I've been reading a few posts and people have mentioned Pal Mickey. Can someone please explain what it is? I've not done WDW for 6 years now and DLP doesn't match up to the Magic in Florida so only been once there in 6 years.

Many Thanks

Lxx

And more.

The 50th Anniversary (current version) comes dressed in a tuxedo.
Thd older (original) version is dressed in the traditional "Mickey Mouse" red shorts outfit.

The older versions should be much lower in price than the 50th Anniv. PM's.

(Don't know about International shipping from these eBay listings.)

I'll be in NY in 6 weeks time so may see what my cousin can get me before that.

I have three of the older ones when they were cheep. I am so glad I did not pay full price. It is neat but mine never worked like advertised. He never told me facts about parade or low waits on rides. He did tell jokes but they were the same over and over. Maybe mine had something wrong with them but all three did the same thing. We are not bringing them in September. It is great to bring home but I only paid like $15-$20 can't remember now.

OK folks -- I have contemplated buying one of these little gems, but still wonder if it is worth it. For those who have one, let me know why you like yours so much. Once you get home, does Pal Mickey still talk? Give some details, please and thank you. :cheer2:

We bought one for our neice on our trip (Oct.05) and had a blast with it. My DW and I are taking PM back with us for our trip this Oct.

He really does work as advertised and we just love him.

I bought one for my boyfriend and I when we went in 2004 and we loved it. And we are 20, they are a ball. :thumbsup2

I have the original version of Pal Mickey and love it. He gives fun facts around the parks. My kids love to hear his jokes and even listen to them at home. I am thinking about getting the new version also, although there are rumors of a newer version coming out.

1. He's Mickey.

2. He's small and "cuddly".

3. He talks in the parks about the attractions and events, tells "groaner" jokes* kids love, and plays a couple of simple games.

4. At home, he still tells the jokes and plays the games.

5. See #1.

-----------
* "Say Pal, why did Goofy throw the clock out the window?
... He wanted to see time fly! (Mickey laugh)".

I think I know what I am buying when at WDW!

Last night I actually dreamed I was at the Emporium and one of the CM's got my Pal Mickey dressed up in some period costume (1776 to be exact). Don't ask me where that came from. :confused3

I gotta stop playing on the Dis Board before I go to bed! :rotfl2:

We bought my son a Pal Mickey when we went in February. Mickey helped us get many character photo opportunities that we wouldn't have known about without him. However, my son did get tired of hauling him around. I had to keep after him not to leave Mickey in the room.

Yep. Carrying ANYTHING can get tiresome at WDW.

I look forward to the new "Pal Mickey Earphone" likely on the Disney "drawing board" as we speak.

Then every kid will look like he is talking to his broker on a Bluetooth connection. :goodvibes

We have a Pal Mickey that we bought in 2004. For whatever reason we did not use him when we went in 2005. We will be there Dec this year and I would love to use him. Does anyone know if he updates and if so how? :confused3

He will still work perfectly in the parks.

Be SURE to put a BRAND NEW set of ALKALINE BATTERIES in your Pal at the beginning of the trip (he takes 3 each of "AA") and take a new set of SPARE batteries, just in case.

There is no need for a special update, as he picks up the current information for a given park as you are entering with him (and at the many hidden IR "transmitters" installed throughout the park).

The "classic" Pal won't "know or talk about" EE, Soarin' or any other attractions that may have been opened since he was built, but that leaves 99% or so of them that he DOES talk about.

If for any reason he does NOT "giggle, vibrate and talk" throughout any of the parks, you can take him in for a quick "refresh" at the MAIN STREET CINEMA (across from the Emporium in the MK). This is the central Pal Mickey "headquarters" for WDW.

Again, you should not NEED to do this if your Pal is behaving normally... by frequently vibrating, giggling, and telling you Disney info and corny jokes.

:thanks: My mom will get a kick out of him. We enjoyed him the first year. However we did have a hard time hearing him. We carried him at waist level so maybe that was the problem.

A neck lanyard is the method they offered for the newer "50th Anniv." Pal Mickeys.
(They even gave us one free (limited offer, last year) for our old Pal.)

But I always clipped him to my shirt collar (at the "V" of the neck).
He's a bit heavy, but I managed over MANY days of many trips to do this.)

I can then just lift him to my ear and I can hear him perfectly.
(If another person in your party wants to hear the info or joke, PM will REPEAT the same message up to 5 times in a row if you just re-squeezing hand or tummy at the end of that message.)

If you want, you can go to a local store that carries inexpensive neck lanyards and buy one to attach to your Pal.

The newer "50th Anniv." Pal Mickeys do reportedly have a louder "voice".

I'm also anticipating a NEWER version (V3) of PM to be released very soon, as the "50th Anniv." will be over at the end of October this year.
That would mean the the "50th Anniv." Pals would likely get shipped to the Disney "Outlets" and be sold at a very reduced price. That's what happened the last time.
