Paid parking is coming to WDW resorts March 2018

Interesting. The all star sports pools were definitely open until at least 11 and the bar was open until I think midnight. For a pool like stormalong bay I’d want it to be open later than 8 especially paying the deluxe prices.

But you'd think that they'd keep at least the bar portion of Hurricane Hannah's open through fireworks - I know it's considered a "pool bar", but it's the only one I know of that is outside of the pool gate and is in a highly trafficked area.

I scrolled back through recent posts and I can't find the one where the poster mentioned the freedom that has resulted from giving up the Disney bubble. I have been giving this a lot of thought and in some ways I am grateful for this parking fee. I know that sounds crazy, but I think it has allowed me to admit to myself that there are things that have been changing at WDW that I have chosen to overlook or deny. On our last trip, I was so exhausted from all the planning that I think it affected my enjoyment for the first time. So much time, so much anxiety about the best plan for getting FPs, less EMH, and so much more money spent. I don't regret it; we did have many magical moments and loved walking to F&W from the BW. But I am now taking a step back and rethinking how I am going to "do Disney" moving forward.

When we were at Boardwalk a few weeks ago the pool closed at 8.

Before we booked, we called and asked about POR pool closing times, and were told they closed at 8 as well.

CBR's pool we were told close at 8 on April 27-29, which factored into our decision to head over to Cabana Bay. (pools close at 11)

Does that include the quite pools that have no lifeguard? I can't imagine not having a hot tub to use after a long day at the parks

That's actually a great analogy, re DVC and a car.

They both depreciate, have yearly maint fees, and are worth nothing at the end of their lives.

Not so sure.

But the 2 main factors are if you plan to visit WDW each year, and how long you keep the assets.

In 5 years the $30K car will be maybe $12K? The $20K maybe $9K?

5 years of dues on 100 points is $2.5K.

So it comes down to the 100 Point value. My guess $15K (or more with walking dist to Star Wars/TSL).

So the $30K car will loose $18K.

The $20K car will $11K.

But the BWV will go from $10K to $15K.

But here's the kicker, if you stay at BWI 5 weeks on cash you loose over $10K at $300 a night (or POP by then IMO).

Bottom line the $30K car lost $18K. An asset left of $12K on $30K invested.

The $20K car lost $11K but DVC gained $5K and saved $10K. An asset left of $34K on $32.5K invested.

yep unless its a major major holiday, less hours at pool, all dark and less everything for MORE MONEY.

I just talked to another one of my colleagues that would vacation at Disney several times a year and he is cutting out other trips because of the principle. They are now going to take road trips to Niagra falls, Key West, Washington DC. I think this one is the hair that broke the camels back. Anyone else altering their behavior?

Yup, going to Uni for the first time in 25+ years instead of checking out TSL. This isn't the only factor, but it is the straw that broke the camel's back for me.

I literally never, even briefly, considered staying off-site before this. I would not have been able to even name a single hotel outside of the bubble.

This has been a straw, of sorts, for me. I'm not going to swear I'll never stay on-site again, but it will no longer be the go-to choice. I'm going to look at every hotel. I have a lot of reward points because I travel for work. I'm sure I can find something off-site I can live with.

Again, rightly or wrongly, none of this would have even been considered before this perk was dropped and a fee was added. The "industry standard" explanation only causes more irritation - because it's total nonsense.

I was preliminarily planning a trip for 2019, but this put the brakes on that idea. The momentum shift took us into planning a cruise for next summer instead.

So since this has started to be put in place now I'm wondering if we know any specific details mainly

1) If two people are driving separately but staying in the same room do they have to pay two parking fees?
2) How are they enforcing this? Are they going back to paper parking passes you must display and they check each night for cars that don't have them or is it on the honor system when you check-in to declare you have a car?

We never rent a car or drive at WDW so parking fees aren’t an issue for us. For me solo I’m too young yet to really rent a car. I like the convenience of magical express and the buses. For my family as a whole we haven’t done a full family trip since 2016 mostly because our schedules.

I have one trip booked already solo. I likely will have another in January. I’m not sure after that though. I stay value and try to limit some of the more expensive food options. I also currently have an AP so that doesn’t have the expense of park tickets each trip and gives me room discounts and table service discounts.

Absolutely correct, which I'm not to sure we will keep them that long.

But then again "cash stays" end up at $0 as well. $300 a night for the next 24 years at 9 nights is $68K ($76K with tax), plus parking, ending up at $0 left.

100 BWV points gets you 9 nights std view, 24 more years (216 room nights) of paying cash at WDW rooms would be an interesting number, compared to $10K down and $500 a year at BW ($22K maybe $25K with dues increase).

That would be app $115 per night (tax included) for the next 24 years with DVC at BWV. and free parking.


But as other have said, there's so many ways to look at budgeting/choices etc.

I'm still trying to plan a family trip in early 2019, but nothing has been altered as I was already planning to be off-site to begin with.

Maybe I’m still one of those crazy people who has to rationalize their purchase , but I still do think that Disney park tickets are somewhat reasonable. Expensive? Of course! They’re expensive just like many other forms of entertainment. I don’t thibk they’re insanely so especially when you are able to go for longer. $50 or so per day is really not that crazy, IMO. Even $80-90 for a shorter term ticket, I don’t feel that’s outrageous for the ability to spend an entire day at a higher end entertainment venue.

It’s some of the restaurant prices and resort prices that have me cringing. The park tickets almost feel like a downright bargain in comparison.

I agree with the ticket prices for the most part, though there are exceptions like DHS where the one-day price should have dropped during construction. I would totally pay the price for the other parks. One thing I rarely buy anymore because of the increases is park-hopping. It's a big jump for a limited gain when you're buying 4 tickets.

I think what really bugs people about the parking fees is that you can't connect it to a value. When theme park tickets go up, you can point to new attractions. That's also why it bothers me when food prices keep increasing beyond just the typical higher costs. When a $40 meal becomes a $60 meal in a few years and also is lower quality, that's bad news. I am willing to pay a lot to visit Disney World, but there needs to be a valuable experience connected to it.
