Pal Mickey Does he still work?

I have an old Pal Mickey we've had for at least 4 years. Will he still work in the park? He was hard to hear but fun to carry around. I always ended up with him & don't mind carrying Mickey around if he still works.

Yup! Huge Pal fan. He comes every trip!

Just brought ours this past Oct. He is from Oct 2004 and still worked wonderfully. Just be sure to have fresh batteries in him when you go.

He should still work fine.

Make sure he has a brand new set of AA batteries (Alkaline or better) before you take him into the park.

I heard that sometimes you may have to take him to a CM or something and have them updated. I would like to know exactly where because I am taking one I just bought with me and want to make sure he is working good. BTW...those little suckers are going for big bucks on ebay!! I got mine there for a nice pretty penny!! Actually MANY, MANY pretty pennies

1- Pal Mickeys have never been able to be updated.
That was a rumor that simply wouldn't die.
If the Pal was malfunctioning, he could be "re-started/re-booted" by certain CM's in MK and DHS
using a special small computer which was connected to an infrared pod... that sent
coded signals to Pal Mickey's internal computer processor chip, through an IR sensor in Pal's nose. (No, I'm not making this up, )

2- I doubt that you'll need to have this done.
Most Pal's simply WORK as they are supposed to, year after year.
If your Pal does NOT work, I don't know if anyplace at WDW still has the
proper apparatus to perform the reboot.
Best chance, ask at MK's Emporium
or at DHS's photo store next to Oscar's Service Station near the front of the park.

1- They are being replaced by newer "cell phone/smart phone" information about the parks.

Mine worked fine at Christmas and is being packed for our trip in a few weeks. He is quite talkative and still fun. We had so many people at Christmas ask us what Pal Mickey was and where they could get one.

However, be careful with Pal Mickey. I had a few people try and take him. One guy kept following me and apparently caught the attention of security. Keep him close and attached.

That's scary. He probably knows how much they are going for on Ebay, and he saw dollar signs.

Glad to hear he still works. My daughter's is on a shelf in her room ready for our next trip.

Thank You for this post. We got one in 2008 and I was wondering if he would still work, as we plan on taking him this year. Glad to hear all the positive responses.
