So just wanted to have a shameless pity moment...I sprained my ankle!!! And it's pretty bad. Luckily this happened now and not in Sept or poor DH would have to try to figure out how to push DD in a stroller and me in a wheelchair cuz there is no way I can do all that walking :rotfl:

I fell walking out of my own house (apparently forgot there was a step :confused3 ). Let me tell you, nothing slows you down like a sprained ankle OR and when you drive half of the day for work...nothing hurts worse than trying to drive with a sprained right ankle! I had to drive 3 hours straight yesterday. Then, because I'm a gigantic baby about icing it, my DH took my ankle and bandaged the ice packs to me when I got home!!!

OH and the worst part...I was on a really good kick going to the gym and now I didn't get to go yesterday. I had been going to the gym 3 nights a week and doing water aerobics 2 nights. Water aerobics is tomorrow so I think I'm going to skip the gym again tonight and start with water aerobics and see how that goes...but I was told that it might hurt for 6 weeks?!?!?! Has anyone else sprained an ankle? Did it hurt for 6 weeks????

I am sorry to hear about your ankle. Make sure you are elevating it as well as icing it. Hope you get better soon!!

Hi everyone! I am so amazed at all the work you guys turn out! Sorry I have not been around. Crazy week...again! FIL is getting a motorized scooter and we have been getting everything straight for a lift to be put on my van. I quit my job on Saturday!:cool1: I have worked for the same company for 18 years, so this is bittersweet. We are lucky enough to be finacialy secure for me to do this and we don't have to worry about who will be here with FIL and the kids. So, I am excited about hanging with the kids!

Here are some pics from our 4th parade. The kids had a great time being with Pepaw and DD got lots of people yelling that they loved her dress.

DS4 thought he wanted to ride in the big truck...for 5 minuts then he got in the helicopter with me.

This is the helicopter the kids and I rode in.

And we always attact cool people...look who stopped by!

Mall of America is getting an American girl store!!!!

I have loved everyones pictures from the AG stores and can't wait for dd to get a little older!!

Hey everyone! It's a girl! We now have three princesses!

The new baby arrived on July 2nd, 2008!

It was a very easy delivery. Four pushes and baby arrived! She entered the world at 12:38pm, just in time for lunch! She was 7 lb. 1 oz., so for me pretty small!

Her name is Lillian Kate and we are calling her Lilly. Her sisters are screwing up her name though and calling her Ella :confused3 ! I have no idea why. So at this rate, that will be her nickname!

She is an easy baby :cheer2: and sleeping about 4-5 hours at a time. I am just hoping that continues! I promise I'll post pictures in a day or two after I download them!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! Beautiful name! It is kind of cute the other girls keep messing up her name.

I am so happy to hear it was an easy delivery and she is a good sleeper!!!!!
I can't wait to see pictures!

Welcome to our newest baby Lilly!!!

Thanks for all of the tips on the ants, I'm willing to try just about anything until I can fill the cracks they're coming in through.

BIG GIVE ANNOUNCEMENT!
I NEED YOUR INPUT!
The MAW Big Give idea has gone over really big. I would love to continue this venture, but I need some input from those that plan to participate.

1. I have put together a short form that I will distribute to families that we would like to help. This form will include information about the trip, their favorite characters, any special plans as well as measurements of children and sizes for adults. I will distribute this form after I have verified that the family has a trip scheduled through MAW.

2. Many families have older children and adults travelling. AT WHAT AGE SHOULD WE CUT OFF CUSTOMS AND CONSIDER THE OLDER CHILDREN AS ADULTS? I know that many 10/11/12 year olds are not going to be interested in wearing customs. We can still make shirts for the older children for the group shirts, etc. What age should we set for this?

3. There have been questions about eligibility for a Big Give. Because there are so many families that are taking trips through MAW, I can only commit myself to organizing gives for families that have verified trips through MAW. Though I realize that many other families may be truly deserving, I am simply not able to handle additional gives at this time. If someone else would like to organize another give for another purpose, that is great.

4. For the ease of placing all of the information in one place and to alleviate the need to PM several groups of people and answer questions through PMs, I am going to keep up with all of the give information on the Disboutiquers board. I have set up a separate board just for big give information. I will update here regularly and link to all of the information.

I'll post the next family soon!

I have no valuable input but THANK YOU for organizing all of this. You are truly spreading some pixie dust and that is commendable.

I am so excited. I just bought some fabric online that I have been drooling over. My mother collects the smores figurines so this fabric is perfect for an outfit for DD.

Hi Everyone,

Just coming out of lurking for a moment...

Twob4Him: My dd is 8 and tells me she is too old for ruffles. Now, I don't think she is, but I try to respect her wishes and make clothes that don't have a lot of ruffles. I could still make them, but it'd be a waste of time because she would not wear them. My youngest will tell me she doesn't like them but will wear them occassionally.

As usual, I have enjoyed looking at all the outfits ya'll have been posting. I have especially enjoyed the Wall-E customs though. I wanted to make one, but didn't know what to do with the green fabric that is out there. I ended up making one out of regular fabrics. Anyway, here is what I came up with.... (Pic is posted with permission of the child's paents and I am distorting her face per parent's request.)

