We're returning for our first anniversary in May (honeymooned there last year), and we're planning on bringing our Pal Mickey. However, we haven't heard much about him lately. Are they still selling/utilizing him, and if so, have they changed any of things he says? Thanks!!! :mickeybar

I don't know what has changed, but I am fairly certain they do still sell him on WDW Property... I tried to get pick one up at the Disney Store, and was not succesful.

A new pal mickey will be coming out with additional outfits for the 50th celebration. As far as the original, DSIS was told to point the noise down when going through the turnstiles and mickey will automatically update. Susan

We were told to have Mickey's nose pointing outward when we go through gates as well as when we were walking through the parks.

Any info on the new 50th anniv. PAL Mickey? When will it be available? I'll be there early June and would love the oppotunity to get my hands on one!

We're also returning to the World later this year and have the original Pal Mickey. Regarding updates, have people actually heard Mickey saying new things or is it the same spiel as in the past? We have fun with him either way but would be looking forward to some new stuff/insight.

Thanks and everyone enjoy your trips and Disney experiences!!

I understand that the new Pal Mickey will be available when the 50th anniversary begins in May.

Where does this information (that Pal can be updated) come from.

What is meant by "update".

I used to believe that Pal Mickey was capable of having new information loaded into him via an update.
I had read on some posts (somewhere on this discussion board) that one could request updates when visiting the parks, and I requested such an update, and supposedly got one.
But I now think that I got only a reset.

A source that I trust tells me that Pal Mickey can not have new information loaded into him. He can only be reset.
I am not certain what to believe.
However, I know that my Pal (version 1.0), did NOT get the most important (to me) new feature, from 1.1, when he had his nose placed on the update (or reset) machine in December.
He still has the same feature (or bug) that he has always had.

He did seem as if he had new jokes, but those could have been inside him already, and for some reason were never triggered until I went to the parks. These are not the park specific jokes, but jokes that remained in my Pal, after having him reset, and after leaving the parks.

By an update, do we mean that Pal now knows he is in the park?
I know there is a transmitter, that triggers something in him, when he enters the park. Is this what we mean by an update, that Pal had something inside him triggered, so his state changed?
Or do we mean that Pal actually got new information, that may not have been inside him the last time he visited.

According to CM's at Disney....there will be a new Pal Mickey out for the 50th anniversary (irked, cause we just bought ours last minth) sigh! I can answer questions if you have them. Remember that to make Mickey recognize the park he has to be turned off and then on again inside each park.

I didn't have to turn my Pal off and on again, for each park.
I turned him off at the end of the day (to conserve battery power), but not between parks.

You might be able to sell your old Pal on eBay, especially if he is version 1.1 and not 1.0, and you can get him sold before the new version comes out.
Even version 1.0 has been selling really well for higher then I think is reasonable for electonic technology that is over 2 years old.
I think that most buyers either don't know that a new version is coming out in May, or don't care. I also think many buyers don't realize that they are not getting the current version when they buy version 1.0.
You may find that you recover over 75% of your cost.

What is the difference between the 1.0 version and the 1.1? I hadn't realized another version had come out. I purchased mine during the first weeks when he first came out, so I'm sure I have 1.0. Is it something that's real significant, or just a minor fix? I'm also interested to find out if this new one coming out in May will say/have more functions than the current ones, or whether it will be a current one just with new clothes.

According to my source (who is a cast member and has looked into the subject) 1.1 has some new jokes and attractions and one new very nice feature (or bug fix depending on the point of view).
My favorite improvement is his cue that he is no longer in the park, which prevents him from repeating the same joke over and over while in joke mode (and out of the park). He will still repeat things, when inside the park, and he is squeezed.
My 1.0 repeats the same joke, unless I wait a while between jokes (this seems like a long wait although I am certain it is under a minute).
This is a side effect of the useful feature, where Pal will repeat what he last said if squeezed soon after saying something.
With 1.1, if he knows you are not in a park, you can press his hand immediately after a joke and he will tell a new one.

