Ok, I haven't flown in years, so not sure of all the rules. I did look at the 311 thing and to me, I really don't get it.
Can you pack ANYTHING in your checked in luggage? If so, why bother putting any liquids in your carry on? What about medicines like ibuprofin? Can they go in your carry on? Makeup? Chapstick? Waht is considered a liquid?
Once I get trhough security can i buy a soft drink or juice and take it on the plane with me? I have a two year old and she will definately need something. I think I heard you could do that. Is there a limit on that?
How about snacks? Or diaper powder or rash cream?
Any info will help.
I ahve been directed to the offical website, but that really doesn't help me. I don't get alot of what it says.

You can check pretty much anything. Not bombs, but you know what I mean. :)

You can carry on food, and yes you can buy a drink after you get through security and carry it on. Save yourself the hassle and pack anything you aren't going to need immediately in your checked luggage. Make sure you carry on prescribed medications. If you do want to carry on liquid makeup, it has to go in the quart sized ziploc. The 311 rule applies to each passenger so if you have more than will fit in one carry on, get someone else in your party to carry it.

Sorry to resurrect an old (well, sorta) thread! Just wondering, is chapstick considered a "liquid or gel" and therefore need to go in my 311 bag or is it a solid and can just get tossed in my carryon? TIA for any help, I know it's "allowed" but I'm just not sure whereabouts it needs to go in my carryon. Thanks again :)

I think it is OK to throw in. If you are worried, just put it in your 311 bag. But I'm pretty sure I read it doesn't have to go in there.

Pack you meds in your carry on. They always say to do this in case the airlines loose your luggage you don't want to be without it. I would also keep them in the original containers with the information on it in case they ask what it is with the new rules. :)

The issue is that there are a lot of folks who like to have only a carryon with them...no checked luggage. I wish I could get away with that, but it just doesn't work for my family. Anyway....if you will be using either just carryon, or are taking DME from the airport and won't have access to your checked luggage, then you might want to have some travel sized suntan lotion, shampoo, that type thing. It's really not a big deal if you have checked luggage and you don't need it for a few hours when you first arrive.
