Current feeling: shame. When the parking fees mysteriously disappeared from the WDW site for a while last night, my mind immediately moved from "100% happy with the decision to go offsite from now on" to "ZOMG LET'S BOOK ONSITE!!!!!"

Look away - I'm hideous. :sad2:

Why? You might have some of that initially, but they’re making the policy pretty clear for anyone booking now. What would the grounds be for asking for a FP for something you knew was in place when you booked?

ETA: I’ll act REALLY annoyed by the new policy if I get a FP out of it, though! (Kidding... mostly... yeah...) :D

They do it all the time. I stayed at CBR were it was clearly stated that there would be construction and noise and stuff and people still went up complaining and Disney will throw FP at you to shut you up. Maybe this time they will just waive the fee or waive a night of it but when people complain the easiest thing to do is throw them something for free and it usually calms them down.

People keep saying this will die down, think about it this way. Normal price increases are paid for before you even start your trip. With this one, it’ll be the last thing you see when you leave property. It hits your CC bill when you check out.

It’ll probably die down for a bit, but when people actually start getting charged for it as they check out, those poor cast members at the front desk are going to get an ear full. You’re going to have guests leaving WDW pissed off they got charged for something as they are leaving.

Good point, I hadn't thought about that aspect. Here one more nice parting gift for ya8-)

I can see this happening a bit. But not enough to increase FP lines as a PP mentioned. This just gets added to the list of things where if someone complains “enough” about anything they might get a FP.

No, I can’t recall then changing anything. But this seems different. The backlash for this is huge. I think it’s the straw that broke the camels back. People have been gradually unhappier about all these price increases from ticket hikes, AP hikes, ridiculous room hikes, dining, reduced transportation, nickel & dimming etc. I think this was the tipping point. Guess we’ll see.
I doubt it, but yes, we’ll see! Never know with Disney...

We didn’t book till a month out. But went and priced out some in august with Florida resident rate and portofino is still starting at 339.

Sure cheaper than GF but Gf is the highest priced at Disney.
I compared a Portofino with GF because Portofino is the flagship of Universal resorts like GF is to WDW.

Several pages ago, a poster had mentioned an ad that they had just viewed on another website that included "complimentary parking" at resorts if booked by April 7th. I think there are probably several of these, and similar, ads around the internet and in print. Some for packages, some just for rooms. Those graphics were generated months ago, along with the advertising agreements that have them popping up. Obviously a right hand vs. left hand situation, and not a sign of any backtracking. Seems like there would be a pretty good claim of false advertising, if Disney didn't honor their ads. There may be more that show up in print (travel magazines, etc), where the copy was sent to publishers months ago, that could help out a few in the coming months, at least until advertising catches up with a stupid stupid decision.

By itself, this probably wouldn't have generated all the "noise" that it has, however Disney has been building up a reputation for milking their guests for every dime they can get and this may be the straw that finally broke the camels back.

This. Yes. This.
We are at 67 pages and counting here, and there are 2 threads on this forum about parking fees. How many more people that like WDW but don't frequent forums are going to be ticked off about this new charge?

I definitely get it! :) I live in DC where everyone is perpetually outraged over something — anything — almost doesn’t matter what!! I just can’t muster it for Disney stuff anymore. But I can empathize! :)

ETA: not entirely true — I did get VERY peeved over their insanely shortened hours last Aug. I’d better not get into THAT again... ;)

Funny! I live in DC as well and I seem to enjoy the times I get to vent my outrage over things like Disney parking! :rotfl:

Maybe it's my mind finding distractions from the day to day larger injustices! LOL!

I decided to go out to the website to see if anything had changed in the general parking link (https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/guest-services/parking/) or on the resort pages. Well, it appears that the tiered parking fees have made its way back to the general parking page. I had linked from the Amenities page of AKL - Kidani Village, where it listed the parking fee.

So my guess is what we were seeing last night was a glitch.

Yep. The new info was back up there by 10pm last night.

Wnwardii- I did a search: Disneyworld.com/parking and an error page with Stitch saying OOPS! came up on BOTH DL and WDW. But the pricing was there if you went to Guest Services. I am on another forum site and I will have to say, you all on here are TAME compared to those on the other site! :-)
Parking was included in the OVER PRICED rooms at Disney, now they are charging for it! That's why I think so many guests that stay on property are upset! I don't stay on property ever and I am upset! It has to stop or we need to change our vacations to another destination! Maybe if enough do that Disney will change its mind and start making changes in the right direction! I think they are adding TOO MUCH and not enough thought going into their building plan. All the new resorts, barely any new attractions. Disney needs to take a step back and slow down on its hotels...staying off site is best for me because I will only use the room for sleeping and showering! Why pay $97+ for Value when I can get off site 3 star for $60 with breakfast!?

P.S. New to this forum so be gentle with your comments...I cry easily! :-) LOL!

On top of this, folks in the resorts forum are saying they increased room rates in February when they normally only increase them in July when they announce the next year's slate (which they did back then, too). So, this is an increase on an increased increase?

Don't worry. They will also increase in July too.

And when they announced the last park ticket increase they mentioned tiered pricing coming for multi-day tickets by year end - so another increase there too to get excited for!

Actually there are at least 3 different threads because DVC even has one.

First off, as a DVC member, this parking thing will not directly impact me and we drive every time (6 hrs).

Last year we went to US/CBBR instead of WDW. They charge parking and it is tiered to the specific resort. As a cheap skate it irritated me to pay $64 for parking. And for the record, we spent twice as much as a comparable WDW trip and had 1/2 the fun. At least US/IOA is off our bucket list.

I did however like the fact that I could get a spot, and I also liked the gate-controlled entry into the parking areas. I hope the resorts implement similar gate barriers, especially at BLT and BWV. I also hope they implement day-use charges (2-3 hr validated dining exception of course).
