I have flown many times, but never for a vacation where I felt the need to bring my own snacks! We have the DDP, but I have a 4 year old son and a DH who like to snack. To avoid buying lots of sugary snacks, I am planning to pack some. We are ordering groceries, but the prices are :scared1:, so I would like to bring some from home. If I cannot fit them into my luggage, can I bring boxed snacks through airport security? I looked on the TSA website, and cannot find anything saying I can't, but I don't want to be told when I get to the gate to throw it away...Has anyone done this before? I figure I can use the bag on the way home for our many souvenirs:rotfl:

I plan on packing a flat rate shipping box and sending it to myself at the resort. I learned when my husband was in Iraq that you can fit a *lot* in those boxes!

Where are you ordering groceries from that the prices are scary? Try using Garden Grocer or WeGoShop - the first has you order from a set list and they mark up the prices some and the second lets you order anything and they'll shop wherever you want and they charge actual prices plus a delivery fee. You might find this works just as well as ordering from DVC or shipping your own box of stuff...especially since you can get perishables, too.

But to answer your question directly, yes, you can bring snacks through security as long as they are not liquids or gels. The best way to think of it is this - if it holds its shape outside of its container, then it's likely safe to go through security. Something like yogurt wouldn't be allowed.

You also need to account for your airline's luggage restrictions. What would you be bringing that wouldn't fit in your checked luggage but wouldn't exceed your carry-on allowance?

Packaged food can always go through security, as long as there are no liquids or gels involved.
