Packing Soda (when flying)

if the cans burst, your luggage and everyone's around your's will be a sticky mess.

If the Mtn Dew explodes, then other travelers will be in for a nasty surprise. If you are going to pack it in checked luggage buy several wine diapers which would hopefully protect other people's luggage.

You can order Dt. Dew in cans from Garden Grocer...No hassle or worrying about exploding bottles/cans.

We love garden grocer.

I agree! I had a duffel and alot of items in it ruined several years ago by some idiot who decided to pack red wine in their checked bag.

It's not the air pressure, it is the ton of weight on top of your suit case.first it is going to be weighed which you know how heavy the liquid is, then go into the cart to the Tarmac with everyone's luggage on top of it. It is picked up and slung into the plane where the luggage is into stacked side by side but everything on top of it. It is thrown down the path into the unloading for the trip back with everything on top of it.

All that turbulance you feel, imagine your soda under pressure from shaking along with the weight of several hundred pounds on top of it. This spells disaster. For his fix, he can get it delivered from one of the services. I am not sure but Staples may ship, we used garden grocer.

I remember a bride getting home with her Disney wedding memory momentos and photos she bought being drenched. That could have been weather related, but those documents were ruined for her. I would never want to do that for a bf fix.
Get it delivered.

I agree that ordering the Mt Dew from Garden Grocer is the best method. If you do bring your own soda make sure it is bottles and not cans as cans are more likely to get a puncture, even if still in the case, and leak. The bottles are less likely to leak.

Can you pack soda in your checked bags? Yes, you can. Be careful not to go over weight limits. Also..be sure to wrap the cans up in toweling, then put them into large ziploc baggies. Then another layer of toweling. You really do run the risk of having one break, split, whatever...and explode. Then not only your things get wet and ruined but other passengers as well.
If there are other drinks or snacks that you will want, I really suggest ordering from an online grocery service. I have used both GardenGrocer and WeGoShop with good results.

Or you can take a town car from the airport. They will make a 30 minute grocery stop. Granted, ours is going to cost 130$ plus tip, but it is an option.

has anyone ever checked a small cooler? I have a water cooler that I kinda wanted to take to my daughter anyway. I was thinking I could put a few water bottles in it and check it? she usually brings me groceries but I will be there a couple of days before she can come.

You cannot take the soda with you on the plane as carry-on. You might be able to pack it in your luggage (check your airline's rules), but (and this is a big issue) if the cans burst, your luggage and everyone's around your's will be a sticky mess.

Yes, please don't pack things like this. I got home with soaked luggage last Christmas because someone packed a bottle of something that leaked and completely soaked my luggage & everything in it.

I can only tell you about my personal experience when someone packed glass bottles in a checked bag....glass bottles of baby formula no less. Not only a sticky mess but a very disgusting stinky mess also. Several years ago we arrived late afternoon at MCO. We had two checked bags and a carryon each.
Checked bags were yellow tagged, being picked up at MCO by Disney baggage and delivered to our room. We had dinner reservations and returned to our room about 11:00 p.m. DH's bag was in the room...mine not. I called Bell Services and they said "Oh yes...we'll be right up" Yeah....well, they were....with an absolutely soaking wet, disgusting smelling bag......some other person's bag filled with formula bottles had broken on the truck and ruined EVERYONE's bag in the vicinity....NOT on the plane, mind you......but, on the truck after it was picked up at baggage claim. Believe me......I was extremely annoyed with whoever thought glass bottles would make it through airline baggage and transfer at MCO. I was one of the fortunate people, however.......only my bag was ruined (which Disney did replace the next day...they sent someone shopping for a new bag) since I learned long ago when traveling during the winter and getting damp/wet clothes from sloppy tarmacs.... for years I have packed EVERYTHING in my bag inside plastic travel bags...you know the bags you use for seasonal storage.....only the travel version...which roll all the air from them. None of my clothes were ruined or wet at all. I did have to handwash the outside of all my storage bags since they were all sticky. I felt very bad for all the poor folks who must have had everything in their bag ruined, stained and smelly. So....long story short.......please don't pack bottles or cans (which could burst from the air pressure) in a checked bag. If you can't get the soft drink you want onsite and simply must have that one type......please order it from one of the grocery services.....don't take the chance that all your stuff along with other peoples could be ruined by burst bottles or cans.

Yes, well glass is a good bit different than plastic....
And many people pack glass bottles of alcohol successfully BTW!!! If you purchase alcohol on a cruise to take home, you have NO OPTION but to put it in your checked luggage.

I have packed PLASTIC bottles of diet dew probably more than a dozen times now....NEVER ever have had a problem....we typically fly SW. I mean there's never a 100% guarantee with anything but I suspect you'll be just fine. I can TOTALLY EMPATHIZE with your 'dew drinker'! I go thru withdrawal if I don't take some Diet Dew with me and then I ration it while I am there! LOL!! For me it's not really the caffeine...I really like the taste better than anything else!!!
