Pal Mickey being discontinued!

It is sad to hear about PM being discontinued. Both my girls love theirs, and they were planning on getting different clothes for theirs each time we come to the World. However, like one poster had mentioned, maybe they are discontinuing PM for something different. Aren't they testing out something with Kim Possible in Epcot, or at least going to start testing it out? Wasn't it sort of like a treasure hunt? Maybe they are expecting this to go very well and are in the plans to making something similar for each of the different parks. Not sure, but I always thought that PM was very popular with the guests....but of course I could be wrong.

It is ALWAYS the same info.
The phrases PM says were pre-recorded in your Pal when he was built.

The "sensors" (transmitters, really) at the parks only "trigger" the Pal for WHEN to say which pre-recorded info track.

(Think of it like the sensor telling an iPod or CD which track to play and when.)

That's why a Pal doesn't "know about" attractions that were not finished (or at least planned) before he was manufactured.

The info on parades and character meets and ride queues is also pre-recorded.
When to say those kind of phrases are "triggered" as well.

Thanks for the info. I obviously don't know much about PM. I saw a used one for sale one time and the seller was advertising that it would alert you to the ride times as well as telling jokes and information. I guess from that I had imagined it to be like a series of short range radio stations programmed throughout the park to give you info as you pass them. I guess the seller was a bit confused too.

I don't care that Pal MIckey is being discontinued, but it is rather silly that you can still use him, but they won't sell him. Seems like the most expensive part will be the upkeep.

There would be very little upkeep to manage.

The system of transmitters would be very reliable, having no moving parts to wear out.

And, their infrared LED's don't burn out.
