Hi. I'm interested in buying a Pal Mickey. I've heard that it's possible to save money by buying one on eBay. However, I've also heard that there are older models and newer models. My questions:

1. How can I tell an older model from a newer model?

2. Do the older ones have the same functionality as the newer ones?

3. Can these units get receive content when in the parks, or can they only say what was programmed in when thye were manufactured?

4. Is it a good idea to get one of these in advance on eBay?

Hi. I'm interested in buying a Pal Mickey. I've heard that it's possible to save money by buying one on eBay. However, I've also heard that there are older models and newer models. My questions:

1. How can I tell an older model from a newer model? The newer model Mickey has a tuxedo, the older one just the normal mickey attire

2. Do the older ones have the same functionality as the newer ones? I think the newer ones may play more games but I am not positive on this.

3. Can these units get receive content when in the parks, or can they only say what was programmed in when thye were manufactured? PM is interactive, if he is in the park and he is on Main Street he may tell you the parade is at 3:00, if he is near an attraction he may tell you something about the attraction etc etc. At any time you can press his hand and he can play games or tell you a joke.

4. Is it a good idea to get one of these in advance on eBay? I guess that is your call, I think new ones are $65, I saw the older models on sale at the Cast store for about $30...I am going next week if you send me an email I can take a look at if I see any on sale, my email address is tearawayface@gmail.com

I don't think I phrased my question properly. Sorry.

There are two possible ways for Pal Mickey to work. (1) He can have all his sayings and information stored inside him. Then, the transmissions he receives when in the park simply tell him which sayings to play at which times. (2) The transmitters in the parks can transmit to Mickey the actual things he says.

I would like it to be #2 because that would make Pal Mickey much more versatile and useful over a longer period of time. However, I suspect it's #1.

We picked up the last year's version new from the Character Warehouse for $13.99 plus shipping. I believe they still have them 'cause a friend of mine said she just got one for their upcoming trip. The difference between old and new is the outfit (tuxedo), the new one is louder, has a better belt clip/lanyard combo, plays more games, has more jokes and sayings and has information on the newer attractions that opened recently.

Anyway, we'll use ours for the first time in a couple of weeks but from what I understand the answer to your #3 question is 1. When you enter the park information is "downloaded" to Mickey about times of shows and attractions. I am sure all the possible things he says is stored on a his chip but the information downloaded kicks off the correct sayings (like the actual parade time that day)...

It's a shame it's not #2. Mickey would be much more versatile that way. If it's #1, Mickey will get obsolete quickly. Oh well.

Pal Mickey sounds like a lot of fun to me, so I might get one for my next trip. I just have to figure out if my desire for this outweighs my self-consciousness about walking around with one of these as an adult with no kid in sight.
