Paking cubes worth the $$$?

also our luggage is pretty close to the 50 lb limit. I am afraid using the packing cubes will put us over the top.

But I may try them. LOL what brand does everyone have? which ones do you like? I know ebags has them. Is there anyone else who makes good one?

Thanks

I have ones from eBags. I got them on clearance a couple of years ago. They are very lightweight nylon. It they weighed an ounce, I'd be surprised.

yes they are very light weight. i have four different sets that, when not in use, i fold and store in one medium sized one. wouldn't weight 4 ounces i'm sure.

I also have the ones from ebags. Very light and keeps everything organized in my hard side suitcase that has no pockets.

I love packing cubes! I had never used them before, but when I bought new luggage last year the set came with 2 bonus mesh packing cubes. It is amazing how much stuff you can fit in a suitcase by using them! I just picked up a couple of sets at Ikea for about $7.

They work great!
Thank you so much for the link and info. DH was just saying the other day that he wanted to go back to ikea I will be buying a set of packing cubes while there. I bought 2 sets from ebags a couple of months ago but have not used them yet. Was planning on getting a 3rd set from ebags and by the time I decided their sale and the promo code I had was no longer good. DH and I are planning a few quick close by trips when this weather breaks.

I tend to use mesh zipper bags instead of packing cubes. Much less expensive at about 2 for $1. I also find packing folders to be really helpful. --Suzanne
Where did you find your mesh bags?

I have several sets of packing cubes, but also have quite a few packing folders. I find I use my 18" packing folders more than anything. I can easily get a week's worth of tops and shorts in one 18" packing folder. That 18" packing folder then fits perfectly into one side of my Hey's hardsided carry on. I can then slip a pair of flip flops (one into each end) beside the packing folder and strap it in. I then have the whole other half of the carry on empty. I use a slim cube to pack swimsuits (x2) and a coverup. I then use another slim cube for panties, bras, and nightie. I use a 1/4 cube for odds and ends and still have a little room left over in my carry on. I love being able to easily pack for a week long trip, using carry on only. If checking a bag, I'll use a 20" packing folder or if I'm doing carry on only, but need a few more clothes I'll juse a 18" packing folder in my carry on plus a 15" packing folder in my personal item. We have complete sets in green, royal blue, and the black/tan animal print, but I seldom use any of the small, medium, or large packing cubes anymore. I prefer the packing folders, 1/4 cubes, and slim cubes. If I'm carrying several sun dresses, I might use a small packing cube for them.

I bought the Rick Steve's ones on Amazon to try out cubes without paying a ton. I love them! They aren't as expensive as other brands but have held up well for me, and I travel at least monthly with DS4.

I have been using them for the past few trips. Last time when we arrived at our destination our luggage was damaged. the Fabric had a 9" gash thru it. Thankfully I used the bags and it kept all of our belongings inside. If I just threw stuff in the luggage who knows what would have been lost forever.

its not only to make packing easy, which it does, but i like the fact that i can pull them out of the suitcase and put them directly in the drawers without taking the clothes and putting them directly in the drawer. i'm not sure what was in the drawer last, someones dirty underwear?? i just unzip and tuck the lid under the cube, use what i need and then zip it back up when i'm ready to leave. easy peasy and much more sanitary imo. also, without the packing cubes i find my items are all over the place when i get home as well as wrinkled. i use a small packing cube for toiletries and skip the baggies. we have a different colour for dh and my self as well as a black set. the black set is to put any dirty clothes we may be taking back home with us in. this way we know what can be put away and what needs to be put in the washer. i used to try and organize dirty clothes in a bag but it is so much more bulky, the packing cubes just take up so much less room. you will honestly be amazed! :thumbsup2

I agree completely with this post. We travel often and I can't imagine traveling now without my packing cubes (from eBags). Last summer, 23 of us in the family went to Spain and my MIL bought a set for each individual family after she saw me using them on a previous trip. Almost everyone said they didn't want them or didn't think they would be worth it but my MIL insisted. Everyone came back from the trip and ordered more for each person in their family. They really are that great! It is hard to imagine some mesh bags would be amazing but they truly are!