And the back

This is sooooo cut love it!
Whew! I just introduced myself and already I am way behind. I'm back on page 169!

Anyway, here (hopefully) is a picture of the Snow White dress I made my daughter. It came out a little low cut. And this isn't the best pic for the viewing of the dress, but whatever! :) I think it was a Simplicity pattern.

snowwhite.jpg
[/IMG]
I have that pattern and wondered about the neckline. Good to know how it comes out. Great job on the dress!!!!!

That's funny, I have been using my Green 100% organic all purpose cleaner (one that I LOVE) and it kills the ants too. I was trying to point out to my husband that not everything that will get rid of the ants will necessarily harm us, but no dice. It doesn't however keep them from coming back which is our current dilema. Thanks for the tip. If I hadn't tried the spray just out of desperation I wouldn't have thought of it.

...t.
Salt works too. Ants will not cross a line of salt. You could try pouring some into the cracks. P.S. As a former chemist tourned chemistry teacher I can tell you that there are chemical pesticides you can get that are not harmful to use, you just have to hunt for them!!!!!!! I know the dangers well so I am very careful what I use, and what is availible varies from area to area.

I have had one of those 6 bweek sprains. I did color guard for the marching band through college, and sprained and ankle on astroturf (nasty stuff!!!!) everytime I thought it was ok, it would flare up agian. Just be careful and take it slow. My mistake was pushing too hard too fast.

Love them all but Ariel is my favorite! They are beautiful!

Shannon, you are the best for organizing everything! I think all of your ideas sound great. It's a tough call on the kids cutoff ages. I'm thinking most kids 12 and up wouldn't want customs? 10 and 11 year olds sort of depend on the kid and the clothing item. Tee shirts are obviously great for any age. My DS9 and DD 10 will still wear applique tees. Actually DD10 would probably wear anything I made her.

Congratulations! Can't wait to see pictures! And, Ella is a GREAT nickname!;)

Well. I thought we had taken care of the ant problem and last night I moved a hamper in the corner of the room and found it FULL of ants. There is a crack in the wall (no doubt from the sinkhole) and the ants were filing in through it. This was at 12:00 at night at the same exact time that Lily pee'd on my dryclean only bedspread!!! UGH! I vacuumed up what I could of the ants then focused on my pee'd bed. I said I didn't know what to do w/ the laundry basket, I didn't want to move it outside but I didn't want to spread the ants to anywhere else in the house and I had just loaded the washer. He said, well they don't seem to be going anywhere but the laundry basket so just leave it until tomorrow, I'll take the day off and we'll figure it out.

...t.

We have a terrible time with ants in this area also. My sister had an exterminator, but said it was really a waste of money since they came back the next year. We had a cousin tell my Dad to use salt, they won't cross salt. My mother had salt all over the house from Dad and besides being a mess, it didn't work. You need to find out what kind of ants you have. We have sweet ants. Anyway, try Terro for the garden. It's in a cup sort of thing. I sit one outside the back door, and the kitchen window where we know they found a crack to come in. We have no more ant problem. Come fall, I just get rid of the packaging. It's really great stuff.

Whew! I just introduced myself and already I am way behind. I'm back on page 169!

All your outfits are darling. I checked out one of the new pattern books, and it looks like the princess costumes have been discontinued. :scared1:

I think the age thing might be tricky. Depending on the disability, they may be physically too hold, but not mentally. But I think customs are really for the smaller children.

You are doing such an amazing job!!

I'm not sure about the ages questions but maybe T-shirts would be more acceptable across a wider age range than customs.

I've been buying some patterns on :wizard: to give me a bigger selection in more sizes ready for the next round.

That is sooo amazing!!! I haven't been on in a while and just wanted to check to see if you had had your baby and it is the first thing I see (in a quote) on the top of the last page!! How fortuitous!! I am so happy for you and jealous as well. I am at 38 wks 5 days - so getting close! It's only now becoming slightly uncomfortable, but I have had a few "signs". Good luck to you and your family. Love the name too!! (and the nickname)

Jess

NEED SOME HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am making 2 pillowcases for 2 little cousins (they are sisters) on my DH's side. One is going to be 2 and the other will be 1 & they are having their b'day parties this weekend. What I need help with is trying to figure out how long to make the dresses. I don't want them to be too long or too short.

Can any of you ladies with little girls about this age tell me the measurement you would use for the length? I need to finish them tonight so I can put them in the mail tomorrow. THANKS!

It came out so cute!!! I love the ruffles! Lydia looks so beautiful in it.
Thank you!!!
I LOVE that fabric! the dress has the perfect twirl factor! I also LOVe that everyone coordinated!
Teresa, I'm so sorry your Grandma has been ill. I don't always get to read all of the posts so I'm either behind or I somehow manage to miss a page or something. Anyway, I'm glad she's on the mend now.
I like a nice 90inches of twirl factor for Lyddy's skirts!

Thankfully, Grandma is doing much better now!

