Hello everyone-

We are DVC members and AP holders. It seems to me that in one of these two newsletters (about 3 months ago) there was a coupon or something.....that entitled DVC members or AP holders a free one day trial with Pal Mickey.

Does anyone remember? If so, I can't find the coupon (or whatever it is that we need) and how/where can we do this?

Thanks in advance.
;)

In the Spring Vacation Magic it says the coupon will be in your check-in folder at your Disney Vacation Club Resort. A refundable $50 deposit, the coupon, and your DVC Member Card must be presented when renting the Pal Mickey at select Resort and Theme Park locations. The coupon entitles you to a one day rental....additional days are $8.00, or you can purchase Pal Mickey for $50.

I am not sure I like this Pal Mickey concept. Does one carry the stuffed Mickey around all day in arm, or do they come with a backpack? LOL.

My girls are now teens and on their own, not sure I want a new "toddler" to hold onto, LOL!!

Can we put a collar on it and drag it around like a puppy? LOL!!!

We just returned (Saturday) from a visit to OKW. We rented Pal Mickey for one day with the coupon to try him out. Here is a quick report. Questions welcome.

The coupon is included in your folder when you check in. It states that you may only get a free rental once during the promotion period. Not sure how they'd track that, but that's what it says.

They will charge a refundable $50 deposit to a credit card. You use the coupon when you return Pal Mickey and show your member card (room card with DVC member was good enough). Pal Mickey must be returned by noon the next day or an extra day rental will be charged.

Pal Mickey comes with a belt clip that he can be removed from fairly easily. I didn't have too many problems with him coming off the clip as some others have posted. You have to keep him facing out, as the antenna is located in his nose.

When he has something to say, he shakes and laughs. You squeeze his hand or tummy to have him give you the info. Sometimes it is just a joke, other times it will be relevant info to where you are. He also plays 3 games and will tell jokes whenever you squeeze him.

We took him first to Epcot. He didn't have a lot to say about Epcot. He didn't say anything to us about Test Track, but did have some things to say when we went to Wonders of Life and Honey I Shrunk the Audience.

We took the monorail over to Magic Kingdom, and on the way in he thought we were on our way out for a nap. He was the most fun at MK as he has something to say on nearly every ride. He reminds you to keep him dry when you ride splash mountain.

After touring MK, we went over to Disney Studios. Mickey was also a lot of fun here, as he makes a lot of fun comments before and after Tower of Terror.

General Comments:
Mickey was very good about staying quiet while you are in an attraction. I don't think you even can wake him up on purpose.

In D-MGM we stopped for a break outside at the end of the commisary building, and Pal Mickey went crazy. He kept going off and telling us that the lines were short at all the different attractions. We thought it might be because the parade was on, but we stopped there again later and he did the same thing. Weird. To keep him quiet, we covered his nose, and that seemed to do the trick.

We saw very few Pal Mickeys in the parks. It still is very new and all the cast members are curious too. Lots of times the cast members were asking questions. You get some funny looks from the general public, as they wonder why you are holding Mickey up to your ear and laughing.

We chose not to purchase Pal Mickey when we were done, but would probably rent him again on a park day. He does add a fun / new element. I expect that the next time we tour the parks, (probably about 16 months from now) Pal Mickey will be everywhere.

We bought Mickey last week. We decided to buy since CM's say that he will be constantly updated and new things added in time such as dinner reservation reminders, etc.

Only went to Epcot and MGM this trip and used him there. Only thing I remember from MGM is that he said line was short for ToT. In Epcot, sometimes it was annoying to stop and listen to him only to have Mickey tell you that in France you say bonjour for hello. I did learn something interesting in Canada - more dinasour bones have been found in Alberta than anywhere else in the world (and that's why Mickey can't bring Pluto on vacation there!).

All in all, I think Pal Mickey was a worthwhile investment for our next 39 years!

PS You often can't hear Pal Mickey when he first pipes up, but you can feel the vibration. I clipped him onto my bag and I could feel the vibration through the handles. And, yes, I did get some strange looks holding Mickey to my ear to hear him. I wonder if people thought he was a cell phone of sorts.

Edit -- Blizzard, I just saw that you were from Canada. I learned something about your country from Mickey!

