Palo Dress Code Changes?

I'd LOVE to dress up, but after having baby #3, the only dress I own no longer fits well. UGH! Gotta lost 20lbs in 4 weeks.... Yeah right..... Guess I'm going shopping! Lol

It doesn't matter to me what other people wear.
I would not wear jeans but I doubt I would even notice if someone else had them on.
I'm like you. My dh has been wearing dress pants and a collared shirt to Palo since we starting cruising 4 1/2 years ago. I never knew that was a problem. I never really pay attention to what other people are wearing in the MDR, but I think I would notice swim wear or wife beater shirt. I'd probably just laugh at them. It wouldn't annoy me. I've never seen any of that though. Like I said I've never taken it upon myself to police other people.

I like the idea of dresses. I have tons of them. But, I never wear them. No need to. I'm currently in the process of selling most of mine, actually. On cruises when I have to wear dresses it's literally me timing it so I put it on riiiiiight before my dinner seating, sitting there very self-conscious & uncomfortable for my meal, then racing back to my room to put on human clothes. I'm just not comfortable. Nice jeans with a blouse, wedges or heels, and maybe a cute blazer would be very nice. Very! TBH, I'd be most happy with a Palo picnic in my room in my pjs watching on-demand movies. LOL! Palo take-out!

I wish they'd eased up on the tennis shoes. I get far more use out of a pair of chinos when on holiday than I do a pair of dress shoes which I'd only wear once (and which take up more room in the luggage than a pair of chinos).

The problem with a dress code is that it does not really ensure that people look elegant. Take a tuxedo for example: You would think that this is easy, all men look good in tuxedos. But if it does not fit, maybe because the owner put on 20 pounds since they last wore it, or lost 20 pounds, it will not look good. Also, people have different tastes in clothing. For example, I see a lot of Disney ties and waistcoats on DCL and personally, I don't like them. To me formal clothing includes patterns that are not made out of comic book figures. But this is my personal taste. I would never think less of someone who wants to wear this.

So, even with the previous dress code, I regularly saw people that in my opinion dressed in a way, that I would never have chosen for myself. But this is not something that takes anything away from my enjoyment of a meal. And with regards to the pants someone is wearing: those are only visible for such a short time during the meal that most likely I don't even notice it with at least two thirds of the people in the restaurant.

To me the change doesn't make any sense. You can now wear nice jeans but no tennis shoes. So you are going to have people wear jeans with dress shoes. So dumb IMO.

One time in Palo I saw a fully grown woman (mid 40s) in a Snow White dress. Contrast this to a smart pair of jeans and its easy to tell which is the more ridiculous

On our last Fantasy cruise we were having dinner in Palo on pirate night, and in walked a couple decked out, I mean decked out in pirate outfits.
I did a double take, as did everyone else in the room.

I didn't see another thread on this yet. So the dress code for Palo is now saying jeans are okay, as long as they are in good condition. And I don't see capris listed as prohibited any longer either. What do you think? I personally am disappointed to see jeans allowed. I liked the dressier feel of Palo.

My husband who has to dress up for work (and hates it) will be overjoyed with the idea of wearing jeans in Palo!

Not gonna lie to you, I love dressing up but I hate packing for it. If it wasn't for that, we could travel with carry-ons only. Having to dress up forces us to check-in and carry more luggage.

My Son also has to dress for work but i have taught him to dress for the occassion so he will wear a pair of black trousers and a shirt for Palo that takes up less room than a pair of Jeans and is lighter in weight. He can wear his jeans and shorts for the food stations around the pools.

I find it at odds with the ever increasing fares and fees for all the extra stuff. It's like they want to be a higher caliber cruise line, then they lower the standards.

It actually doesn't matter to me, personally. I wouldn't wear jeans to Palo, but if every one did, I wouldn't even notice. I'm too busy having my own vacation to notice what other people are wearing or doing.

I agree with this 100%! Last summer at brunch on the Dream I was taking note of dress because of how often the topic of capris at brunch came up here. I noticed a woman following the dress code. She had on a short flowy casual skirt, which rose very high in the back when she leaned over the table while standing (I couldn't help but notice as this was my view, and the woman at the table next to her also noticed by her reaction ;) ). She also had on a plain cotton shirt with Minnie Mouse on it. I wouldn't call it a T shirt, but 1 step up maybe. There was also someone there technically not following the dress code in nice black capris, with strappy sandals, and a very nice top, made of that shiny material. IMO, the guest not following the dress code looked MUCH more elegant than the one in a "skirt and top" following the rules.

i guess the bottom line is dress is very subjective.

I don't even notice what the person at the table next to me is wearing so it's not going to ruin my experience. I love dressing up and the husband knows that if I have heels and a dress on, he most certainly is NOT accompanying me in jeans so our family won't be affected. I also think it's hard to ruin the ambiance of an entire restaurant that has candles, white linens and waiters that cater to your every whim with someone showing up under dressed so I'm not concerned about that.

BUT....is it really that hard to throw on a pair of khakis? I can see not wanting to wear a jacket and tie, especially if you have to wear one to work every day, but I'm struggling to see how putting on a pair of khakis to go to dinner is such a burden. Again, I don't give two hoots what someone else wears to dinner, I'm just genuinely perplexed by the idea that wearing khaki pants to a 5 star, upscale dining establishment is prohibitive in any way. Am I missing something?

If I had to guess, I'd say the 'dressy jeans' was aimed at women with very stylish pants that happen to be made of jean material. They could have rhinestones on them or lacy cutouts and are certainly more fitted than a pair of straight legged levis. But that's just a guess. It could be that people just complained about having to dress up for one meal.

Every time I've worn jeans I've been reminded why I prefer a pair of khakis or something of that sort. Jeans are *hot*. They're heavy and they're miserably hot. On Caribbean cruises the last thing I want to do is put pants on, but I'd rather wear a light twill or even thinner dress pants as opposed to what amounts to canvas.

I suspect you're right re: the dressy jeans. I can't say that I'm surprised if that was the intent. I used to think Celebrity was a line with a more "traditional" cruise dress code, but sometime last year, my parents showed me their new dress code policy allows "designer jeans" for women on formal night.

The revised policy isn't going to change how I dress for Palo, though. I will continue to treat it as an upscale dining opportunity.
