Who eats Paleo and how do you do it on a budget? Need some good recipes that are not going to kill me when I checkout!

Hello

I can't answer your questions but I have been doing Atkins and find the Low Carb Friends forums very active and friendly. There is a section for Paleo, recipes and grocery shopping on a budget.

good luck

oh my we are down to single digits for our Disney trip! Want to lose a couple more pounds

Our family eats pretty clean and natural. It is very difficult to do this on a budget. Real food is not cheap. We do a lot of produce shopping at Costco and we do get some meat there too. Watch your local grocery stores for sales on meat and stock up. We do purchase a hog from a local farmer that pastures their animals and doesnt just feed them grain. We have yet to purchase any grass fed beef as it is pretty expensive and we have heard mixed reviews on the taste. With all that being said we are saving $$$ on all of the processed junk we used to purchase so in the long run it may not be too much more on our budget.

We, at least me, have been eating clean for a while now. We still by some stuff for the kids. My older two are always like there is no food in the house...yes there is--you just have to cook it!

We practice traditional foods rather than "paleo" because my educational background in anthropology tells me thats not a realistic goal-but the best way to make a traditional food or that type of diet work is to take up hunting and gardening.
Even the leanest, pasture beef or hog does not past the test of being a pre-agricultural food-the amino acid profile is different and its expensive. Wild meat is always grass fed and if you process it yourself or have a local plant do it you know how it was handled. Wild meat properly treated will not taste the same as beef but is not unpleasant.
Growning your own vegatables or purchasing a CSA share or from a local foods only farmers market and learning good preserving techiniques-fermenting or drying in addition to freezing ( canning is not traditional) so that you are not purchasing vegs and fruits from who knows where at premium prices in the winter.

emealz is now offering a paleo option. I haven't looked at the sample menu for it yet, so I can't comment about it, but that might be a good way for you to get menu suggestions and stick to your budget

I'm definitely not a Paleo eater and can't help you out on meat, but I highly suggest looking into a local CSA. You can probably order a box (or half box) full of seasonal vegetables and maybe fruits - it varies every week, and much cheaper and less processed than buying in the store.
