Man, everyone's been so busy!!! Lots to catch up on! So, the kids have been sickly last week and early this week. Today was payday and I needed some retail therapy, so of course I went fabric shopping!

Here are my finds:

Disney first - the red Mickey I got at Hancock, the purple Tink and friends is from Walmart and the Pooh and friends (they're catching fireflies - sooo cute!) is also from WalMart. No clue what to make out of any of it, but I NEEDED it!
fabric2.jpg

Non-Disney - The polka dots and bright green floral are from a local quilt shop. Not a clue what to make with it. The monkey I got at JoAnn because Ella LOOOOOOVES monkeys and it reminded me of candice's too cute monkey shower curtain dress. So it will likely be a dress of some sort. The green paisley I just liked, again no clue what I'm going to do with it. The ivory floral was on clearance at Hancock and will likely make a dress to go with these pants I made, but am not sure I really like or not.
rufflepants.jpg

They were much cuter in my head! Don't you hate that!

Anyway, I should go catch up on all the posts I've missed!

Sally I love you petti! :worship:

Okay, so I've been hanging with a summer cold since last night, I've had chills and sweats off and on all night and I was trying to take it easy today...

Delaney asked me the beginning of the week to make her bear, Vegas, a new outfit for the Teddy Bear picnic they are having at camp tomorrow. I take her out, we pick fabric, I ask her if she wants me to make her something to match, she says no, she'll wear the bear shirt she already has, great one less thing to make right? You know where this is going, right?

I finish the bear's outfit and she says "Vegas wants me to match her." :::THUD::: :faint: Sure she does, perhaps we should have thought about that on Tuesday when we got the other fabric, no? :scratchin Oh wait, I did bring this up and you looked at me like I had 9 heads. :headache: Free preschooler anyone?! The water work start  and I finally agree to attempt to make her a matching top, I was using CarlaC's simply sweet.

So this is what we ended up with...

DSCN2864-1.jpg

They don't match exactly, I wasn't using the cheap $1 80% poly blend gingham on her dress because it is a pain to work with, the bear's dress was bad enough. She decided when I said it was the purple or nothing that she'd live being a little different.

I'm going to head off to bed, I've taken some medicine and am waiting to zonk out.

JHam, I got you PM, I'll write you in the morning. :thanks: Thanks for the info. RJ's writing his resume for that job right now. We'll see what happens, this company really needs someone like him or so they say.

Carla if you're out there reading I just want to say thanks for the great tips in your patterns, I will always use the turning of the straps tip from here on out, it's so much easier... :worship:

ok, I'm lost!

I have not been around much. I started a new job-not liking it so far. There is a 2nd big give?
:wizard: Hope it gets better!

OK! Maybe I lied. The waistband is not in the skirt yet. I got home much later than I anticipated, so it'll have to wait for tomorrow. But that's fine. But I thought I'd give you a sneak peak of the skirt that has given me such difficulty. This is the applique that finally did what I wanted it to do!

CIMG0719.jpg

SORRY! I did resize that pic. But it is still posting big.
Pluto looks awesome!!!

Here are a few things I made for Abby for her birthday (the watermelon outfit girlie).....
This first one Im worried the top will be too small - I made Carla's aline in a size 5 but the short length, and it looks tiny!!!! cross your fingers for me!!!
100_0942.jpg

Here are some bows to go with her watermelon outfit, and then a shirred walmart princess dress I had already given her...
100_0943.jpg

Here is the ariel shirred dress plus a bitty baby ariel pillowcase dress...
100_0944.jpg

Hannah Montana shorts and top (plus shorts for Bitty)
100_0945.jpg

And the final one - yes, she is in love with speed racer!!! she is getting a helmet from her parents, so I thought this would be fun to match!!!
100_0946.jpg

Hoping she likes them!!!

Wendy
She is going to LOVE them!!! EVERYTHING is so cute!!!! I think the Aline will be fine. Here's a size 5 I made. My DD must be about 45" tall. My top does look a bit longer than yours but it comes about 5 to 6 inches below her waist and your's doesn't look that much shorter than mine.

Great fabric finds! I love that Mickey red. I saw that Pooh at Walmart but didn't look too close as I already have 4 Pooh fabrics but now that I see it it is SO cute! I think your pants are so cute too!