I LOVE my packing cubes and packing folders. It may just be my OCD but I dont know how I managed without them. The cubes are wonderful for small things like socks and undies. You can shove a ton of them in a small one. I love the medium sized ones for pjs and swimsuits and the large ones pants. I use the packing folders for shirts, they never seem to wrinkle and stay nicely stacked. What I love most is I pull out one cube or folder from the bottom and know that the rest of my stuff is not getting messed up.

I also love them because my girls can easily pack their own things, I toss them a couple and tell them to fill them with socks or pjs etc and they can neatly pack them and I have less work!

I got lucky and my MIL bought me 2 sets of cubes and folders for Christmas one year and then a month later I found two packing folders at the goodwill for $2 each and Im not sure if they were even used!

I love my packing cubes from ebags! I don't think I could travel without them now, even on short trips! I have 2 sets of my own and have bought sets for 2 other people now and they love them. I first bought the small/med/large set then a set of 3 more small ones for everyone. Now I will say that I am Pooh sized, so therefore MY clothes don't fit in them but socks and undies fit great. I use one or two for toiletries, another for important nail products. One or 2 stay packed all the time with little things we have found essential for a trip or a cruise - scissors, tape, towel clips(deck chairs), clothes pins, sharpie markers, night light (hotel use) etc , I just grab a bag when I need it and toss it in the suitcase. There are so many uses when I travel I can't even list them all. They weigh nothing (maybe an ounce or two) at the most, they control clutter in the suitcases or carryon bags unlike anything else I have ever used. My only issue now is that I have lots of boring navy and aqua (not sure of the real name) and now I want some of the GREAT new colors and patterns. But since I have so many already and they are in great shape after many trips in the past 4 years...........I won't let myself buy any more!

PS. I have washed them with towels in the washer and they come out great, don't even need to be dried since they are so lightweight, they dry fast without any trouble. I learned this from a few spills (shampoo and powder)!

I don't get the point. You are packing your stuff in a bag, to then put them in another bag. :confused3 I understand using Ziplocs for an outfit, but not packing cubes.

I am a neat packer to start with, so I have no need for them.

I often share one suitcase with two kids. No way can we keep anything neat with three people packed in the same bag. The ebags make it super easy for each person to get their stuff without making a mess of the suitcase for everyone else.

It's also very helpful if you are stopping over for one or two nights in one place and then going somewhere else after.

my problem to. I have some vivid green ones (that match my suitcase) and a purple set as well as a black set. with the colors now, I would have a very different color scheme. except for the black. as I said earlier I use this for dirty cloths that have to go back that way. and yeah, I was them with the laundry and they come out great.

Another fan of the eBags packing cubes. Have been using them for 10+ years, and have added to my collection over the years. Used to be available in just a couple basic colors. Now, there are so many color choices and patterns to select from! My oldest cubes are in as good shape as my newer ones. I use all 3 basic sizes of the cubes. I love to keep smaller cubes in my overnight bag ready to go at all times with basics. For our 'big' trips, I mainly use the larger packing cubes. Amazing how much you can get into each one, and how organized it keeps your luggage! Invest in a set or two...you won't be disappointed.[/COLOR]

I also use mine in my backpack when I'm camping. I was tired of everything being unorganized, and they're great!

Im pretty sure sales jumped 50% at ebags since this thread started
:thumbsup2
Bought my ebags last summer. LOVE them!! Not only are they helpful during the trip, but just getting ready. I can just pull out the cubes and start packing and being organized without having to pull out the suitcase.

Absolutely worth every penny!

Once you use them they will go on every trip. I use 2 different methods for packing. If I'm moving accommodations during a trip I pack an outfit or 2 in each cube. The needed cube comes out the rest stay in the suitcase. If I'm cruising or spending the whole trip in one hotel I pack them like dresser drawers. One cube gets pins, one gets tops, one gets socks and underwear. The folders get jackets and pants. I do usually put a fabric softener sheet in each if they're staying packed for more than a few days.

I just bought 2 sets from Ikea, they were less than $20. If you're near one it might be worth a trip not to invest in the Ebags or Eagle Creek ones.

Was at Ikea yesterday and also bought 2 sets due to someone on this thread telling us about Ikea selling them. We bought 1 blue and 1 pink set from Ikea $7.99 each, also have some of the ebags packing cubes.

jealous!! our nearest ikea is like 200 miles away. we have a college and a university in our town and as much as 'rumours' have poured in that they are coming because we have the right clients they just never get here. :(
