We leave next Saturday. :yay: We've never stayed in a rental home.
Can someone give me an idea of things we will need to take with us in case we dont make it to the store the first night. Or even small things I should bring instead of buying while we are there.

TIA
Wanda

Here are some things that we brought from home for the vacation home:
dishwasher tablets (brought enough for 1 per day and left the rest at home!),
paper towel and a couple rolls of toilet paper (used the space for packing souvenirs coming home), some garbage bags (they lie flat in the suitcase and it saves having to buy a whole pack while there), powdered laundry detergent in a zip-loc bag, fabric softener dryer sheets, bars of soap for shower and hands, coffee filters (if you know the type of coffee maker), sandwich bags for taking snacks, etc. to the parks (if you plan to), plastic wrap/tin foil if you don't want to purchase it there and are doing any cooking. We also packed snack foods into the extra corners of our suitcases...granola bars, microwave popcorn packs, etc. :goodvibes

We live in South Florida and we have always purchased the supplies we need at places like Publix near to the vacation home.

We always fly, so we are limited on what we can bring. The only thing we bring are coffee filters, and dryer sheets. I just can't bear the thought of buying an entire package of either of those, just to leave most of them there. If you are driving, the only other things I would suggest bringing from home might be a sheet pan, and a nice frying pan and spatula. So far, every place we have stayed at, except one, has not had a cookie sheet or a decent frying pan. We buy them there and then pack them on the way home. Other than that, we buy everything there. The prices are pretty comparable to what I pay at home.

Our vacation home came with a welcome basket that had coffee, powdered cream, sugar and sweet n' low packets, tea, hot chocolate, some snacks, and coupons in it. It was already stocked with plenty of TP and a roll of paper towels, some garbage bags and each bathroom had a new bar of soap. We did get in early enough to shop, but we could have made it through the night without doing so.

there are 10 of us renting a home in october 2009. The owner stated that all owners are different, but she supplied towels and beach towels all cookware (which she stated was nice), some cleaning supplies for small touchups throughout the week, 1 roll of tp for each bathroom, and 1 roll of paper towlels. I am going to be putting a seperate list together for vacation home needs. When I get it done, I will post it. Or, if anybody has a list they would like to share, we would appreciate it. :)

Kokomos,

I see you live in Pearl, MS. My sister & her family live in Magnolia, MS. We are originally from the greater NOLA area.

I am subscribing since I will be doing the same as you next year. Where are you staying?

I would personally email the owners and ask specific questions about what they provide.

Such as pool towels, if you plan on a lot of pool time or water parks you will want them does the owner provide them? It would be great to have the info before you leave. Pool towels take up way to much room in the luggage if you will not need to pack or if they are provided so much the better.

Here is a thread that was started a short while back hope it helps.

Have a great time and lets us know how you ejoyed the stay at the rental home.

I did email the owner last night but i havent heard back yet. Right now I have packed a few trash bags, soap, dishwasher tablets, will take a 4 pack of toilet paper just incase.
We will have a car to get anything we need but There are somethings I just dont want to buy too much and bring back home.
I will wait to hear on the beach towels I dont want to pack those if i dont have to.
I doubt we will do too much cooking. mostly toasters items for breakfast
or cooking on the grill.
Thanks for the many replies.
