Hey all,
I know that the "offical" sweep clock does not start until the last participant crosses the start line, but I assumed that no one could still be on the course once 9:00 hits (park has to open after all). However, when I look at the results from last year I see people with times over 4:12. Can someone help me with this? Is there a place on the course that once you pass it the threat of being swept is over?

thanks!!
Anne

That time is from someone who started in an earlier coral, and therefore didn't have to keep the same 16 min/pace to complete the race that a runner in the last corral would have to. Epcot opens at 9, and there will probably still be runners in the park for about an hour after that. Usually once you get off of the main roads and into Epcot, the chance of getting swept is gone if you are keeping a reasonable pace. I think the pace requirements are in place to get the roads open again for traffic around the resort.

There's an overpass that starts around mile 11. That's when you are off the roads and going onto Epcot. If you make it there, and are still moving (not having to stop and rest or crawl...lol) I believe they will let you finish.

I was just going up to this overpass when the guys on bikes with the flags rode by me- I watched them carefully, thinking they were going to stop and wave the flags. They didn't. They continued over the pass, and then turned off into Epcot parking lot to who knows where- they were done.

I was one that started in B last year and ended up with a +4 hr time. I never saw sweepers or the balloon lady- just the warning guys on bikes going OFF the course. When we went through Epcot, there were people in the parks. They were being held back from crossing in front of us until a break in runners. I saw one of my BFFs and her family this way! lol They were trying to get to breakfast in Norway and had to wait for us to go by.

I believe I finished right around 10am. I was in Epcot by 9:15. (I think that's right)

If you're worried about being out of Epcot before the park opens, don't even worry about it. Everyone is running through there while the park is open. It's actually kind of annoying as a runner because you have guests trying to cross the running lane and as a guest you're trying to get around the park, but you have these runners you have to pass through...
