Packing List for DEC?

Yep, we are leaving in 6 days and were at WDW in Dec 05. FL weather is unpredictable, heck, i remember laying out the pool one Christmas when I worked there, then in 05, we froze and needed hats and gloves.

We come prepared with layers. We pack shorts/capris for the day with t-shirts. We all wear/carry a hoodie or light jacket at all times, even during the day. Sometimes it can get cold in the restaurants/shows even if it is warm outside.

We take a midday break, so we usually change for nighttime and throw on jeans and long sleeve shirts if needed. Again- bring hte hoodie. We don't bring coats, except for the kids and we pack some shirts to layer with if need be. We do bring gloves and hats just in case. At MVMCP in 05 in early December, it was in th 30s and we needed them.

We are currently in WDW and arrived on the 1st. Weather the first few days was nice and warm, shorts and tshirts all day and even at night. Last night was the first night where there was a slight chill in the air, still wore shorts and tshirts no coats for the adults but the kids wore sweatshirts and shorts and they were fine. Today, its rainy and damp, so as much as we hate to have to wear long pants ...we are wearing them today and also had light jackets on mostly to take cover from the rain. Kids have on sweats and sweatshirts ...you never know what the weather will be nomatter how much you look at weather.com or another weather website. Just come prepared with alittle of everything, and some laundry detergent incase you need to wash anything! Don't forget your umbrellas either ...unless you are poncho people then pack them too!

I like to pack lots of layers - I will pack leggings so I can put them under jeans or a skirt. I pack those teeeny stretchy gloves, a headband-earcover and a scarf. It gets expensive to buy that stuff at WDW.

We use a backpack so we can store them as we take things off or put them back on ...

Watch out for days when the wind is coming out of the North, even if the temp is in the 60s, the north breeze makes it feel cooler especially waiting at Epcot for Illuminations.

In winter I always pack a small flashlight, sometimes paths can be dark, I also have used it to make shadow animals to amuse myself and kids around me while waiting in lines.

One of the things I have noticed about myself: I do better if I am IN the park as it gets dark rather than getting myself motivated to GO to a park after dark... I think I just like to go back to my "cave" at dark and stay ... and if it's dark AND raining, I get so depressed that there better be a place to eat in the hotel ... last trip we blew off our last night at the Studios because it was cold and rainy ...

Thanks for all of your tips! I'll be there on December 13th!

Don't worry - the weather forecast for Florida is only good for about 12 hours in advance anyway! :rotfl:
Yeah, so true. It said rain for the past two days (said all day too!) and it didn't rain until like 10PM.

Anyways, bring a mix and you'll be fine.

I'm going with friends tomorrow.. 62 degree high, 70% chance of rain. Going to be fun. :) Used up a lot of warm clothes during the week at school!

Have a great trip!

The last time we were there in December it was REALLY cold. We're from ND, so that's hard to imagine! We were prepared for cool, but nice weather and it actually froze many nights. We had to buy coats, hats and gloves, so please be prepared! Just rent a locker in the morning and store the extras. Hopefully you'll have beautiful weather. It HAS to be warmer than it is here in ND (4 degrees!)
:scared1:

We were there for Thanksgiving in 2006 and it was freezing for the first half of the week! My kids wore long pants, sweatshirts and winter coats all day! By the day we were leaving, it was sunny and warm.

We've been twice in December and, as others have said, have experienced a real mix. One tip is to bring gloves for everyone -- just tuck them in to jacket pockets. They can be just simple knit (lightweight) ones -- having them available if you need them is wonderful.

Also remember that in the long run it is cheaper/easier to bring along a backpack with your sweatshirts/layers if you plan to be out in the parks all day and the day starts warm (just rent a locker to toss it in); easier to go to the locker if it gets colder at the end of the day/evening than to run around trying to find sweatshirts to buy for everyone (and certainly easier than having to go back to the resort).

ITA...they don't take up any space and you'll be so happy to have warm hands if the temps drop into the 40s (or even 50s if there's a wind). Packing for a December trip can be a real challenge, especially when you want to minimize the number of bags you'll be checking, but it's crucial you bring at least one of everything (and money/travel-sized detergent for the washing machine if you end up needing to do laundry because you don't have enough of something packed) because the weather fluctuates so much.
