Packing Question

I should get packing for our 4/24 departure. I've never been to WDW. I have a question about clothing.

There's my 5 y.o. daughter, my husband and me. We're going for eight days and seven nights.

We're going at the end of April when, I've read, temperatures are 50 - 85 degrees.

So, here's the question -- Would you pack 8 pairs of shorts and a couple of pants or 5 shorts and 5 pants per person or what?

KIS

I would pack 3 pairs of pants and the rest as shorts. There are laundry facilities at all of the WDW resorts so you could do laundry if it is colder than 3 days, which is doubtful at the end of April. That way you will be prepared, but not over packed.
:earsgirl:

I would probably pack less for DH and yourself but for DD perhaps a bit more. As the previous poster said there is always a laundry room if needed. This coming from someone who packs everything including the kitchen sink, lol!

Yup - Pack LIGHT. Because you are going to need LOTS of room for souveniers! LOL

Seriously - the laundry facilities are great, usually right next to the pool (so you can relax in the sun while you do laundry .. how cool is that?) Our family of four has it down to a science - we can get all our stuff to WDW for a 9 day stay .. and we can fit it all into four overhead bags!:teeth:

We are going to be there 4/23 - 5/2. I am being optimistic and have packed all shorts & tees and 1 sweatshirt for each of us. We are coming from NH so I know that pretty much no matter what the weather, it will feel warm to us!!:p We will travel down in pants and light jackets so we will have those if it gets cool, plus we always buy Disney sweatshirts while we are there anyway!!

Have a great trip!!

bringing some sort of leggings that can be put on at night or worn early in the morning before it gets warm.

We were there in Jan and the AM's were cool and the evenings were cool too. A pair $5 leggings from Target were perfect along w/ a light jacket.

Also, two pair of comfy walking shoes in case one gets wet on a ride or in the rain. No fun walking in wet shoes all day.

I think that wisk makes laundry tablets which are easy to transport and you could easily bring along some shout wipes and dryer sheets if you need to do laundry.

I usually pack 1/2 cool weather and 1/2 warm and mix and match (like t-shirt w/ jeans) and one extra warm outfit and cool outfit. So for our 8 day trip I will pack 5 shortsleeved shirts and shorts and 5 long pants and long sleeved shirts/sweaters and sweatshirts.

I know that there are other threads that list the "Ultimate Packing List" link that has some good suggestions

How do I get to this "Ultimate Packing Suggestions" link?

I was thinking along the lines of 8 shorts/tee-shirt and 5 pants for our daughter, a light jacket, one costume and one sundress. Two pairs of sneakers and two bathing suits.

For my hubby and me, I was thinking of the 4-5 shorts, 4-5 pants, 4-5 shirts, one light jacket, two pairs of walking shoes and two bathing suits.

My daughter gets dirty and I don't want to do laundry on my vacation.

There are only 3 of us.

I was thinking of packing somewhat loosely in 4 suitcases so we could stuff everything in along with souvenirs we purchase there. Also, one of those suitcases may have some "preWDW" purchased "souvenirs" -- stuff I've bought from Disney stores which might be nice to give each day while in WDW -- tee-shirts, barettes, that swirling nightlight type toy for parade evenings.

I was not going to bring the snacks down since we want to have the limo stop at Albertson's for some fresh fruits and vegetables along with some yogurt, cheese and may be even a salami.

I welcome opinions on this. It's our first trip, after all. Don't let that "Veteran" appelation fool you. I just have enjoyed planning and using the boards to educate myself. To date, my only WDW experience has been "virtual". Hey, I guess that makes me a "virtual veteran"!

