My family is going on an almost magical gathering(7 people) in a couple of days and we have a pal mickey question. We have an older version of pal mickey and we are wondering if there is still a trade in option for the newer version. Also, i have an ap and i was wondering if there is any discount for pal mickey. All help is greatly appreciated!!

From the "News" link on palmickey.net

QUOTE:
Note About Older Versions of Pal Mickey: Due to the misinformation on certain message boards, I called the Main Street Cinema at the Magic Kingdom to verify. Cast Member John has CONFIRMED that the older Pal Mickey (any version prior to the HCOE version) can only be "updated" with the park's daily information (parade and show times, etc. - as stated in the instruction booklet) and can NOT be "updated" in any other way. In reality, their use of the term "updating" means to "re-set" him to enable him to receive signals from the emitters and to properly respond. However, the older Pal Mickeys can NOT be made to provide information on any of the newer attractions (Soarin', LMA, Everest, etc.), or to have the latest features (singing, louder voice, new games, trivia, interacting with the Glow medallion). These are the facts. I hate to see people buying the original at a huge discount and being disappointed that he won't do what they thought. The original Pal can still be fun (both of mine "do the parks" together often), but has limited capabilities.

If you have an older Pal and would like to "trade up" to a new one, you can at this time do that at the Main Street Cinema for $40 with your trade in. They did not have that offer when the new Pal first came out, but I am sure this will be for a "limited time only."

NOTE: I don't know if the "trade in" offer is STILL valid as this info has been posted for quite a while.

If you want an AP Discount I beleive that is only at DTD (10%).
Pal Mickey IS available at DTD.

We have a Pal Mickey and would not waste our money on him again. We had to exchange him several times because he just wasn't working. The only park he worked in was Animal Kingdom. Have to admit, he was cool when he was working though.

This is the first time I ever read a post from anyone whose PM did not WORK (even after an exchange).

I know of people who grew tired of carrying him, or who thought the "original" version spoke too softly, or wanted him to say "more things"... but never once heard a tale of a PM not working and not getting a working replacement or an electronic "re-set" at the Pal Mickey Store on Main Street.

I would never be resigned to owning a defective Pal Mickey.
Disney is very accommodating when it comes to making things like this "right."

As the owner of the "original" version PM -wearing the red shorts- (right after they were introduced) and one who still takes him to the parks with me after many WDW trips since he was new, I would say he's been a pretty good "Pal" for us.

just returned from a trip with our "classic" Pal Mickey and he worked without a problem for us. Leaning towards getting a new one during the next trip.

the Glow medallion

We just bought PM this past week at WDW, but I haven't read his book. What's the glow medallion?

Its an item that has long-since been sold-out.

It was a HCOE lighted "charm" that would activate when "cued" by a HCOE Pal Mickey.