Here is my finished Pettiskirt. I think I might attempt another one, now that I have a working ruffler. I used a stretch chiffon from a theatre art store that Lisazoe posted. The second is twirl factor. Color might look odd, she has on a brown skort underneath. I do want to get her a pair of petti pants to go underneath.

ry%3D320

This is the skirt I made for it. It's not finished yet. I'm thinking of putting a bandana print ruffle on it (that will co-ord with the top). The second isn't a very good shot of the fabric. It's mickey as a cowboy. We're going to the BarBQue.

ry%3D320

That is so cute and I love the multi colored hem. I bet that would be perfect with a Snow White themed set, too.

The owner of the boutique is requesting that the outfits that designers make for her site are "exclusive" to her site and you will not sell them on :wizard: or the other:wizard: or anywhere else. Fair enough. I don't currently sell on those places though I thought I might have to list some stuff on etsy to cover the cost of fabric if I don't get orders. NOW, she is calling them exclusive in their description and for the first time since I started in this endeavor I thought about clothing tags. I e-mailed her and asked if that meant she did not want MY labels in the clothing. I offered that if that was what she was getting at I could make my labels to say that the are exclusive to her site. It would be like a T-Beri Togs special edition, right? I think this is fair. I just got e-mail from her and she says she would rather NOT have any tags in the clothing they will be packaged w/ her hang tag and washing instruction.
Am I being petty and vain that I want my name on the clothing??? Should I just shut my mouth? You know me....I have a hard time knowing when to do that. Not to mention that I think it is pretty unprofessional to have NO tags whatsoever. She has tutu's listed from, i believe, an etsy seller and her name is listed in the description....I'm new and am really feeling my way out here, I have no clue what to expect so I have been walking on eggshells just to get my stuff in her boutique so I kinda don't wanna mess it up. I was nervous about the pieces, nervous about the prices and nervous that the pics weren't good enough.... I just need a little guidance from someone- ANYONE!!!!
HELP ME PLEASE!!!!

TIA
...t.

DO NOT SELL YOURSELF SHORT! Sorry, I don't mean to yell at you but don't let her dictate how your creations are labeled. I think having her own hangtag and washing instructions is fine but that would be in addition to your own "branding". Although she may not be trying to take advantage of you, it almost sounds like she wants to take credit for your work. It's one thing if she were designing the items, providing the patterns and fabric, etc. and you were just doing the actual manufacture but these are your designs and should have your name on them.

I can understand why she'd want the designs to be offered only on her site since it would mean she couldn't be easily underpriced by a competing boutique. However, if she has that restriction, you should make sure you are getting a bigger piece of the sale price in return for the right to exclusivity. Your costs per unit will go up if you are only able to sell them through her. I would also be sure this requirement applies to all sellers and not just selected ones especially if you are not getting a higher percent of the sale price.

Remember, SHE asked YOU to do this for her. Sure, it will hopefully be a profitable venture for you but it is a lot of work and you should get credit as well as money.

BTW - I'm too often still very unsure of my work and how it measures up. However, I've learned to not let that show through because some people will use it to their advantage.

Here's something I'm working on as I find time between other projects. It's taken longer than I liked to get to this point but now I just need to hem the bottom ruffle, add buttons and stitch the lining closed. Can you tell I'm still enjoying doing large scale appliqués? :lmao:

I also did these tees for fun to use up some I had on hand.

I love that Pooh and friends material. It is adorable. Unfortunately most of our WalMarts have stopped carrying material.

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 Awesome as usual! I love the ruffles in the back, and ALL the appliques are amazing. I love seeing things boys can wear too! THose tees can be unisex!

I bought the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse fabric book as a prepackaged kit at JoAnn's. They actually have 2 different ones but they are very simular. One is $12.99 and the other is $9.99 but I was able to use a coupon on it.

I checked all the local Joann's here in AZ and nothing. Is this a recent or old item. Maybe I can try another state, what state are you in? I'll make some more calls tomorrow. Thanks for your help.

Wow!
Those Snow White sundresses are absolutely adorable.
I'm so jealous of your talent!

Well I have sort of finished Madi's outfit.I love the top and I think it will be nice and cool for Disney. I just think the shorts need somthing.

I also finished Tyler's Bart shorts for universal.
scraps005.jpg

scraps008.jpg

I kind of finished Kyle's shirt. I still have to do the buttons but they terrify me so I may leave it as a shirt/jacket type thing.

