Can you pack coffee and food in your luggage, I like certain things and want to take them with me on our trip. Just want to make sure they are allowed.

Yes you can. If you are putting food stuffs into checked bags, make sure you are double bagging anything that may leak. You don't want to ruin your clothes and possibly other people's clothes. If you are putting food into your carry-on make sure there is nothing that has liquid, such as applesauce or fruit cups. Those won't be allowed.

Don't forget that you can always ship things to yourself! I always send a box to myself c/o the front desk of our hotel via fed ex or UPS. I put all of the snack food, and also empty water bottles and other lightweight stuff in the box. It generally costs me about $15-20 to ship it and then I don't need to fit all that bulky stuff in the suitcases. I send it off about a week before our trip (we're in Wisconsin) and we've never had any problems. Disney will put a note in your check-in info so that when you check-in, they simply have your box waiting for you!

Do not put anything perishable (including breads) in your suitcase. The cargo areas of the plane get extremely warm. Anything perishable will not last long.

We have packed entire suitcases with food! (Thanks to Southwest's no baggage fees). Cereal, crackers, kids snacks, coffee (a must have). The empty suitcase made a great way to bring home souvenirs and any leftover clean clothing. Anything unopened and leftover went to a family just checking in. A little way to pay it forward.

I've done it, without problem.

I would not put lunchmeat in there but I've done bagels or bread/pb, shelfstable dairy products, crackers, chocolate (never arrived melted), candy, chips, etc.

Never noticed anything being hot, in fact the opposite and stuff was cooler then normal.

All it would take is a delay with your bags on the tarmac and your chocolate will be a gooey pool.

When we bring food we carry it on. Doesn't work with peanut butter as far as I know. But anything non liquid I just put it in the carryon.

This is what I'm planning on doing. Especially since I couldn't get SW and am stuck with a $25 per way checked baggage fees.

When putting liquid items in checked baggage, wrap your items in plastic bags and then put a towel around them too.

We did this once with Lender's Bagels. They were fine the first day. By the second day they were moldy.

You can only really do this with solids. Had to hand over a jar of Knott's Boysenberry Jelly on our way back from DLR. I was really bummed to because you can't find it around here.

In my backwards way I was trying to include things like that with the non-liquid mention. Wasn't perfect, obviously. :)

Anything (over 3.4 oz*) that can't hold its shape when out of a container is a no-no in a carry-on. I think that's probably the best way to put it.

*3.4oz, in a marked container, as many as you can fit into a 3-1-1 baggie, and you can have as many baggies as you do ticketed passengers...

I've done that with small-enough packets of PB and jelly when I wanted to make sure we had something we could eat. Though we don't eat PB on the plane...don't want to panic an allergic person as the smell of PB wafts through the plane.

I agree with shipping it...super easy. We do that with DS diapers and always add some food. We do GG but just for basics..other things get shipped.

We always take a fair bit of food with us- having 7 people to feed it just works out better/cheaper - I can buy things here we need on sale (coffee, crackers, cereal) and take with me- I have even packed cheese with frozen water bottles in cooler bags. We still see the grocery stores a LOT while there but bringing what I can helps. We then have lots of suitcase space for all our shopping to bring stuff back home. We also take other supplies we need for the villa-laundry detergent, soaps, kleenex anything that will fit. We all take food in our carry ons to eat in the airport/on the plane- muffins, granola bars, cheese and crackers and an empty water bottle we refill past security.

  1. Most people that fly to WDW do not rent a car.
  2. Who wants to spend their precious vacation time grocery shopping?

Not everyone rents a car and taking a taxi pretty much negates any savings.

Some people have to have specialty food (special diets/allergies/picky eaters) that they are not guaranteed to find in FL.

When I get a car I shop, but when I don't have a car I just bring along some essentials and then buy milk at the gift shop.

Eh, we are not "gift" buyers, and we like being able to eliminate a bag on the way home. (Food in the suitcase, clothes in a duffel on the way down, duffel gets collapsed for the trip home.) The primary reason why we take certain foods with us is package sizing. We don't want an entire lb. of coffee, just enough for four mornings. We also don't want to buy a qt. of dishwashing liquid when 3 oz. will do for washing out drink mugs. We usually do go and pick up some groceries, but often we arrive late the first night, so at least one day's worth of breakfast items gets us off to a quicker start on our first full day.
