Can you purchase Pal Mickey before you arrive in Disney? Thought it would be a cute gift for my 2 1/2 year old in preparation for the upcoming vacation to Disney?

Many of the PM listings on Ebay are for the "older" version of Pal Mickey (its the one I own) and he's still a fun "pal".
You can tell if its a "new version" PM if he comes dressed in a TUXEDO JACKET.
The main difference is that the newer ("50 Anniversary") PM's are a little bit improved for audio volume and they "know about" a few more of the newer attractions than the older (I call "Classic") PM's.
If you'd like, you can order a new PM from WDW Merchandising at:

Definately NOT true.
This rumor got started by folks who confused getting an "maufunctioning" older PM "rebooted" at the Pal Mickey shop on Main Street (MK)... with getting him "updated" to the latest version.
I actually had this process done to my "classic" PM... he woke up feelling much better (and a lot more talkative), but he was still my "old" buddy (and not a "new" pal.)
So, no, the "classic" PM can't be "updated" into a "new" PM.
OP, I bought an e-bay Pal Mickey for my trip last year and we love him still. My girls are 9 and 2 1/2. I let them play with him (for a short time) before our trip, he plays games, tells jokes - over and over again! and once started talking about being inside one of the Disney parks! I quickly grabbed him from my little one who was sucking on his nose making him short-circuit. He returned to normal once he dried off.
I wanted the 9 yr old to be surprised when Mickey started telling her about things in the parks. She was! And she listened to him, more than to her parents. Pal sounds very loud while at home but it is much harder to hear him talk while in the parks. I was surprised to find how loud all the background music is, plus crowd noise, plus riders screaming from fun/wild rides.....
DD2 has Mickey tucked away in a nice snuggly bed right now and will carry him around when I let her (I'll hide him away again soon I have to keep him in good shape for our next trip)
Thanks Robo. It did seem too god to be true. Guess it takes $65 to have him updated. Anyone have both and notice a huge difference between them. Wondering if it is worth buying the newer version.