I will say for a 1st time making a shirt like this I am impressed especially with ho wI lined up the patterns:woohoo: Not perfect but for a 1st shirt and a 1st time working with a lined/striped type material pattern. I am pretty happy.
IMG_4502.jpg

I do have a question incase I do add buttons. For some reason the button guide doesn't line up right I even tried the smaller size guise. Should I just wing it and do it on my own?
IMG_4503.jpg

Sorry the picture might be hard to see...

If I do add buttons I want to find Mickey buttons.

Buttons aren't so bad!!! You can do it!!! This is really cute!

I managed to get pictures and I managed to get the Hello Kitty 4th of July set done, I hadn't planned on doing it all in a day but once I got into it I just kept going. Today I have to make Vegas (Delaney's teddy bear) a new dress for the Teddy Bear Picnic at camp tomorrow. I have her dress cut out and I've started sewing but I've got to go and get Delaney in a few minutes.

Here's the Hello Kitty outfit. I can't believe I did the whole applique, it's not my favorite thing to do but I'm starting to get better...
DSCN2852-1.jpg
DSCN2854-1.jpg

Here's the Wall-e outfit. It didn't turn out a thing like I had wanted because the pillow panels were so big the skirt would be dragging on the floor I had to chop them down so far that I'm missing the contrast of the darker fabric around the panels. It works, she likes it, I just wish it was more like I had envisioned it.
DSCN2856-1.jpg

Can you tell I hate to hem? I swear bias tape is my favorite thing these days. Please pardon the chocolate cookie face. I can't believe I was actually able to take a picture in our apartment, it's nice that it's so clean now.

I'll be back on later, it's time to get small people. After Vegas' dress the only thing I have on my plate right now is the dress I need to start for the Lion King show.

These are just darling!!!! I love the Wall E outfit!

Heather and Teresa. Thanks for helping me procrastinate at work yet again with your trip reports!!! :surfweb: LOVE the pics! I'm so excited for dinner at 1900 Park Fare now!!!!
NO PROBLEM!!! (hey, i added a mini update if you want to waste anymore time! )
I've had an idea in my head for a bag to take on my next trip to the world.
When I heard about the Big Give I decided to give it a try and see how it turned out.

I cut out two bags, one for me and one for the BIG GIVE.

I really liked the way they looked so I decided to make a smaller version for Isabelle. Then my DD saw the bags so she said she wanted one. I started cutting out more Minnie Dot and made the last two.

So get ready for lots of Minnie Bags

For the Big Give
IMG_6471.jpg

[]
These bags are STUNNING!!!

I'd love to know who this is though I have a couple of ideas, anyway, this just reinforces what has already been said. Tag your items!!!! I don't recomment the tape labels that some use either. I know of a couple of instances where owners removed those tapes and put their own on. Don't take what you can get, get what you want!!!!

Lisa
Lisa, can you recommend a place to buy tags?
I UPDATED MY TRIP REPORT!!

Is that how you do it Heather and Teresa?

Yes, that is very good!
M5677.jpg

McCalls 5677. Isn't that cute! It's one of the new patterns.
I was THIS close to buying that pattern today for Foxy!

Here is my finished Pettiskirt. I think I might attempt another one, now that I have a working ruffler. I used a stretch chiffon from a theatre art store that Lisazoe posted. This is the skirt I made for it. It's not finished yet. I'm thinking of putting a bandana print ruffle on it (that will co-ord with the top). The second isn't a very good shot of the fabric. It's mickey as a cowboy. We're going to the BarBQue.

ry%3D320

And since everyone already did thier Dance Recitial. We just had ours last weekend. Not good shots. My camera is starting to bite the dust. Kirsta is second to left in the Cowboy outfit and on the far right in the fairy outfit.

ry%3D320

I was just at Walmart, they have a new Tink Fairie fabric. Of course I got a couple of yards. Lord knows what I'll do with it.

AND, I still have a slant shank ruffler if anyone needs one. I'd be glad to send it.
Amazing petti!!!! That is adorable!!! Love the dance pictures too!
I give up. Does anyone have a Singer 7422? I am looking at the manual and can't figure out what kind of shank I have.
I have this linked in the bookmarks, but here are what some of the different shanks look like:

We're thinking of taking DS for a birthday surprise to the Holiday Inn in Maumee (it has an indoor water park). We're driving from Toronto, and it's about a 4 hour drive, so we want it to be worth the drive. Anyone been here? Are there any great fabric stores in Toledo? Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks so much:)

Stephanie

When are you going to be in Toledo? We are going the weekend of the 4th.

ok, I'm lost!