Any advice on which I should do I am really torn.
I would just do the placket in the front, and maybe the collar.

Teresa and Heather So glad to hear grandma is doing better and home. I have been praying for her all week.
Thank you!
I just noticed my ticker at the bottome! I only have 2 months and 2 weeks! I have a lot of sewing to do!!!!! I am still working on minnie dot dress! UGHHH!!
Hey, did you see mine!!!??!!! Less than 300 days!!! :cool1:

LOL! My Ruffler and I had a disagreement yesterday :rotfl2: . . . I'm making DD some super-swishy pants (as she calls them), they're just easyfits with a ruffle cuff, but - the ruffle was a chore. I'm happy to report though, that I WON the arguement with the ruffler!!! :thumbsup2 I re-did the ruffle 4 times (on each cuff!!!) But it all worked out. Not sure if I'll ruffle today, my house work is neglectged.

I was wondering if anyone has a favourite camping spot in Western PA, or Michigan (not too far north) or even OH? The kids are missing their Dad like crazy (OK, me too!) and they want to go camping in the USA (DS says he NEEDS Berrry, Berry Kix cereal - we can't buy it in Canada) I thought I would book a weekend somewhere - it's so hard to make a decision by looking at a website . . . We have a tent trailer and would prefer to have an electric site, and a great place to swim! Oh, and shopping nearby would be great!!!

I'm off to drop the kids off at Daycamp, will be back after going to buy some thread (at the lousy fabric shop in town:()
We love Ft. Custer in Augusta, MI!!! (Yeah, I know Heather already told you, but I'm seconding that!) Our family goes there every year for a big extended family camping trip. It is lots of fun. There is a nice beach, biking, hiking and horseback riding trails (although you'd have to bring your own bike and horse). And, it's quite beautiful and nicely maintained. The camping sites are wooded, so it's not like you are in a big parking lot, but they have electricity hooked up to them. There is a Hobby Lobby and a Joann's in Battle Creek, which is not very far, as well as in Portage, which is just a bit further away. There is also a Field's fabric in Portage. Plus, Battle Creek and Portage have nice malls as well as the usual Walmarts and Kmarts.

And, as an added incentive, there are several wonderful Disers that live nearby! :thumbsup2

I love that dress, so twirly! I love how everyone was matching but not exactly the same.
.
Thanks Steph!

I love this dress! It turned out SO cute and Lydia did a fantastic job picking out the fabrics! That daisy fabric matches the border in Tessa's room!!
That's what that daisy fabric reminds me of! I think I got it for .50 a yard on clearance! Gotta love that Walmart clearance!

1.)I just started a dress for Tessa last night. I am now going to call it her "polly pocket" dress! :thumbsup2

2.)What is with those girls at the movie theater? I wouldn't be too offended, considering how most of the people in that town dress...

Let's just say there was a severe downturn in fashion after KMart closed.

3..)There's are my beautiful girls!! I told you already, but I LOOOOOVE Lydia's dress! I love the way the striped fabric goes with the "paradise" fabric. It's just beautiful! Arminda's skirt turned out VERY pretty! What a cute little friend she made, too! LOVE Corey's tied. VERY cool! He is such a good sport to match his sisters, and be happy doing it. Even David looks very dapper! Cool frog! :thumbsup2

4.)We love going to Fort Custer Recreation Area in Augusta, MI! It's a beautiful campground! There is a nice lake for swimming, but no pool. Here's a link to a little bit more info.

http://www.michigandnr.com/parksandtrails/Details.aspx?id=448&type=SPRK
1.)It sounds like it is going to be so cute Heather!
2.)This makes me laugh so hard!!! I read it to Corey and could barely get it out I was laughing so hard! He also started busting out laughing!
3.)Aww, thanks Heather!
4.)Yep, I agree! Brian is thinking of going there tomorrow.

Those outfits are wonderful, even the tie!!I really like the colors. (They would even be good for AK!) Your kids are precious.
Thank you so much!!!!

OUCH! I feel for you!!! I sprained my ankle when I was in 3rd grade, and it doesn't hurt too much anymore... but, the one I sprained when Corey was a baby, 16 years ago still bothers me....

BIG GIVE ANNOUNCEMENT!
I NEED YOUR INPUT!
The MAW Big Give idea has gone over really big. I would love to continue this venture, but I need some input from those that plan to participate.
I'll post the next family soon!
I don't know about the older children. I don't like the idea of setting a cut off. I think that we should go by a family by family basis, especially if they are siblings to the MAW child. I think if they are not siblings, we could set a specific cut off but, I don't know what that would be! For the siblings, I would like to make them things as long as they would like to wear them or if we have enough people volunteering.

Now, that wasn't much help at all, was it!

I would like to thank you though Shannon for getting this all organized!!!

NEED SOME HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!
THANKS!

did you use a pattern, does it tell you the approx measurements. I always use the gymboree size guide when in doubt. I think they have a dress length on there.

THANKS!

I would go on the shorter side if you can't figure out exact size...they could always wear them with shorts if need be.

Thank you!!!
