Packing Tips...

Besides the basics, I received some really great ideas on the DIS for items to pack and I also came up with a few myself, so I thought I would share the ones that were the most useful, and maybe others could as well.

1. Wet Ones. We used them on numerous occassions (2 adults no kids ;) ) and we also gave one to a mom in need one time.

2. The largest size of ziploc bag that they make. Very useful for storing cameras, souvenirs, etc... on water rides as well as storing wet ponchos in your backpack or wet shoes from a water ride. We also gave one to a mom in need once.

3. Olay Daily Facials Express face cleansing cloths. These are awesome! They are basically like the Oil of Olay daily facial cloths, but they are already wet. I hate washing make up off on white hotel washcloths. With these, you just wipe them on your face, no foam, no mess, and they even remove waterproof mascara. No need to even dry your face, it's dry within seconds.

4. Waterproof Band Aids. I knew to take band aids, but I was surprised at how useful and necessary the waterproof ones were.

5. A journal. Every night we would reflect on what we did that day, write a few notes and then each comment on our favorite/least favorite parts of the day. You are so busy there that things tend to run together, and the journal was so helpful in our quest to soak it all in and not forget anything. It was really helpful in writing my trip report too ;) It will be fun in a few months to read it and remember all the little details that we may forget.

6. Meal Vouchers from Hotwire. I cannot say enough about how great these things are! They were lifesavers for us. Let me know if you want more info.

I'll keep thinking for more :) Anyone else care to share? We don't have any kids, so maybe some moms or dads could share some tips for packing with kids?

I don't like to have a purse when I'm at the parks, so I keep my Disney pass, resort card and money in a convention type badge/holder that I wear around my neck.

If you need to have a purse, use a compact bag that goes around your shoulder so it can't fall off.

Instead of a purse, I use a camera bag. It carries my camera's and all of the other small things I need.

This way the hubby will hold it for a few minutes, not so with the purse.:)

I like to carry the hand sanitizer stuff too (Purell/bath and body works/generic - it's all the same.)

One packing tip that we used last year and were glad we did - - -

We brought an extra *empty* bag (a collapsable duffle bag) to carry home all the stuff we bought! It came in very handy!

I agree! Twice we went to WDW w/out an empty luggage and TWICE we ended up buying a new Disney luggage

(That by the way is just sitting in the closet now, I feel weird taking it anywhere but WDW!)

So yea, an extra bag is GREAT if you shop alot at WDW.:teeth: :teeth:

We always take hydrocortisone cream (like Cortaid) just in case of bug bites, and Neosporin (or something like it) because the kids get excited, start moving in one direction while looking in another and SPLAT! knees first onto the pavement!

Also, disposable rain ponchos from Wal-Mart. Even if it isn't going to rain, we will spread them out to sit down and watch a parade, especially if something "unidentifiable" has been spilled where we want to sit.

For kids, we picked up kid-sized fanny packs at Wal-Mart. We let the kids carry their own small pack of tissues, baby wipes, chap stick, even a small snack. Their autograph books fit in also. That lightened our load.

And, one last thing we never go to Disney parks without: a ziplock bag filled with pretzels--sticks, mini twists, etc. Why? Because when one of us gets off the tea cups or Mission Space, etc. feeling a little queasy, pretzels seem to soothe the "ooohhh" feeling.

Can't wait for December 12th! Guess I'd better start my list while I'm thinking about it! :teeth:

What an awesome idea...where can you find one of these at?????

My only tip is a colapsable hamper...I got mine at Walmart. Keeps dirty clothes nice and neat and not spread all over the floor. They are really cheap too..maybe $6.00, but the fold nice and easy in your luggage bag.

My one tip of the day:

Bring a bandana. Their lightweight, easy to pack, but so useful. When you get splashed at Splash Mountain, it's easy to dry up with a bandana. You can soak it and use it damp around your neck to keep you cool. It helps to clean up the kids. You can tie it around the stroller handle to mark your stroller. Tie one end around the water bottle neck and the other end around your belt loop/fanny pack/backpack strap... instant water bottle holder.

and... if you have a kid that likes to carry a blankie around, give him/her the bandana and tell them it's their mini blankie. Trust me, it works....

You can find those over the door shoe holders at any $ store. I used this for the first time for our September trip and LOVED it! It does keep all those toiletries off the counter and for someone who brings everything with her but the kitchen sink;) it really kept the room less cluttered......more organized.
Great DIS tip IMHO.

Just be careful it's mesh or clear (see thru) and NOT a CHILD size one! One DISer thought she took the adult (larger one) and when she unpacked it at WDW she was shocked. Be sure to check the size BEFORE you get there!!

One of the best ideas we came across years ago was to pack clothes in the large (2 gallon size) ziploc freezer bags. You put the entire day's outfit - top, bottom, underwear, socks - in the bag. Then you kneel on it to get all the air out. We did this when our DDs were young and still do it even though one is now 13!! This eliminates finding 'matching' clothes and you know you have enough socks etc. for each day. Plus we throw in another ziploc with extra socks and underwear. The DDs love putting the outfits together ahead of time and it does save time. We did this even before the extra security and now that they search baggage, this makes it even nicer and easier for us.

Go over to the budget board. I think that there is a whole thread on meal vouchers.

My best packing tip. Lay out all your clothes. Put half back! LOL. Poeple take tons of things they don't wear.

Actually think about your last trip. Did you take too much stuff? If so, be sure to leave the extras at home this trip.