I have not been around much. I started a new job-not liking it so far.
Sorry about the job Cindee!

And the final one - yes, she is in love with speed racer!!! she is getting a helmet from her parents, so I thought this would be fun to match!!!

Hoping she likes them!!!

Wendy
These are all great!, but,
I LOOOOVE the Speed Racer outfit!!! That is so cute!

very cute!!!! Your children are absolutely adorable!!!! Great job!

Too much to compliment tonight so I'll just give a quick run down.

GloriB-I bought that same red Mickey fabric when I saw it the other day at Hancock. I have no clue of what I'm going to do with it.

I love the bear dresses. Too cute

The applique tees and Snow White dresses are just too cute. I wish I could get up enough nerve to do a pieced together applique. Maybe someday.

The princess outfit is too cute. I would add a ruffle to the bottom of the shorts.

If I missed someone I'm sorry. My allergies are acting up and clouding my mind right now.

I'm working on about 4 outfits for someone right now. I'll post pics when I'm done.

All I did is go to bed last night! you ladies are so busy all the time!!!

HEY!
But that's fine. But I thought I'd give you a sneak peak of the skirt that has given me such difficulty. This is the applique that finally did what I wanted it to do!

Those pants are super cute!

Well, in between getting everything on my list done, I got an e-mail from one of the kids' friend who is sick asking if I would make her some American Girl doll clothes so basically I stopped everything so I get them done before we leave tomorrow.

I started with a circle skirt, which the math failed me (stupid pi) and will barely go over Megan's hips so they will not fit the friend. So I put that away and started on the doll clothes. I tried to copy Denise's guitar shirt and my strings are crooked but the kids could tell it was supposed to be a guitar so that's good. :thumbsup2

IMG_0589.jpg

IMG_0590.jpg

I decided she needed a colored pencil roll up; I thought it might be helpful for when she has to go to the clinic.

IMG_0591.jpg

Then I found a leg from Megan's jeans that fit the doll perfectly. They are stretchy so all I did was hem the top and add a ribbon. Then I found a piece I cut off from pjs I made for myself that were too long: a perfect tube to shir. The straps velcro in the back. This is her hippie outfit:

IMG_0593.jpg

And last I made a 4th of July outfit with scraps. I used CarlaC's pattern and the only problem I have is it is difficult to get on. I hope the little girl can get it off and on ok.

IMG_0594.jpg

So that's my version of the big give, a little give I guess. :rotfl2:

Now I just have to take the kids to camp, pack, run the doll clothes to the friend, take the dog to the vet, stop the mail and then we're ready to go! Whew!

I don't know if this helps but there is a much closer indoor waterpark in Frankenmuth Michigan. It is called the Bavarian Inn. If you have not been to Frankenmuth is a nice little town to visit and plenty to do for a weekend. Fudge factories, outlet malls!!!!!!!, horse draw carriages and bronners. Oh and my sweet tart eating bear!

Ooooh, this place looks so cute! The only negative to going here is that it's no where near a Hancocks! None of the US Fabric chains ship to Canada, and I NEED lobster fabric, and the cute palm tree fabric that I saw on this board, oh and Mickey fabric!!! DH and I have some deciding to do! Thanks so much for the info.:)

I love all the doll clothes! I've just started doing a few things for AbbyGrace's doll, and it's a lot of fun! One thing I figured out about the dresses with the simply sweet pattern - pull the dress on from the feet of the doll instead of trying to put it on ove it's head. I never could get it on over the head, but it went right on when I put it on from the feet. HTH.

When are you going to be in Toledo? We are going the weekend of the 4th.

Well, DS birthday is actually on the 4th of July, but DH has to travel for several weeks out west, and he's leaving on the 3rd. So we're planning a last minute trip June 29 - July 1st. (Canada Day is July 1st, DH has that off, and he's going to take off June 30 too!). Kind of a "I'm sorry I going away on your 6th b-day, and leaving Mummy all alone with two kids for days and days in the middle of the summer when we should all be camping" guilt -laden trip. :rotfl2:

Wish we could meet up though!!!

Is that Disney Princess ribbon??? How did I not know that existed??? Please tell me where you bought it - I'll add it to my list of must-buys while we're visiting the US!!!
