Pal Mickey (& Friends) Adventures & Fashions

Hello all you Pal Mickey Lovers. I have a quick question. I am working my way backward through this thread (thank you guiltymom since your trippie - or maybe pre-trippie directed me here). Anyway, I am really excited to start outfitting my Pal Mickey and was wondering if any adventures are welcome? We are going to SD to walk on the Crazy Horse Mountain in June and I was thinking Pal Mick could take the trip with us for fun (and secretly so I could make him outfits).

My sister and I used to do something similar to this. We had a pre-kid habit of meeting in Vegas since it was half way between Idaho and Oklahoma (even if it isn't we choose to believe it is). We had a bear we won on our first girls trip and we named him Vegas Bear and would document his adventures in much the same way y'all do with your Pal Mickey's. Very cool idea.

Any time we can take our PMs along on a trip is great. We wanna see pictures.

Yes - we love pictures! I'm bringing Mick to a Washington Nationals game in a few weeks. He'll be all decked out, of course!

Then he'll be going to Utah and California, too. DH will continue to think I'm nuts for bringing him with us, but even without the feed from the Parks, he'll be a good companion for the kids with all those jokes & songs. :)

MNRMommy - welcome to one of our Disney addicti.............oh I mean threads!

As you have no doubt read here, we all have outfits to change the little guy into for his many adventures. I have a friend who sews beautifully and she offered to make Pal a new outfit for the May trip. (She made him a stunning tuxedo for meeting the captain on his 2007 Disney Magic cruise, as well as several other neat outfits.)

So yes take your little guy on non-Disney trips - he makes for unusual photo ops.

We love, love, love  all adventures and fashions of all the Pal Mickey cousins and any of their friends. As you get back to the beginning of the thread, you'll see this started with a couple of Pal Mickey's travelling across the states visiting DISboards friends. We got to see lots of their adventures. I look forward to seeing your Pal's adventures.

Ricky has just returned home from bear74's. He came home so that he can go off to see my niece and nephew and help them prepare for our trip in June! They loved Nicky when I was down there last month so I know that they will love Ricky. I'll post pictures of Ricky before he heads off on his next adventure.

I just stumbled onto this thread looking for information on getting a Pal Mickey. I got 2 about 3 years ago. Someone posted that they were about $27 for an outdated Pal Mickey. Well, my DS5 at the time must have put him down and lost him in Disney. I called for a few days to lost and found (they have too many lost and founds!!) and noone turned him in. We are going again in August and now he is asking for another one. Does anyone know where they might have last year's Pal Mickey for a discounted rate??

Thanks - Lori

In the past Pal Mickeys were found cheap through the Character Premiere Outlet at 407-354-3255, another Character Premiere location at 407-477-0222 or Character Warehouse at 407-354-5285

Another option is eBay, sometimes you can find a good price there.

Good luck in your search.

And you may want to sew a tag to him with your cell # on it, just in case he gets lost again. Even better - buy him a bear sweater or vest, then sew inside or tuck inside pinned to a ribbon - a tag. It could even be as simple as one of those paper tags with elastic that airlines have you place on luggage. "If lost, please call my owner at XXX XXX-XXXX".

I feel your pain. Our first Pal Mickey was lost similarly at Disney. DD left him on a ride. I had been pretty good about making sure he exited with us but it only takes one time and he is gone. We too tried lost and found several times during the remainder of our trip but he never showed up. I like DisGal's advice on the phone number. Hey I get the kids dog tags with my cell on it so why not PM? Lucky for us DH took pity on us and got us another one. But, it is kind of like a dog. Getting a puppy doesn't make you miss the old dog any less.

Quiltymom, did you use a pattern for the Chef Mickey outfit? I am a so so sewer but my mom is top notch and has agreed to try to make such an outfit for our Pal. But if you used a pattern it would help her get started.

Thanks!!

I made the pattern, but here's what I did. and I hope that it makes sense!
  1. I took the jacket that came with Mick and traced the parts, adding a 1/4" seam allowance to each side. That gave me a basic pattern to work from.
  2. I then adapted the pattern by making the front and back longer & straighter so that it would be a closer match to the boxy jacket.
  3. I then added an overlap to the front. You just mark center front on the pattern piece, then extend the piece until you receive the overlap that you want. Does that make sense?

ETA: for the collar, it won't go all around the neckline since his he doesn't really have a neck. You will have a lot of room (about an inch?) from the end of the collar to the front end of the shirt.

I also made self-facings to the jacket front. The easiest way to do this is to fold back some the pattern paper along the front edge and double the pattern itself. The clothes are so small that having the front self-faced makes the sewing a lot easier.