Hi all,

Does anyone have a picture of this new Mickey??? My son would love him.

If you have a pic, would you please post it???

Thanks,
Frank

We also "borrowed" pal mickey for two days. The first day we took him to mgm, and he did vibrate as we walked around the park. However everytime you pressed his tummy he would only tell a joke. He did seem to work correctly around the tot, though (which he hates :D ). The only time he actually reported a short ride wait time in mgm was when we left the park. How useful...

The manager at the bc store let me try him again, so we took a new mickey to epcot the next day. He seemed to work a lot better than the first, but he still has some bugs. For instance, after you leave a ride, he goes silent for a long time. Even turning him off and on again many times didn't fix it. I figured the batteries had died, but he eventually woke up. When I was returning him, someone else in the store said the same thing about their pal mickey.

He did have something to say in every country, but he is difficult to hear so you have to hold him up to your ear. Also, I had problems getting him off of the belf hook, so I just ended up carrying him around.

These minor problems could be easily fixed, but I don't think pal mickey was really tested that much and was rushed to market. For example, you would think that mickey would be an expert about the parks, but last time I checked, "its a small world" wasn't in the animal kingdom. There were other mistakes like this for other parks, and I showed these to the store manager. She said she would relay the feedback, so we will see what actually happens.

All in all, I think I'll wait until pal mickey 2.0 is released to buy, but I would certainly recommend you do the free trial for yourself. I think he has a lot of potential, such as customizing him to report only info that care about. This, plus make him smaller and cut the price in half and you would have a very useful tool.

I'd like to see an alternative version of this technology, like maybe a set of ears on a headband. That way, adults or older kids don't feel so silly (not that I would) and since they're right there on your head, no problems being able to hear it. Perhaps in the future they'll offer additional versions?

I tried out Pal Mickey last Thursday. The guy at check in at BCV told us that the Pal Mickeys were NOT available at the hotel and only available at the parks. That was wrong as I learned. I knew I shouldn't have listened to him, lol. Anyway, I got him the next day at the resort (gift shop) and used him at Epcot.

We liked him. He told little facts about each country, most of which I didn't know, lol. He is hard to hear. I did not buy him. I'm also waiting for version 2.0 or something, lol. Cute though.

I purchased my Pal Mickey at Old Key West, using the coupon. I learned from the cast members in the gift shop there, that if you use the coupon to purchase him, then you get a discount on the purchase, instead of a free day's rental. I got to purchase him for $41.50, including tax and everything.

freediverdude,
I am planning a stay at the Contemp (cash, not points) this coming weekend and I am planning to buy a Pal Mickey--that coupons is a great deal! I was wondering where did you get the coupon? Did it come with your check-in materials when staying at a DVC property or is it on the web site?

TIA

We recently returned from VWL where we jumped on the "free rental" offer for Pal Mickey. Before the time expired we ended up buying our own. It was fun to hear interesting facts about attractions and rides. Pal Mickey even told me about something I never even knew existed (the otter exhibit at Animal Kingdom) even though I've been there countless times! His jokes, while sometimes corny, usually were themed to the area we were in...that was fun! :) Luckily he repeats himself if you squeeze him within 15 seconds because between the 4 of us we couldn't all hear him at once.
One of the best things about him, IMHO, is that he plays games and tells jokes even when he's not downloading information. That was wonderful as we waited for Fantasmic or for a parade to start. It gave us another option for entertaining the kids. And it melted our hearts when you'd squeeze his tummy and he'd say something warm and mushy "I just love spending the day with you, pal!" or "It's wonderful to be friends with you!" AWWWW
All in all, we love Pal Mickey (we ended up getting him for "free" as we had Christmas presents to return and they gave us store merchandise credit)

Dcfromva,

Yes, the coupon came stapled to the check-in folder that you get when you check into a DVC resort with points. So I'm not sure if you can get one or not, but what I would do is take the boat over to the Wilderness Lodge Villas from the Contemporary, and ask them over there if you can have a coupon and buy it there, showing your DVC member card. Yes I thought it was a great deal, and probably the only current discount available on Pal Mickey, unless you're a cast member or something.

Anyone know when they are running the free trial promotion until. I will be there mid July

Thanks
Sandy
