I am leaving next week for the first time in many years and it is DH and DD's first trip. I am trying to decide whether to buy the PAL MICKEY for $72.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

We have the first version (not the "50th Anniversary" Edition) and he has made at least 8 trips with us to WDW.
We have fun carrying him with us to the parks at least on the first times we visit them each trip.

I'm not sure of course, but with the "50th Anniversary" winding down by this Fall, they might be planning a new version of Pal Mickey.

If they DO... this is what I's like him to be able to do:

-Dispense Fast Passes.

-Make meal reservations 30 minutes in advance.

-Fire his own Buzz Lightyear Laser blasts (extra points if you hit Emperor Zurg).

-Clear an extra-wide space on Main Street for parade-viewing 10 minutes before start-time.

-Provide instant access to ride in the monorail operator's cabin.

-Grab the attention of the CM in charge of finding "Honorary Parade Marshall Families."

-Locate "front and center" last-minute seating at Fantasmic! (on nights when the wind is blowing AWAY from the audience).

-Provide speedy half-empty bus-trips to your resort (at closing time) from all parks.

-Escort you to the mostly empty "E-Ticket" attractions at evening EMH's.

-And make ANY mug a "free refills for your entire stay" mug that works in any WDW establishment.

Now, THATS a Pal Mickey!

We are going in January 07 and are getting one for our boys to share. We carry a backpack with us though so if the boys get tired of carring him he can go in there. From the photo's I have seen, he's fairly small, I think I read 11 inches.

I think he'd make a cool take home toy too. Apparently away from the parks you can still have him on and he plays games.

Have a fun trip!!!

I like taking him out every once in a while at home and hearing his corny jokes and such. I didn't always like carrying him around the parks, but was okay if could put him in the backpack for a while. He shakes everytime he wants to say something and when we were commandoing around the park he was constantly shaking!

He's really cute. He was a lot easier to purchase when he was $40. At $72, it's more of an "ouch" but I'd probably still bite the bullet and do it -- might have to buy another if they've changed him significantly!

I loved having pal in the parks, I don't think I paid $72 for him, I bought the special edition pal last summer, maybe I did pay that much and just blocked it from my memory. That happens a lot with my vacation spending.

However, at home I have to shut him off, because all he does is buzzes. Is there something special you have to do to make him work at home? I thought he was broken so I exchanged him on my next visit. Sure enough when I got home, the new one just buzzed like the other one.

Help! I'm soooo confused. :confused3

I agree with Robo.

These features are a MUST for any future pal mickey designs.

Although this might create some hard feelings between current Pal Mickeys and their owners.

What do you mean you can't get last minute ADR's for Cinderella's Royal Table? What kind of pal are you?

DD and her new husband went to WDW for their honeymoon. She gave him a Pal Mickey as a wedding gift (He loves anything electronic) They both said that they enjoyed it very much.

I'm thinking of getting one for my next trip with the younger kids - 11 and 14.
I hope I don't have to choose between that and photo pass cd. I just thought of his as I was typing - We are going on the 27th. Kids will not be with us until 26 so we are having a "delayed Christmas" and the Disney Trip is a complete surprise. Wouldn't a Pal Disney be a great gift to tell them the surprise with? Can you mail order them?

Hmm....that's very strange. He should tell jokes, play games, and sing even once he's gone from the world. :confused3

Yes, you can have Disney Merchandising ship you a Pal Mickey if you would like. You can also get them on ebay, but the new ones don't seem to be much of a deal.

This is interesting I had thought about getting one on our upcoming trip. What exactly does he do? Does anyone have any pictures.

I just saw a Pal Mickey on Ebay..in box...buy it now $17.99 although one little problem...he speaks Spanish :rotfl:
really.... Looks like the "english" ones are currently $45 add in the shipping and you're better off with a new one!!

I wish I knew spanish..I always want to say that monorail saying..
porfavor montage si alehados de las prentas.. :rotfl: I really messed that up!
supposed to say "please stand clear of the doors"

:earsboy: :mickeyjum pal mickey tells you information about most of the rides and attractions he vibrates whenever he has something to say and you squeeze him and he tells you information he will also tell you what time parades and shows start. he is pretty cool

Pal Mickey is OK. I got one on my honeymoon, but he hasn't come back to WDW with me since. And at home, he just sits around collecting dust.

For me, the minimalist that I am, carrying him around got cumbersome. He was really cute to listen to though...but once was enough for me.

They're $72 now?? Jiminy!

No, not "Jiminy"... MICKEY.

(But Jiminy does host Spectgromagic and Wishes.)

:goodvibes

and I paid just over $40 including shipping. He's the original - I didn't care enough about the 50th anniversary "upgrades" to justify $65 (at the time) on one. If you want the 50th anniv. version, then yes, you'll pay close to full price even on eBay. But if you don't mind the original version, you can still find a great deal there!

My bf and I love our Pal Mickey! He was lots of fun! I highly recommend him

When my Mom & Dad went with the younger kids last year, after bf&I came home, we let them bring him down and they said he didnt do as much as he did for us. Not sure why. He told us several times when the line for Pooh and Buzz was short-that was cool since we did use his advice at least once or twice for that. Also he told us when "himself" and his friends would be out in front odf the castle. That was awesome! He told us many other interesting little facts and I thoguht it was REALLY cute when he got scared of some of the rides like the HM. Definatly a plus to our trip.

I love my Pal Mickey. We've taken him on two trips. We bought the original one and they let us upgrade to the anniversary one. He gives neat bits of information when you pass through the different countries in Epcot and lets you know when parades are starting and lines are short for certain rides.

We bought an older Pal Mickey on ebay before our last trip. He's cute, but REALLY hard to hear in the parks. The facts were cute.

I had the old pal mickey and now the new one too.
I love them both...so cute.
If I don't want to hold them anymore I just put him in my backpack.

To the person who posted about the shaking...
Both mine do that too and in on my last trip I brought it to the World and asked them what was wrong with it.
They just told me he needed new batteries
That's it....just batteries and the shaking stops!

Hope I helped