The 1.1 version has a black electronic housing box, 1.0 has a white box.

I don't know exactly what attractions are in 1.1 and not in 1.0
I only have 1.0.

Version 2.0 has:
increased voice volume

6 games

many jokes replaced by trivia, and some new attractions. (25% of content updated).

He interacts with the glow medallions (I don't know what these are)

7 sing-alongs (This might make my old Pal jealous and might even make my interactive Stitch jealous)

He also comes in a removable tux.
More outfits (Safari, pin trading outfit, tourist outfit and Poncho) will be available later in the Summer.

I think that Disney should sell Pal sized waterproof bags (That Pal can see through), near all of the water rides.

When I go in May, I plan to carry all three versions with me, and observe the differences.

Wow, it does sound like 2.0 will have a bunch of new stuff. I guess I'll have to get that one then. I'm not sure if I would like the 1.1, because I liked being able to squeeze his hand again if I missed something he said. I'm not sure I'll like the increased voice volume in 2.0, I think the current version for me has a good level, where I can hear him if he's right next to me, except maybe if in a really loud crowd, but it doesn't become really bothersome or annoying for others. I agree that that interactive Stitch that they sold is a really awesome toy. I have one, but I haven't seen them recently- don't know if they still sell those. I think in those loud stores, I often saw kids squeeze his paw and not be able to hear him, and they thought he wasn't working. I had never seen a toy like that before, where he could talk back to you with appropriate phrases. They also did a much better job making that Stitch look like the Stitch in the movie, than they did with the regular plush Stitches. I don't think a lot of people knew how this Stitch works and how interactive he is. I didn't myself, until a lady was in Mousegear demonstrating him to me, and before I knew it, I had one in my hand and was walking to the register! Even several male cashiers started playing with him, and were talking about buying one, guys you normally wouldn't think would be caught dead with a plush in their hands.

Hi,

With the version 1.1; You can squeeze his hand again, if you missed something, and he will repeat.
However, when you exit the park, it turns this feature off, so you don't have to listen to the same joke over and over, when outside the park.

My Nephew (who turns 21 today), and I were in the Disney store together, and fell in love with this Stitch. The difference in our personalities, is that he usually keeps his Stitch in a bad mood, and I keep mine in a good mood.
Maybe even with the sing-a-longs Pal Mickey won't be as much fun as Stitch.

- Eileen

Well I'll see how this new Pal Mickey measures up to the Stitch. I think I'll like buying the different clothes for him, like the poncho or pin trading outfit, hehe. Yes, I thought it was especially creative that Stitch could be in that bad mood, where he says the nasty things, like if you say "Are you hungry?", he can say "Not anymore, I ate YOUR dinner! BURP!", or he could be a little angel and say "Ooooh, coconut cake and coffee, please!"

I am looking forward to the poncho, if it is waterproof.
The rain gear I made for my Pal is water resistant not water proof. I worried about him, during the rain storms, and on the ride down Splash.

There is a picture of my Pal (and other People's dressed up Pals) at
www.palmickey.net (click on photos).

Some of us didn't wait for Disney to come out with clothing. We found (or in my case sewed) clothing for him.

I remember a time when the neigbor kids (that I was watching) thought they had broken my stitich.
Wayne (8 year old boy) came to tell me that Mandy (6 year old girl) had broken my Stitch. It turned out that Stitch had been put in a bad mood, so he sang in a voice, that did sort of make him sound broken.

- Eileen

Oooh, what cute Mickeys! Wow, I can't believe you made your own clothes. I can sew a button on, but that's about it. When it rains or I'm going on a water ride, I usually have a gift shop bag that I put him inside during the ride. I think he likes to hide in there during the water rides. Yes, that song that Stitch sings when he's in the bad mood, it's supposed to be him burping the song instead of singing it, hehe.
