Paid FP options coming soon to WDW?

Just catching up on this rumor. Ick.

I don’t like it and will be very disappointed if the FP system changes. I always try to keep an open mind when Disney changes things, and have a pretty high tolerance for change, but all the upcharges are really starting to annoy me.

We bought DVC because we love the Disney resort experience. That hasn’t changed for us at all. We still experience top notch service and feel at home when we stay at our favorite resorts. I could stay at a Disney resort and never set foot in a park. We don’t stay there because of EMH, 60 day FP windows, etc. We’ve certainly enjoyed those perks, but back when we joined DVC, it wasn’t about any of that. So ... trying to remember that while I wait to hear if there’s any truth to this rumor (and I fully expect this rumor to be true.)

Why would you pay for 15; when you can currently get 15 for free?
Tell me how one can get 15 per day free? LOL i was throwing a random number out there...Point is. If i could pay for a certain number of fast passes well above the three you get now..and not have them tiered.
Heck yes..id pay I love a front of the line option also. Right now DL still uses old school FP I loved those..We just went in 2018 you can get them like crazy if you know to properly utilize the FP system. I.E. keep getting them the minute you are allowed. With the new FP+ you cannot gets as many FP as say in DL. So, paying for a number well above 3..heck yes, sign me up.
We probably got at least 10 FP in any given day at DL. You just have to get another at the moment the ticket tell you you can..planning is key.

Pre-booked? With the limitations of the system, this would require you to stay in one park from 9am to 12am. I don’t think any park is even open that long anymore with FP+ distribution unless it’s Christmas or Easter week.

Let's face it. With Star Wars Land opening in HS towards the end of the year, this is the perfect time to drop this huge change onto their guests. People on here know what Disney has been but new guests from this country and others, will pour in, even with this added expense and Disney KNOWS IT!!! Supply and Demand. Disney will not lose from this. We have had so many family vacations that we will always cherish but I feel like Disney is just turning into a different beast!

Such a great trip. Did that many times.

However not only did US/IOA get stale, just can't justify US room costs compared to DVC (esp BCV/BWV/BLT). And since we have DVC AP the lure back to WDW at night was even greater. We knock out US during a day.

Now straight up cash stays without DVC (sounds awful), I can see split stays with US, esp if they get a 3rd park.

We did a split Portofino/Epcot-area CL (honestly can't remember which of the deluxes it was that time) stay recently.

We liked having the included express pass (and wouldn't do US again without EP), but staying on site at US was much more expensive than a CL stay at WDW. At many of the the WDW hotels, regular rooms hold five (plus an infant). Deluxe rooms hold 6. Because the room capacities at US are lower, we had to get two rooms and ended up paying about $1k a night (which was still less than whatever a suite would have cost).

We also were not impressed with how rundown the rooms at Portofino were. Mismatched/dirty light switches (with over cuts in the drywall), dirty floors, shower scum,... The rooms were cleaned but overall looked like they badly needed a refurb. Maybe Hard Rock is better?

Esp if we can get good AP rates at WDW, it makes more financial sense to stay at WDW and Uber to US for a day.

I can't believe some people say a fp will cost between $25-50 per person. OMG, how many people would pay that amount for 1 ride for their family??? For our family of 5, I am going to spend an extra $125-250 for ONE ride, after paying up to $500 for us to get into the park??? This is insanity!!! We'll probably be returning after the economy goes south, which I don't hope for but I REFUSE to pay these prices, on top of high resort prices, food, parking etc.

Additional FP's at WDW are free and don't require waiting for any certain times. Get a FP, use it, get another....rinse and repeat. Getting over 10 at MK is easy.

Depends how the details work - but if I could stay off site and save $1,000 by doing so (or whatever) then spend $125 to guarantee we get on the one ride we really want vs hoping to get a FP with the current system

If the paid FP more or less guarantees you getting on the really hard to get FPs it would be a better situation for those that stay off site

Just to reign things in a little in this thread.

All this Martin guy has said so far is "changes are coming" and "it could be a toxic reaction for some".

Everything in this thread is speculation. There is no actual information from the rumor starter on what said changes will be. Just a lot of people guessing and stating what they hope for.

Just like all changes, if they come, some will like them and some won't.

I still think there's a chance I could like the changes. We'll see I guess. A lot of people getting crazy based on nothing so far.

Easiest at MK in my opinion. I hope access to the additional same day FP’s remains. Thanks for your posts about it. Very helpful.

I can't see more FPs than currently in use coming from this. FP+ increased the number of people using FPs over paper FP. I think we are currently at the "peak" of FP use. Lets say they keep the current free 3, and any additional is added cost, I think we would not see anymore use than currently in FP.

I also think many forget we have a version of paid FP already at WDW with the extra 3 Club Level option that can be booked at 90 days. That values each FP at roughly $16-17 so in theory thats where Disney could price a single FP if they go ahead with this. Though it sounds like there will be multiple levels you can purchase.

If they had a “Costco version” of this I might be interested. A very large quantity of non-perishable FPs sold at a reduced rate that I could stockpile for multiple trips.

Which pretty much guarantees that's not going be the case. Disney ain't doing this so it can lose those resort dollars.

This, when we were there in May we got to MK after dinner and were able to book our next FPs right after tapping for that exact time. We probably won’t return if they take that feature away. The only time we’ve ever jumped in a line that had more than 45 minute posted wait was for FOP.

Trying to be patient and wait for the details - but if the end result is basically the exact same level of access/selection of attractions as the current system except now you have to pay I will be disappointed

So trying to be optimistic :D

This is all making my head hurt. Everything I was anticipating for SWGE during my December DL trip looks to be completely wrong, and now the FP+ system at WDW potentially getting an overhaul? My next trip to WDW is June of 2020 with, unfortunately for me, a group of 16 that I'm supposed to do the FP+ management for. I think I'm going to need a very big bottle of whiskey to drown myself in. o_O
More like a big bag of cash.
