Could someone let me know what advantage I would have booking a package for our WDW vacation versus booking/purchasing everything separately. Do the packages actually save you money? I mean I am assuming that is what their purpose is, but this is our first trip and since the 2008 package rates aren't out yet, I have nothing to compare. Thanks so much.

Packages don't generally save you much money in the grand scheme of things.

It's more of a convenience factor that a big cost savings. There are some savings to be had in a package but not a ton. I'm thinking betwee 5 and 10$ a head .. usually in the tickets area... depending on length of stay.

WE are planning our first trip so I am not sure how long tickets are valid for after you purchase them...but I have been hearing a lot about the tikcet increases...do ou think I should by our park tickets now, we are going in April of 2008, before the price increase, versus waiting for a package to become available?

It really depends on the package you book. WE are doing the MYW plus dinning this coming September and we are saving money on food by using the package. We had to buy one day one park tickets also but we will just use the value of those toward our AP renewals.

We like to purchase the DDP with our room so we get the package. We just like to have our meals paid in advance so we don't have to worry about it. I don't know that it really saved us any money (although adding receipts up for meals really proved dining plan was worth it. We just probably wouldn't normally order appetizers and dessert with every meal.) but it was peace of mind that our food was paid for in advance.

'package" is simply a way to say tickets, room and maybe DDP

as opposed to room only.

some specials may require you to purchase a package deal and some specials are for room only, buy your tickets separately

there isn't necessary a savings buying a package unless it happens to be a special offer.

Tickets are valid for 14 days after the day of first use, unless you purchase the no expiration option.

So.. if you buy tickets TODAY and don't use them till April 3 of 2008, then the last day of validity will be April 17th, 2008. Again, assuming you don't get the no expire option. While purchasing the tickets now would beat any applicable price increase -- you have lost the use of, (and interest earning ability) of that money till next year. Something to think about.

I have a one day pass in the top drawer of my dresser that has never been used. That one day pass is good indefinitely under current ticket policy. In theory, I could use it to enter the Magic Kingdom in January of 2012.
