Has anyone else done this? We are driving, So I figure one laundry basket will take up less space in the van than 1 HUGE suitcase, or two meduim suitcase, plus 3 little kids suitcases. Plus, it will mean less to trip over in the villa. I put the suitcases away, but the kids like to pull their's out and drag them all over the place.

Yup, I am talking myself into it, I am putting everyone's clothes in a laundry basket....anyone ever tried this?

Interesting idea. We used to drive all the time and I never thought about it. I think I would still stick to the suitcases. Much easier to haul from the car to the room. I think that I would rather wheel my luggage into the room than to have to carry heavy clothes baskets in. Plus my husband would probaly kill me if he had to try to fit 4 clothes baskets into a trunk.

I, too, like the wheeled feature of luggage so we use that for most of our clothes. However, we always take a laundry basket with us on our beach vacations. It's how we pack beach towels and blankets, etc.

Have great time.

I'd pack a couple of wheeled suitcases (and pack a couple more empty suitcases inside them for souvenirs on the return home). Last week in a 2-bedroom at the BCV, the resort provided a laundry basket.

I packed most of our clothes in a large laundry basket (we drove) for the three of us, then had a small carry-on bag for my extra sandals and everyones undergarments, another tote bag for toiletries, and a small cooler for snacks. We all drove down from NJ with Mom and Dad...they packed the same way. That was the only way we could fit our luggage and everyone in the Tahoe. It was so much easier than packing suitcases...anytime we drive a car to a DVC property we will do this. Go for it!

Just some clarifications

Last week in a 2-bedroom at the BCV, the resort provided a laundry basket.

I am not needing a laundry basket for doing laundry. I wanted to put all of our clothes in one laundry basket for the drive down. My thinking is one laundry basket will take up less space than 5 suitcases.

Plus my husband would probaly kill me if he had to try to fit 4 clothes baskets into a trunk.

UGH, 4 laundry baskets? I may as well pack the suitcases! LOL. I am thinking one basket for all of our clothes.

anytime we drive a car to a DVC property we will do this. Go for it!

Thanks Suzy! You convinced me! Packing and unpacking will be so much easier also. I have a little carry bag I can put toiletries, ect in.

"but the kids like to pull their's out and drag them all over the place."

That's what shelves in closets are for.

I think it's a fantastic idea! If you can pack 1 laundry basket vs. 4 suitcases, I say go for it!

On our trip in June we used one small suitcase (for the drive down and back mostly), an overnight bag for bathroom stuff and then had 2 Rubbermaid totes with tops. I used one for DH and I and one for the 2 girls and all of our shoes. I loved it, once we unpacked we used one tote as a 2nd laundry basket (beyond the one that came with the room) and the other tote was a toy box for the kids. I will - without a doubt - do this again, it was very easy and convenient. Much better use of space in the SUV too - the totes stack really well - left plenty of room for the plug in cooler and other stuff. I know it will be a lifesaver in our new minivan too.

We pack everything in laundry baskets and those big plastic bins when we drive. I don't think I owned a suitcase until I was in my late teens...laundry baskets just make more sense when you're driving...to me anyway.
