Wondering if anyone has experience with both of these cameras, and came out with one in the lead?
I am replacing my old sony cyber shot, and was torn between the TZ5 and G9...
I got a really great deal on the G9, so I went with it. While I do like it, I am having trouble focusing some of the "zoom" pics, and it seems kind of bulky / akward to me. Just don't really feel like I "love" it.

I have a few more days before I can return / exchange it without penalty, and I just don't know what to do.
It is so hard to decide if I like something, just by using it in the store.

I will say, that I have little knowledge, and will not be making much use of all the "extras" the g9 has to offer, with manual settings. I jsut don't have the time to learn it.

I mainly take pics of my kids and vacations, lol. So I need something with a good zoom, and a quick shutter speed, so that my child hasn't disappeared from the camera view by the time the pic is actually taken!!

I do like that the g9 seems to do great with taking out the "blur" in moving pics.

TIA for any advice!!

i bought my mother a Panasonic TZ5 and she likes it, small size with 10x zoom and the "intelligent auto" mode, it works great except maybe action shots where you need to choose the appropriate scene mode (there are no real manual controls with the TZ5) If you don't use the manual controls and value size over function then perhaps it makes sense to spend less and get the TZ5.

I currently own a Panasonic TZ5, and I briefly owned a Canon G9 before selling it.

You stated that you don't plan on using the manual features of the G9. With that in consideration, I'd definitely recommend the TZ5. The TZ5 has a nice "Auto Intelligent" feature that works very well for most shots.

If size matters, the G9 is quite a bit clunkier than the TZ5.
