Palo Menu Question

I have one big question about palo. What is the menu like for the dinner at palo? The reason I am asking is that my husband is somewhat of a picky eater. Do you think he would find something to eat? :confused3 I mean if not he could order room service or go to the buffet afterwards. At first I decide we were not going to do it because I didn't think they would have enough for us to like. Now that I read the boards (all the time) :) I have a gut feeling I would regret it. Last of all, do you tip them when you leave Palos. If anyone could help me with this it would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks,
Courtney

The food and service were phenomenal.

The menu has a good selection for those who are not adventurous with food, such as filet mignon and lasagna.

The $10 surcharge is meant to be the "tip" but we tipped more because we really thought our server was exceptional (both in service and in attitude-- he was fun).

I am a picky eater also (although in my older age I am getting better!). I don't like a lot of "fancy" stuff on my food and I don't like vegetables and I was able to find plenty of good stuff to eat at Palo's. I think he will be able to find something there!

the $10 surcharge is not meant to be the tip...people have listed tipping their server in Palo and addition $20 to $100 per meal. Enjoy!

Here's a link to see the menu.

I want to try almost all of their entrees!! Do they let people order multiple entrees and appetizers etc....???

We had a large group of 10 and our server -Sasha (I highly recommend him)- brought us out one of every appetizer! Incredible amount of food. He brought out multiple desserts and one or two extra entrees.
I am a VERY picky eater also, that's why we didn't do high tea I didn't see anything on the menu I liked. :teeth: I loved dinner and the champagne brunch though! I had filet mignon and it was incredible.

Sasha is amazing! Last time on the Wonder we had Nico. He brought out everything we ordered and, as he called them, a few "surprises". Basically it was tastes of a few appetizers and entrees. We couldn't eat all the food, but it was like a fantasy to try everything!

You can order multi items from the menu...and they'll custom your order if needed...so DH who is a picky eater...should rest assured...he'll find something...My hubby is also a VERY picky eater...a NO veggie kind of guy. Although he did go into the cruise with the thought of trying new things...even if it ment an occasional veggie bite.

Also I do believe the $10 surcharge does go to the staff as your tip for dinning in Palo's. Many cruiser do tip addtional after the meal...but there is no rule that you have to tip over. One question...is if you feel the surcharge isn't for the tip...then what is it for???

Oh, so hungry now...

Speaking from experience, they will keep bringing you food as long as you'll keep eating it. :earboy2: DW and I did 4 appetizers, 3 entrees, and 2 desserts (and a partridge...)

Started out, she had a salad, I had the calamari, and we split the buffalo mozzarell. I had to order more calamari, partly because it was maybe the best I've ever had, and partly because DW ate quite a bit of it. It just dissolves. Mmmm...

For entrees, she had veal, I had lamb, and we split the crabmeat tortelloni (incredibly good). For dessert, of course, the souffles. Great googily moogily were those things good.

Good question and lots of thoughts and theories.

1) When DCL started sailing the charge for dinner was $5 per person and it was considered the tip.
2) When DCL bumped up the price to $10 per person and started calling it a "service fee" and many felt that the extra $5 per person was going to go towards maintaining and upgrading Palo. And that the original $5 still went as a tip.
3) Over time it's come to be believed that the $10 per person gets pooled and divided by the entire staff up in Palo as a tip and that anything you tipped above the $10/person went to your server.

So for me the "real" answer is I don't know. So we usually tip an extra $10 per person

I"m a very picky eater too and I found the food to be exceptional and there was plenty to choose from. I say go for it.

We plan to do Palo next month, will be the first time in 4 DCL cruises we will go. I thought I was going to have just few things to choose from because like many mentioned here, I am not a fancy eater--veggies are okay, but asparagus is on the no-no list, and a few other preparations here concerned me, but I'm now feeling much more comfortable about customizing what they do, leave off a little of this or that, nothing huge, and I'm sure it will be great.

And getting the recipe for the chocolate souffle in the mail this week as a Castaway Club member sure helped my enthusiasm for Palo as well!!

Do they have the lobster tails if you go on the night that it is served in the dining room?

I just want to thank everyone for their replies. Now all I have to do in convince my DH (it won't take much) :love2: Now I am waiting for the first West Coast Cruisers to sail to see what nights are special so we don't miss anything (pirate...etc) so i know what night is best for Palo. Our family can't wait for our Aug cruise.

Thanks once again!!! :)

Maybe this is a stupid question, but how do you give an extra tip at Palos? Is there a bill to sign to your account (drinks, etc,) that you can add the tip on to?

Yes, you sign a bill at the end that will have the $10 pp charge. You'll have any additional bill to sign for any wine/beer/etc. You can add your additional tip on the bill, just as you would at home.

I am definitely a picky eater. We didn't do Palo on our first 2 cruises because they were short. I looked at the menu to see if I would like the food.

Personally, the dinner menu did absolutely nothing for me. so when I found out about the brunch, I looked into it.

We did end up doing the brunch and it was fabulous. It was so much more my style!!!

I spoke to a cruise rep who was adament that the $10 surcharge is the gratuity. We still tipped in addition. I highly recommend Palo's!!

Just wanted to add a little more JMO...on the tip/surcharge... at ANY restraunt that you would dine in and leave a tip...the server (whom is tipped) should add up what they made in tips each shift...then hand out a portion to chef, dishwashers, bussers....and so on.. At least when I worked as a waitress...that's what we were expected to do...If you think about it you as a waiter/waitress are not being tipped 100% on your preformance...If you (as a customer get your meal and the chef messed it up...or your plate or glass wasn't cleaned...or you had to wait to be seated extra long because the hostess was off gabbing...what would you tip on your experience....My thought is..the whole dinning experence is wrapped around the tip...I can't see people tipping soley on the amount of the bill...but on the whole experience.

So even if that's what what DCL does with their tips (pool them)...it's the norm. And if your going as a couple...the $10 surcharge per person...that's adding up to a $20 tip/surcharge already.

But then again that's JMO
