I thought I would share some pics from my recent beach trip. We had a great trip and there were so many great pics but I am just posting some of the custom photos. Here are the kids in their beach customs:

It is looking beautiful!

First off, let me say that all of you are sooo talented! I found this thread a couple of weeks ago, but normally I'm a lurker (as you can tell by my post count)! I've been a sewer since I was a teenager - cross-stitch, smocking, etc. But life got in the way and I haven't done as much lately as I would like to, but you guys have inspired me! I got Carla's bowling shirt pattern and made my DS4 a wall-e shirt, but I don't think I have enough posts yet to show you the picture. I'll probably be doing things for him and nieces and nephews, because my girls are now 13 and 9, and probably won't wear twirly skirts anymore! Thanks for being such a great group!

You know I'm a ruffle lover. But it would certainly be different is you did a stripwork back. And yes, easier to pack and wear.

Roseanna and Russ are so adorable. I'm sure you had a blast at the beach!!! Welcome back.

SAHM: Best of luck! Can't wait to meet the new little!

Good morning to the rest of you!

OMGosh, you people are amazing!!! I'm from the Wish Trippers Unite! thread, and I didn't even know about this thread until yesterday when I learned of what you are doing for Heather's kids!!! I'm so excited because my family will be at Give Kids the World Village for the first two days of Heather's trip, and I'm going to be looking to see those cute outfits on her kids in person!!! Kudos for what you are doing. You do beautiful work with your hands and your hearts!!! xoxo

I've not painted faces before, but there are lots of people here that do paint. I thought that I had also read that you can use Sharpie markers for details?

I have never painted before but have used sharpies when I was in a hurry once for a map, they ran so I probably wouldn't do it again, they are fine on the map but on a face I don't think they would look that great. I'll take a picture later and post.

Can you do them by hand possibly? I find that easiest or just use little stitches on the machine.

HEY! You're a longaberger fan! (I guess?) So am I! Though, my collectionis dwindling (I'm been packing up several to mail off this morning).
WELCOME to the thread!

Thanks for checking out the thread! Welcome!

Thanks for you input, ladies. I'd totally forgotten about the heat when thinking about ruffles or not. I'm definitely going with a simpler and lighter back. That will also allow me to do elastic across the back and make the back fuller so there will be more air circulation. :-)

Shannon, I started with an Ottobre pattern (Spring 07 issue) but I changed the back some. The pattern has flounces which weren't as full as I wanted plus they were stitched to the back rather than sewn into a seam. Also the pattern didn't include a ruffle around the whole bottom. I still need to tweak my measurements a bit so the next to the last ruffle in the back lines up with the bottom edge of the front without the ruffle. (Does that make sense?)

anyone???? If not idea about painting then how do you do small facial details on faces? I am so scared that I am going to mess this up and I already have so much time in it.

I was trying to do one by hand once.... spend weeks on it. The face just wasn't working so I tried a sharpie. The sharpie made a mess :scared1: I had to start all over!! DON'T use a sharpie!! Get some fabric pens, I am sure they sell them at fabric & craft stores!

I have seen some Wall E embroidery designs. If you need them, let me know and I can PM you the companies. I think I have seen 2 companies with them!

Everyone's outfits are so cute!! I need to figure out the multi quote thingy! :lmao:

Such a great job. I would be nervous about doing the faces too. That being said, that's why I stick to simple appliques because my machine isn't computerized so I have to do it by sight. I would get fabric paint from Michael's/AC Moore/Whatever your have locally.

Here's what I have done so far for my MAW Big Give contribution.

maw1.jpg

I was originally planning to use a variety of blue, cream and pink prints for ruffles in the back like I did for the Snow White dress I shared recently. However I got to thinking that the ruffles might add too much bulk so I was thinking it might be better for packing to do a simpler back, perhaps stripwork of a few prints with a ruffle at the bottom. That would also be easier to touch up with an iron if needed (although I don't touch an iron when I'm on vacation I won't assume others are the same LOL). What do you all think?

That is gorgeous! How do you do the eyes? Your applique's eyes always look so good!

I've been around since the first thread too! I couldn't find my first post but it was in september. I joined the DIS at the end of August. I found Jham first post - It was September 19th In case you wondering Jhammie. It was kinda fun looking waaay back to our humble beginnings. I can't believe how much older the kids are looking already!! And it was nice to see alot of familiar names and people who are still with us!!

THANK YOU!!! I was totally wondering and figured it was August or September but it would've taken me hours to figure it out!

Good afternoon all! I am not sure if any of you remember me...I am a "window shopper" mainly, but have posted a few times. I am so excited and had to share...I ordered my very own sewing machine today from Wally World and it should be here next week!

Hopefully I will have some creations to share soon! Everyone on here makes such beautiful things and you have all inspired me to sew for my girls. I will be getting some patterns from ycmt when I get home tonight and am on my home computer. I can't wait!:cheer2:

Oooh...is it computerized? I'm very jealous of people with nice new sewing machines that aren't from the 80s!!! ;)

I was inspired to begin sewing after seeing boutique Dis dresses on ebay......

I have been at it for about three weeks and I am HOOKED! I'll never know why it took 36 years to figure out sewing was such a fantastic thing to do!

:welcome: Sewing is only the half of it......I now come on here every night and see so many beautiful things that I have a mental to do list a mile long and then run out of time to go and actually sew!! :rotfl2:

This should beceom the official 'We love CarlaC's patterns website' !!!

I've only skimmed the last few pages as I've not been around much lately (serious case of man flu!!) and there are so many cute outfits. Sorry I missed out on this BIG GIVE but I'll keep my eyes open for the next one!

Loving with patchwork skirts. As soon as Hope is a bit bigger, I'm going to give one of these a try.

I've been naughty and bought some fabric ready for our trip in December. Its patchwork fabric so wasn't cheap (well to you guys - as long as the customs men don't see it, it is for me :) )

Its called smores

I've bought this and the co-ordingating fabric and plan on making the stripwork jumper.

Here is what I made for the kids this week with my new sewing machine.

It is supposed to have a button on the back but I haven't tried a buttonhole (ever) and I was afraid I would mess the outfit up.

I wish all patterns ran the same. I made this a size 3 (she wears a 5T or 4/5 in a shirt and it is too big in the top. If she isn't careful, it will be hanging off one shoulder. At least she will be able to wear it for a while, I'll just need to pick up some more of this fabric to keep in the stash so I can add some tiers to it as it gets shorter.
