What is the best way to pack a wedding dress.Travelling from UK to USA.Dress is princess style with train. What size box/case can be taken on plane as "carry on"luggage, don't really want to put it in hold.

Your airline can provide you with the maximum dimensions for carryon luggage. Do you happen to have the box it came in from the manufacturer? That's what I used when I shipped my dress. It just has to be big enough to accommodate any structure in the dress, like boning in the bodice, without bending. You can smush the rest of it up and then have the gown steamed in your hotel room before the wedding (by Carolyn Allen's or Loftis Productions).

Alternatively, I notice that a lot of UK brides buy special travel boxes for their gowns, something you don't really see in the US, so you may want to Google for UK companies that make these. Here are a few:

I took my dress from TX to FL. It isn't as long of a flight, but I had a ballgown and kept it in the dress bag from the shop. The airline said most women just put it in the overhead bin. I was able to lay mine out flat and take up a whole bin to myself. Just make sure you get early boarding access. :)

The airline was very nice and accommodating when I flew from California to Florida. They put it in a closet for me.
