so if the will end up being about the same which one would be better?
i want to do basic edidting, maybe B&W with hints of color, and definitely be able to remove people or objects from backgrounds

what do you guys think is better?
thanks for the help!

Have you tried downloading the free trial versions of both to see which you like better?

I recently bought Paint Shop Pro Photo XI (after using the trial version) and absolutely love it. I also have Photoshop and can definitely say that the same effects in Paint Shop Pro are much easier to accomplish than with Photoshop. Ultimately it is up to you and what you want to accomplish with your pictures.

I have Microsoft Digital Image Pro and it is very easy to do editing with. It has pretty much all the tools you will need for what I would call basic to intermediate editing, such as straighten, add flash, B&W, contrast and lots of others in this same level. The one thing I definitely like is you can print sheets of photo on preset formats like 2 5x7, 8 wallets, 4 3x5 and so forth. And the multiple images on one page do not have to be the same photo. Another great feature of it is the smart erase. You just mark the item you want removed and it compares the area to the surrounding areas and removes the unwanted section and fills in. For instance, I had a photo of DD as she was coming out from crawling under the bed at WL, but there was also a hat laying nearby that got in the photo. I just used the marker to draw around the hat and hit erase and it removed the hat and filled in with the carpet pattern and color. But if I need to get into more powerful editing like selective color and infrared, then I have Photoshop CS for that, those type things are above Microsoft Digital Image.

I have Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop Elements.

I find Paint Shop Pro much more intuitive than Elements (which comes from the Mac world and just doesn't "feel" like a PC program). However, what Elements has in its favour is LOTS of tutorials, both online and in magazines, on how to do some of the clever image editing stuff that I bought the programs for... Many more than Paint Shop Pro.

I can't give any opinion on MS Digital Image Pro, but do bear in mind the question of how much of a knowledge base it has...

/alan

I have Paintshop pro 7, 8, 9 and X.
also have photoshop but I never really use that one.
so addicted to my Paintshop pro 7. tried the other ones but since I started out using 7, that is the one I like most.
the image that I worked on for you was done in psp7. it is really easy to navigate and there are tons and tons of tutorials out there and filters to work with. but i guess everyone has different things they want to learn and there are a bunch of other great programs out there and lots of tutorials but to me, Paintshop rules..... :goodvibes I am such a psp-addict :teeth:
I also use it for custom designs, tshirts, logos, and animating things :thumbsup2 (like the things in my signature)
hope this helped ...:)

HAve you tried PAint Shop Pro Photo XI,

I'm also a PSP addict, occassionally forgetting to go to bed at night because I get so caught up in editing photos.

it's awesome....

the blemish remover, tooth whitener and suntan tools are incredible...

back in december a friend who swears by photo shop, was frustrated because he could not do what he wanted as far as editing a photo to be used for his family xmas cards, I had him email the pic to me, it took less than 5 minutes to make his edit, he was so amazed when I showed him how simple it was, that he downloaded Paint Shop PRo Phot XI that night..

Oh, and I almost forgot, that if you are only doing the basic editing, give Picasa a try. It is free from Google. And remember, there is nothing wrong with having multiple programs.

Whew! That's quite a list. I may have to look into this. I have an online source who sells vX OEM for $27 shipped. Might be a nice, inexpensive upgrade from Picasa!

you could also download the 30 day trial version.

I highly recommend it, there is also a skin smoothing tool that is incredible .

Yep, I'll give it a go. In fact, I think I *did* d/l the trial some time back but never did get it installed. It's probably hiding on my external HD someplace!

I have MS DIP and really like it, but I haven't used the other. DIP seems very intuitive to me, and I also use it for digital scrapbooking. Both are good programs with lots of options.
