We have decided that for our upcoming trip we have an extra suitcase we plan to fill with packaged popcorn, chips, granola bars, etc.... I also plan on bringing peanut butter (carry-on) and a few other snack type items. Mostly due to dietary constraints, but also to save a bit of $$. I have read a few posts about flying and was wondering if anyone has done the same and had any problems/concerns or suggestions.

TIA!!!!

Hi, There is no problem with packing food items in a carry on bag but we have read that there should be no food items in checked bags. Maybe each person could carry some in their carry on. Hope this helps.

I have always packed those type of items and had no prob. This time I am packing bottel waters I hope that goes well! :teacher:

Just remember that if you have a tub of peanut butter, you are more likely to have your bags searched. I read somewhere that peanut butter shows on the x-ray screens the same as some forms of explosives, but I could be remembering it wrong. Does anyone else remember reading this?

When we made our trip last year my husband packed so much food (and soda, and water) in his bag that the man who checked our bags gave me a funny look when he tried to pick it up. Sure enough, that bag was marked as having been searched, but no matter, we saved a lot on breakfast and quick snacks in the room! :)

I used to pack some in the extra piece of luggage, but we have so much to carry otherwise, that I put some in each luggage. I cut down a bit on the clothes (we always take too much anyway), and everyone has one large piece of luggage each. We also take a large diaper bag, large duffel for DH and my carryon, and DD12's backpack. I take an empty baby wipes container (great due to the hard sides), and stuff all my granola and snack bars, applesauce tubes, etc in there. When we do a supermarket stop for diapers, I take the food out and buy a large refill pack of wipes to put in the container. Wa-lah! I also have a good deal of crackers, snack bars, a few drinks, gum, and candy in the carry on, because we fly early in the AM and stop for lunch in WDW. DD12 could never wait that long to eat. I used to take a ton of snacks, but we never ended up eating them all, and always have to carry some back. Making the grocery stop, we can pick up water, muffins, fruit, and anything that wouldn't hold up to luggage handlers. Then we can leave most of the leftovers in the room. We stopped at Walmart, which was a lifesaver! We picked up baby cups with the cover and straw, and plastic baby utensils, which we are still using today! Sorry to run on and on, but I can't stress this enough- think about how many days you will be in WDW, and how many snacks you will be able to humanly consume in that time. Depending on when you are going, the heat may deter you from eating a lot. Hate to waste good money on snacks that you will leave in the hotel when you leave!

I also plan on bringing peanut butter (carry-on)

Just remember, do not open it on the plane. Some people have such an allergie to it, just the smell will set them off.

I was about to post the same thing! This is why many airlines no longer serve peanut snacks, too many people are alergic to peanuts. If someone has a reaction and can't control it, they could be in serious trouble.

I flew last month and checked a small bag that held snacks and water and juices. Nothing was said about it though I did try to insulate the suitcase with some beach towels just in case the water or juices were broken.

You just cannot check perishable items.

I packed a full soft-sided cooler with snacks (the one that come free with a case of beer) and checked it on the flight. We packed juiceboxes, fruit snacks, cracker snacks, some Go-packs of chips, crackers, cookies, etc- this bag was PACKED!!!

When we got to the hotel, I emptied the bag into a drawer, and filled the cooler with ice and put in the tub to keep the milk and juice cool.
For the next trip, I will probably bring pouches rather than juice boxes, as the got a bit soggy in the ice.

I always pack snacks for our trip. I have never had a problem with the airlines or customs.

iheartdisney,

Put your ice in ziplock bags and nothing will get soggy - you also won't need to keep the cooler in the bathtub. We spent years with wet food and a wet floor (before we started using the tub), then I read this suggestion on these boards. How obvious!

OK, this is a bit off topic for the snacks portion of this thread, but DH and I like a particular brand of Pinot Grigio that is available by the box :rolleyes1 (classy -- I know. :snooty: That's why we keep our hidden boxed wine enjoyment out of the public's eye!!!). We like to have a glass of wine at night but won't be able to make a grocery stop this trip. We plan to carry it on the plane in our carry-on and just toss what we don't drink. Is it possible to carry this on? I traveled back from Las Vegas with a gallon jug of hot sauce given to me at a trade show, but I don't know the policy on wine...

I've never seen pinot in a box--who makes it?? (See there are other classy people on board ;) )

Well, DH and I brought home 5 cases of wine (bottles, not boxes) from CA one time, with no problem. (We had to mail our clothes back home, but that's another story :rotfl: :rotfl: ) I know that we carried at least one case on board (checked the rest). That was pre-9/11, so not sure if the rules have changed or not. You might want to contact the airline and ask.

PS - love your Tink pic.

I have packed instant oatmeal, cookies, bottled water, juice boxes, cookies, canned juice and so many other items on numerous trips and haven't had a problem (so far :rolleyes1 ) with the airlines. I usually double bag the water, juice and anything else that may leak in two ziplock baggies. Also, I put a few baggies in each of the suitcases so that I don't have one bag with everything that weighs way too much.

From a parent with a peanut allergic child PLEASE be very careful with the peanut snacks..... Some children are so allergic it cant even be in the air without making them sick or close to death. I fortunatley dont have a child that allergic but i thought i should post it so others would be aware that your quick and easy snack could possible kill someone

PLease dont take offense to this post .......
I just wanted everyone to be aware that some children cant even tolerate the smell.

Delicato. It retails for about $17.99. It's a California wine and goes GREAT with pizza and burgers -- it's a great picnic wine.

I am taking food also, and I got real good advice from a friend. When you go to the parks, take non-perishable foods and frozen drink boxes in pringles cans. They are lightweight, dont take up a lot of space and you can pack a drink, crackers, fruit gummies and cans of vienna sauages (or canned tuna) if you rather in them. MAke sure you get the little cans, though..not the full sized ones.
