Packing with ziploc bags

I pack DS4's clothes in gallon Ziploc bags. I bought a box of 2 and 2.5 gallon bags from IKEA before our first trip for my clothes. They're sturdier than regular plastic zip bags and I've actually used the same ones 3 times now.

Even though I make lists and check and re-check my bags, I am the type of person who will end up with no underwear or bras or not enough socks in my suitcase. When I pack outfits in bags, I make sure I have every component I need, my clothes always match, and my suitcase stays neater. Same for DS's clothes (DH is a grown man and is on his own). DS can pick out a complete outfit based on which t-shirt he wants to wear. I can throw one of the bags of clothes into our park bag in case of accidents (did you know Disney charges $20 for boys' cotton shorts?!).

I have packing cubes but I don't use them much anymore. The ziplocs are much easier for me.

Another great advantage about packing with ziplocks is that your clothes stay dry if there is a torrential rain storm and your luggage is sitting on the Tarmac at the airport. :faint:

This has happened to me a few times esp since we travel to FL a lot in summer.

Not so bad when you are coming home but not nice when you are getting there and have to do laundry right away.

I use to use ziplocks for my kids' clothes all the time. Now I use packing cubes. They are not as water proof but I pack them with the mesh side facing in, just in case.

I started using packing a cubes a couple of years ago and I am a huge fan!

I just bought packing cubes for this trip. I'm excited to try them out. I liked the ziploc bags when the kids were younger - they could pick out their outfit each day and I know that they already matched :)

My husband cannot handle dressing the kids. Some of the outfits that are Dad approved are definitely not Mom approved!

A lot of Kids stuff seems to come in plastic bags that I always hated to throw away (thicker than ziplock plastic and some are really nice). Saving them finally came in handy and I use them to pack!

Think the packages that kids underwear come in (if I'm not explaining myself well).

I had a HUGE drawer of them that I never threw away and that's what I use to pack. To the PP that mentioned tossing them - even if I do use ziplock bags, I reuse them for many many trips. They don't get tossed until they're falling apart or getting yucky.

I have to say, too, that since I started packing in bags, I am much likely to forget something!