KIS!
You are going to have the best time. Hope we see you there, we will be there at the same time and I started packing last night. I have 3 kids, one a baby. It's going to take me all of the next 2 weeks to finish packing..... :)

I am wearing 1 pair of pants, shirt and long sleeve sweatshirt on the plane. I will bring another set (capris, sweatshirt/sweater) for if it's cool. Then I'm bringing 7 shorts (khaki, denim) and 8-10 shirts that go with everything (white :) ). Wearing sneakers on the plane. Bringing flips for the pool and my comfortable Merrell sandals for the parks, and a dressy pair of sandals for PI. The kids each have 7 outfits, a spring jacket and a sweatshirt. If we need more than that, I guess we will just have to buy it there, <sigh> . We are staying at a villa with laundry, so I'm sure I will do laundry, cause the kids will probably go through at least 2 outfits a day. As other posters have said above, it's relatively easy to do laundry if you are planning on doing any pool time in the afternoon, it's not really like work at the resorts, so don't rule it out if you need to. Put it in the wash, take a dip, flip it, take a dip, have a colada, take a dip....

I bet your more excited than your daughter....I know I am! What are we going to do with ourselves after the trip?

I'm definitely excited. My only fear is that I've got unrealistic expectations, despite working with touringplans on the itinerary.

Thanks for sharing about your items.

in case she needs to change during the day due to ice cream or food spills. I have never done laundry at WDW because I always overpack. I don't want to ever have to do laundry there. A few exra tshirts and shorts do not take up a ton of luggage space. I would bring a zippered sweatjacket in lieu of 3 sweatshirts, and maybe wear a sweatshirt on the plane on the way there. I would bring extra capris instead of several pairs of pants. I bought a few pair of bike shorts (spandexy type) that are very thin and take up very little space. A few larger t shirts work as pjs, and can be used instead for park clothes if the other stuff gets wet or dirty. Check the weather forecast this week and next to get a better idea of the temps. Hope that helps a little!

At the Accu-weather site the 15 day forcast shows highs in the mid 80's and lows in the mid 60's. Add on about 10 degrees for the wonderful Florida humidity, and I know I won't be packing any pants at all for our trip April 30 - May 9. We just won't need them if the weather stays this warm.

Usually we (Mom & I) wear capris or jeans and a light jacket on the way down and way home--WI is still chilly in early May. But we pack shorts and tanks for our trip. We usually overpack on tanks. One for day and a clean one for night...nothing like a fresh shirt after a hot sticky day in the parks. No socks are packed and no walking shoes...we get by w/flip flops and sandles:smooth:

You won't need 5 pairs of pants. 2 or 3 will be plenty. I would plan 2 outfits/day for DD.

When DH and I go for 8 days, we pack 4 prs of shorts, 8 shirts, 1 pr of pants, a light jacket/sweater, 2 bathing suits. 2 people/2 suitcases.

Hi KIS, I can't tell ya what to pack. But I will say the weather at the end of April will be very warm and humid. It's possible you may see 50 degree weather at night, but unlikely. I would expect low to mid 70's at night and high 80's in the day. Summer comes quick down here. I would suggest getting some rain ponchos. They sell them in the park, but you could save a buck if you bring your own.

p.s. Again, sorry about the dizzy thing.

From past experience, the first week in May has always been very warm. We leave in 20 days - DH and I will wear slacks on the plane and pack one extra pair for our 11 days, the rest will be shorts or cullottes for me.

Thanks, everyone.

My husband is a weatherbuff and already told me about how unlikely it would be that we'd need jackets, even. We are bringing rain ponchos and some windbreakers, instead of my jean jacket and my daughter's sweatshirt type jackets.

My daughter decorated some 50/50 tee shirts for us as well as some sweatshirts. I was thinking of using those along with pants for our trip down. The second set of these tee shirts might work at MGM where we're indoor.

I'm having her bring another pair of pants, a sundress and the rest shorts.

I am leaning toward bringing extra shirts for her since she tends to get messy. I was thinking of 12 shirts. Would short sleeves do or is the wisdom of these boards in favor of tanks for 4/24 -5/2?

I am bringing about 4 shorts, 2 jeans, some nicer pants and a sundress. I'm not too sure how many tee shirts. I don't do tank tops, so that's not an issue.

As my packing inventory is shaping up, I would like to hear people's reactions.

Thanks so much.

Tiziminchac, don't sweat it. Better humor than tears or fretting, right?
