Our second cruise is coming up this May. This time I booked Palo brunch for DH and me. I’ve been searching for the menu and am a little confused if it’s a buffet, set menu, or combination of the two. I just wanted to look it over to make sure it’s something we will like. I’m expecting it will be, of course, but I like to look over menus ahead of time.

They have many items that are set out like pastries, meat and cheese, bread, etc. Then the also have menu items like soups, pancakes, pizza, etc. My favorite the last time I went was the chicken Parmesan! There are so many options! Make sure to bring your appetite.

It starts out with a buffet that includes breakfast items, antipasto, breads (stay away... you need space), caviar, seafood and cured meats.

After you get back with your third or fourth plate, your server informs you that those were just the appetizers and that you can now order from the menu. Eggs Benedict, massive Mickey waffles, pancakes, the best lasagna or chicken Parm.

Then... after all that, there’s a dessert buffet with cannolis, tiramisu, pistachio mousse...

Palo brunch is a combination of a-la-carte and buffet, all included in the price. The buffet includes different stations, including meats and cheeses, seafood, breads, desserts and more, and the menu has both breakfast and lunch type offerings, including waffles, eggs, soup, pizzas, lasagna, chicken parmesan, etc. You can have as many or as little dishes from the buffet or menu as you like, and you can go at your own pace. The food and service is excellent, and I highly recommend it.

As @anjuan stated above, its a combination of both. You are encouraged to try some of everything. The buffet part is very extensive with all types of foods. The cooked to order part is equally interesting. We also love the chicken parm

When we last did Palo Brunch (circa fall 2016) a server would serve you at the buffet. This was only at Palo brunch and not ship wide. Is this still the policy? I hated that to be honest as I would like to eat a lot of one thing, and none of another and it was a bit awkward.

Sometimes the servers serve you at Palo, other times they don't. If it makes it awkward for you, just let them know you'd like to serve yourself. Sometimes it may not be possible, if there's noro virus problem, or something else.

We were on the Wonder again last week and our server gave us the 3 min walk around telling us about the food items and then let us go on our own.

They just give you a tour. But our server had very strong opinions on what we should eat and brought us any of his recommendations that we didn't select ourselves. Both from the buffet and from the menu. Wasted a lot of food.

This is not the norm. The server usually gives you a tour, short or long based on your knowledge of the available food, then let’s you serve yourself. However, you might have been there on a day where DCL was using heightened disease prevention measures. One of those measures is to serve the guests at buffets.

They were doing it on the Fantasy in 2014, and the server was trying to anticipate things like when I asked for the prosciutto they put melon on the plate before I could stop them. I paused for a moment and they asked if i wanted more and I said "I really didn't want melon..." and no questions asked they got a new plate and put just prosciutto on it and asked if I would like more. It was not awkward at all once they quit trying to anticipate my wants and I spoke up.

They were not doing it on the Magic in 2016 (though someone did take care of my dad's plate as he had a cane). Nor on the Wonder last week.
