packing food in check baggage when flying jet blue

Are there any snacks that can be brought along in carry on luggage? I do plan to ship a box down before we go with most snacks and sundries. I'm just going to either give away leftover stuff or toss it. I just hate the idea of tossing body wash, shampoo and etc away. But I don't want to check more than one bag. $25 each way for one bag is silly.

Does anyone know if it's cheaper to just ship your "what would be checked bag" down and ship it back? I shipped back luggage and boxes after my Mom died and I didn't think it was that expensive but then I was in a state and don't remember all of it well.

I hate that the only direct flight for us is Continental. Expensive! :scared1:
The shipping cost would probably be less than the cost of checking a bag. But you will have to go through the hassle of finding a good shipping container and then carting it off to UPS or FedEx. Then you will have to deal with having your resort track the package down after your arrival. I shipped a box to BC once and it took 2 days after our arrival for the package to be tracked down and brought to our room.

For the price of checking a bag ($50 RT), I would either take a cab to Walmart or Publix OR I would use a grocery delivery service.

ETA: As far as carry on snacks are concerned" Anything that is a solid can be packed. I've brought granola bars and whole apples onboard without a problem. Don't take liquids or gels. There was a woman infront of me at MCO who was arguing with a TSA agent because her unopened bottles of Gatorade were being confiscated at the security checkpoint.

We also made the mistake of packing a case of sodas that weren't available where we were going once and the rough handling at the airport resulted in 9 of the cans exploding and soaking everything in the bag (we knew it was during the unloading at the airport because they were still spewing out a mist in the bag when it came on the bag carousel).

Bottled sodas work fine in checked luggage. I often carry a couple to last until I can get to a grocery store. Just to be safe, I put each one in a separate gallon ZIPlock bag, then double wrap them in plastic grocery bags. In probably 50 times doing this, I've only had one leak a little bit one time and the ZIPlock bag kept everything else clean. Even the grocery bag they were wrapped in was clean.

I do use a suitcase with hard sides. The outcome might be different if you were just using duffles or something.

I've had the smaller bottled sodas burst in my bag, and this was just by a porter delivering the bags dropped off at the cruiseship and up to my stateroom with NO air travel involved. I wouldn't chance it. It's not as though the large 32 oz sodas can't be bought at the WDW resort gift shops and for under $3.00--Kathy
