Hi All,

trying to decide which to book dinner at on our Western in summer. Trying to get an idea of what you love most about each and if you prefer one over the other.. thanks!!

Palo - A nice evening, not overly fancy but still great Italian dishes. I love the souffle and it is why a lot of people go. We do dress up a little but not nearly as much as we do over at Remy. It is akin to our "average" date night at home so it works as date night on the cruise as well.

Remy - Fine dinning experience. We get much more dressed up (although it isn't 100% required to go that far). Feels like a special occasion meal. It has French and American dishes with a "dueling" menu that you can mix and match or order a la carte. It takes much longer than Palo. The cheese course is my absolute favorite thing in the world (I'm a massive cheese fan). The menu changes seasonally but I love that they often have harder to find proteins like venison.

We've done both but prefer Palo because:

Although they're small, there are several courses in Remy which equals a lot of food. DH gets pretty uncomfortable with too much food!

See above-Remy takes much longer.

We're not really foodies-the food is much better (to me) in Remy than Palo, but it takes so long and we're so full that it kind of cancels it out if that makes sense.

Palo (minus gratuity) is free for us as platinum Castaway Cay members. And free...is good.

Souffle. Souffle. Souffle. I don't love food, per se but I love dessert. The soffle makes me happy :)

So if you enjoy a long, romantic, very good to excellent meal-probably vote Remy. Honestly, we don't need long (or romantic :)) and stick with free souffle.

Either way is good!

Both sounds amazing, but i see that souffle is what most loves! I will book a reservation for Palo Dinner, and who knows? maybe i can convince my dad to also take in a fancy dinner at Remy (my mom loves fancy dinner, not so much my dad).

Both are wonderful. We have never been disappointed with our meal at either place. The souffle at Palo is awesome and we love the Cheese course at Remy. We have done our Anniversary meal at Remy a couple of times and they have always taken good care of us!

I think of Remy as a fine dining experience comparable to Victoria & Albert at WDW. The extra cost is now $95 per person (plus gratuity and possible extras for alcohol, truffles and such like). I think of Palo as comparable to a signature dining experience at WDW. The extra charge is now $30 per person (plus extras again).

We do Palo every cruise, and usually do the Palo brunch as well on the classic ships. We have done Remy or Remy brunch once each on the Fantasy, just as we might do V&A once every few years.

This may depend on your likes and style. My wife and I don't like overly fancy restaurants and "fancy" cheeses and food. We thought Remy was ok, but since we're more sports bar types, we prefer Palo. A "high-end" night for us is a nice steak restaurant and those would likely never to Victoria and Albert's as comparison.

That's just us though, we don't mind spending money, but if I'm going to do it it's going to be on half a cow... :D

I would love to go to both Palo and Remy but did not see much in the way for vegetarians (and I'm allergic to mushrooms). I know when we've eaten at WDW, the chef's have spoken to me and have always made me the most delicious dishes that haven't been on the menu. I just would hate to book a reservation (both spending the money and taking up a reservation someone could use) if there isn't much for me to eat on the menu--would be too sad
Would love to hear from any veggie's experiences!

My husband and I don't eat meat or shellfish. I don't eat mushrooms, and he doesn't eat bell peppers. We have dined on Palo on 9 cruises, and Remy on our last one with no regrets.

We have never had trouble finding food to eat at Palo without advance notice. The kitchen has been able to make minor adjustments -- I think they substitute for a veal-based sauce. We do eat fish, but have always seen at least one vegetarian dish.

When we dined at Remy a few months ago, we did stop by the restaurant on embarkation day to make sure our dietary restrictions were listed on our reservation. Upon arrival, we confirmed our needs with our servers, and our meal met them wonderfully. We were served a few dishes from the regular menu and a few that were clearly prepared just for us. For most courses we had just one choice, but that one choice was excellent. When my husband had fish for one course, I had the most flavorful vegetable plate I have ever had. Each course was small, but we did not leave hungry at all. I would not hesitate to dine at Remy as a vegetarian if you are looking for a fine dining experience. (For vegans, I'm not sure it would be as worthwhile -- the chef could certainly accommodate them, but the typical cheese course and desserts are dairy and I'm not sure substitutions would be as appealing.)

Since they serve such a small number it is highly possible either chef will prepare you a vegetarian meal. Just let them know you are vegetarian and don't eat mushrooms due to an allergy and they'll come up with something. Basically as long as they have the ingredients in the kitchen they'll make it.

Thanks @Mommb and @wilkeliza! I don't eat fish, but DH does. I am definitely a lacto-ovo vegetarian and the more cheese and cream, the better :P I think we'll have to give a whirl this next cruise!

Not to hijack-but, what do people order at Palo? I was really disappointed to find out most of their pasta is just pre-packaged versus fresh. Everything seemed just ok. I guess it was in line with a $30 meal, but folks on these boards tend to equate it to a much higher value.

If you like "elevated" food and don't mind paying the price tag, Remy is worth it. The cold courses were a bit bland, but the meal picked up steam with some very tastes dishes.

Be advised-Remy does not mess around with their shoe dress code haha.

We ate at Remy last Thursday night. One of us had the American Menu and one had the French menu. Everything was amazing! We are foodies though. We also enjoyed the wine pairing for each course.

We always love it as well. Worth the price of admission for us!

Palo, well you can have as many dishes as you wish, I'm a foodie, but not a snob a SN understand most pasta will not be fresh made. It's the sauces and the toppings that really add it for me. It's the peacefulness without taking a long time because we have second seating with the kids right after.

The views and the time with my wife are well worth the small charge just for a quick date night. Family movie and the verandah club marathons for her and I.

Not sure what marathons on the verandah have to do with Palo lol but if it adds to the enjoyment then yay ;)

It's not that the noodles themselves weren't made fresh but that entire pasta dishes were packaged is what I found disappointing. We have some food sensitivities, we had asked our waiter about 3 or so pasta dishes and he told us "I'm very sorry, I asked the chef and those are brought on the ship packaged from stateside so we cannot change anything." I was rather surprised by this. I guess that makes me a food snob lol.

I do agree about the atmosphere. It's fairly quiet. We didn't get the views since it was after dark so all you really see is reflection.

Overall, I think it's an ok meal and worth the price they charge. I think I'm out of the norm as many on here think it's fantasti, so I thought maybe I was ordering the wrong things.

Both are wonderful dining experiences. They are very different though, and which one is right for you is hard to say. We've done both multiple times and usually stick with Palo. However, on occasion we go for Remy. We really do enjoy both. For us its more of a $$ decision.

A few years ago I wrote a review of each on FoodieTales. You can find the links in my sig below.
