You can use painter's tape to protect the area you aren't painting. When you are painting the walls, use painter's tape on the ceiling and then a brush to paint a few inches down on the wall. You can then use a roller on the rest of the wall. Some do not choose to use the tape and are just very careful when painting with the brush.
If you want to put two colors on a wall paint one color (I always paint the lighter color first) and make it come a bit further than you want it to. Then, when dry, use painter's tape on the painted section to make a line where the two colors will meet. You can then paint the second color and can paint up onto the tape a bit. When you remove the tape you'll have a nice clean line where the two colors meet.
If you buy a good brush & have a very steady hand you can do it without tape. Tape is worth the time. They do sell a sponge roller for the angle it does work.
textured walls. We have orange peel or knock down or whatever it is......
Both ceiling and walls are the same texture.
Thank you for your ideas, I will try. Not sure my hand is steady enough for a straight line. I would of used white on white if everyone loved that look
yes, painters tape works on textured walls - you just need to really push hard so it fits into each groove on the wall. We have textured walls (hate them) but have painted almost our entire house and always use tape.
I will also say that you get what you pay for in a brush. We finally broke down and bought a quality paintbrush for cutting in and it made a big difference.
Even with being very careful, we often have some bleed through after the tape is peeled off so we bought a tiny artist brush to do touch ups.
