Packing Snacks for the trip--flying?????

Every time I travel in the US it amazes me how much more carry on luggage Americans have than Brits. Is this why? People take their food with them instead of buying it when they arrive!

I take a box of UK Teabags (they are so expensive in the US) and some soap powder (due to allergies) - both of those go in the cases in the hold - and we each have a bottle of water (750ml) in our hand luggage but that is to drink on the flight.

On this topic, can anyone think of a way to pack bread without it getting squished??

I opened my big trap to my husband and told him I was going to pack some bread (as well as other things) and he laughed and said, "No way! It'll be smashed!" I (being the stubborn type) said.. "You wait... You'll see.. I'll get it there, NO PROBLEM!"

Well, just between us... there may be a problem! :rolleyes1 A shoe box= too short... shirt box =too thin...

Any ideas?? I need to save face on this one and arrive with a fresh loaf of bread beautifully intact!!!

LOL!!! I know what you mean about having your pride intact... :teeth:
The only thing I can think of is to keep it in your carryon with you.

Or if the shoe box is too short, just take enough to fit in the shoe box.
I still think the shoe box will fit quite a bit of bread.

Hehe... let us know what happens... :)

On topic:
I always pack food without any problem. Boxed pastas, some cans of soup or meat, cereal, granolas, and WATER!!! hehe...
I refuse paying over $2 for a bottle of water there... yes I know... I'm very strange that way.

So I pack everything and never had a problem.

I do buy minimal stuff at the resort store that I can't bring such as milk, OJ, bagel, eggs etc.

LOL... No, we don't all carry food with us. :teeth: My family usually maxes out the amount of luggage allowed. We check as much as possible, then carry on the rest. It could be that some Americans are like us & won't wear anything twice without laundering (including pajamas), & also don't want to do laundry on vacation. Mostly, you're probably seeing people on business trips. I've noticed that they often carry on all their luggage. I never have understood why they don't want to check it, but that's another story. :confused3

I decided to bring bagels to make the kids sandwiches on. I'm hopping they hold up better than loaf bread

for the wine-you can buy a carrier box at most liquor stores (i bubble wrap mine just in case before i put them in this). the wine can then be laid flat under the seat in front of you or placed in the overhead compartment.

regarding food stuff-i plan on mailing a box to the resort we will be at in wdw with all of the non perishables i don't want to get price gouged on or won't be able to find. it did'nt cost much to do this the last time (and i have to mail accross country) and the added benefit was a box waiting for me to pack souvineers up in for the return flight home.

p.s. if the kids a pb&j junkie, rather than schleping 2 jars along:get a jar of goober. :rotfl:

i will be packing a carry on with food for our flight-no way we can survive on the paltry stuff they serve.

I plan on bringing snacks with us and a loaf of bread too. I plan on freezing the bread first and putting most of it in a shoebox. I was even thinking of cutting one end off. Only a small bit of the bread would be sticking out. Our flight is direct and rather short. Hopefully, it won't be squished!

Ahhh!! The freezing thing- Great idea!!! I can see it now.. My husband pining away for a piece of the fluffy, un-squished bread.. I might even let him have a sandwich when he acknowledges ... how right I was!!!

I pack snacks in a separate suitcase and check it. It always gets searched but who cares? I then have that suitcase to fill with sounveniers for the return trip.

We packed all our food for breakfast our last trip ( cereal bars, rice krispie treats, coffee cakes, fruit snacks plus crystal light to go packs, juice bottles etc.) in one small suitcase which I believe we checked. We then used that bag for souvenirs on the way home!
