appointment but didn't expect her to make it that long. For the most part, my mom did well for about 6 months. She was strong, my mom would refuse to be anything less. The day after Mother's Day the hospital was planning on making a video showing others how to give themselves chemo, using my mom.
The very next day she went downhill and another day later she was gone.

Make sure all the affairs are in order. Will, living will, etc.
Make sure your friend has the support she needs. Make sure she has a safe place to cry. :(

I hope, and pray that things turn out well for your friend and her dad.

*I had to add, this was 11 years ago. Medicine has come a long way since then.

So sorry.

Hang in there.

Just an FYI-we took my brother to the Mayo Clinic when he had colon cancer. He did not have a good prognosis so he had nothing to lose. It had spread to his liver and the tumor was wrapped around his bile duct so they could not operate.

I was very impressed with the Mayo Clinic. Top notch doctors and staff. All he did was tell his Doctor he was going and we went.

He ended up getting experimental treatment in Tennessee that did prolong his life somewhat.

They make new discoveries every day. It's hard to get through the initial shock but there are places where you can go for a second or third opinion.

You all will be in our thoughts and prayers.