For the pants, I just guessed and did a sample until I got it right. I just measured him around the waist, made a front and back piece that were basically the same, being sure to mark the back for the velcro opening, and being sure to leave enough room for his tail to come through. The pants will be very high-waisted since you gotta cover up his red shorts. At least that's what I did.

ETA: I don't make waistbands for the pants/shorts - I just fold the fabric under and edge stitch. No one's gonna see his waistband unless he's going swimming - then I'd use elastic for the swim shorts.

I just used either snaps or velcro for the closings of both the shirts and pants. I found that using velcro was much easier to manage when dressing Mick. But if the thought of using velcro doesn't work for you, then snaps will work just fine. I just hate sewing the little things on!

From these basic shirt and pant patterns I was able to adapt them for shorts, short sleeves, etc. And I got the buttons from the button racks in the notions section at JoAnn's. They're labled "doll buttons".

For the hat I just used a bread-and-butter plate for the pattern and sewed gathering stitches around the end. I then cut a rectangular strip of fabric, sewed the short ends together, turned it in half right side out, then gathered the circle to fit. I used black cord elastic to make loops to hold the hat onto his head. If you make the loops too loose, then the hat will flop around.

I'd try to scan the patterns for you, but ever since I cleaned my sewing area I can't seem to find a thing that I need. It serves me right to be neat! :lmao:

I hope that this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

One of the ladies on here bought American Girl Doll patterns and shrank them by a certain percentage. I don't remember what the percentage was or the person that did it. I'm thinking it might have been Mrs. Potato Head.

I went out yesterday to get some fabrics to start making some killer duds for Pal. Anyway, while at Walmart I picked up some of those really adorable puppy slippers that my DS saw on here and really really wanted (I wanted the bunnies but I lost to two very cute little faces i.e DS & DD begging with pouty faces for puppies so oh well). Anyway, they also had the baby croc like shoes on sale so I scooped up the only size 3 they had (because 3 was the smallest not because anyone told me to get a 3). They are black. We would have rather had red but the red 4's were quite a bit bigger than black 3's. Well I brought them home and shoved my Pals feet into them and they are very cute and quite snug. But being the worrier I am are they snug enough? Do you guys find any problem with losing the crocs when walking around the park? Do you do anything to make them more snug? Are y'alls size 3? I worry sorry. Any advice appreciated.

Yesterday Mick went to his first Washington Nationals game. He was very excited about this day, especially since he could wear his Nats stuff. It was fun going to be at the new Nationals Park for the first time, too.

We took the Metro down (sorry - for some reason those pics didn't turn out!). We were amazed at how smoothly the process went. We were not expecting that there would be so many trains available on a Sunday, but the ride to and from was great.

Here is the view from the park as we exited the Metro:

It was a rather cold and gloomy day considering that it was bright & sunny and 84 degrees the day before. All we were hoping for is that it wouldn't rain on us!

Here's the entrance:

We went in, got our seats...

...and waited for the game to begin.

Nice view, huh?

They were playing the Chicago Cubs.

Sweetie Girl just loves Mick!

But after a while Mick got a bit lonely, so Sweetie Girl, Mick and I headed on down to the Build a Bear Workshop to find him a new friend.

And what did we see? A whole bin of Screech's, the Nat's official mascot. Sweetie Girl decided that she "needed" to adopt one for herself. ;)

While we were waiting in line we saw some other characters - do you recognize any of them?

286484869_hyhHb-M-1.jpg

(hint: their first names are George, Abe & Tom.)

Then it was our time at the stuffing machine. We made sure to put in the "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" song in him, too. He wouldn't be complete without it!

Doesn't this look like it hurt?

Screech got sewn up, then he was all done!

Then it was back to the baseball game! We picked up a foam finger for both Mick and Screech, just to help them get into the spirit of the game.

The Nats won - Yay! - and it was time to head on home. Once we got there Mick just had to show off his new slippers! Aren't they cute?

The next baseball game we go to will be Dodger Stadium, and Mick will be ready to bleed Dodger Blue!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Humm... I wonder if they have a Build a Bear Workshop there, too? :scratchin We can only hope so!

I missed this earlier. I usually buy size 2's. I've been known to buy size 1's and squish his little feet into them if they don't have a size 2. He doesn't wear his shoes while we are in the parks. He only wears them when he goes on short trips because I dont want him to lose them.

wow that is so cool lol i should start dressing mine up like that!!!!:cool1:

You definitely should!!! We love new Pal Mickey & Friends lovers. My Pal is going with me to Disney on Friday. He is busy trying to figure out what to take. His brother is visiting my niece & nephew who will also be coming with us on this trip so there will be two Pal's visiting together at Disney. Nicky can't wait to see Ricky!
